After doing homework, she put her cellphone in her pocket and walked down the street to her friend Steven's house. He was waiting on his front step, reading.
"Soccer practice was short today,"he said, looking at his watch.
"Yea, but it felt like forever."
He put his book in his room, and came back out.
They walked to the park, his hand in his pocket, Vivian playing with a loose string on her shirt. They were friends since they were born, and did almost everything together.
He wasn't tall, but he wasn't a midget. He had black hair and dark blue eyes, a color not many people had. He had tan skin, from going to the beach often, and a single freckle on his arm. Vivian often made fun of it, in a good way. Sometimes she used it to draw a smiley face with. When you weren't talking to him, he had a kind of somber expression, but it wasnt that he was sad, he was just thinking.
"When we go to the park, promise not to hurt yourself?"
Vivian smiled and said she would see what she could do.
"What has John and Martin been doing while I've been gone?"
Steven shrugged, noting nothing exciting has happened.
"They still do the same old stuff, pranking innocent people."
John and Martin were brothers, twins in fact, and were always up to no good.
"Last week, they clogged all the toliets in the park so that no one could use them."
Laughing, Vivian ran around the corner to the park that was now in view.
"Hey, wait up!", yelled Steven.
she went to the slide and crawled in it, hiding from him.
"hey, where are you!?"
She heard his footsteps coming closer, his sneakers crunching on the freshly laid mulch.
"BOO!"
She grabbed his leg and he went by, and he fell over.
"Hey, no fair!"
They heard others coming, and looking up, they saw John and Martin.
"Woah, cmon, keep it clean, this is a public area," said John.
Martin laughed, and rolling her eyes, Vivian dusted off her pants.
"Perv."
Martin held up a can of silly string.
"They'll never suspect this on their car," he snickered.
They all hid behind a tree, waiting for everyone to leave the parking lot.
When no one was around, the sprayed silly string all over everyone's car.
Trying not to laugh, they ran back to the swings, and waited for people to find it all over their cars.
A couple walking to their truck had a look of suprise when they found silly string hanging off the mirror and front windshield. The four ran into the slide, as not to be seen laughing. Being hyper at the moment, they pushed each other, trying to see who would ne the first to fall out the slide.
"Aw dude, you kneed me in the face!"
John held his eye while everyone was laughing.
"Oh my god, I think it's going to become a black eye."
Vivian pulled his hand away to look, and saw that it was swelling.
"Uh, i think it's time to go."
Everyone climbed out the slide, and after saying goodbye, went in diffrent
directions, John and Martin one way, Vivian and Steven another.
"He's gonna get teased in school, people are going to think he got beat up by a girl, since you hit him."
"It was an accident!", Vivian exclaimed.
"Sure it was", teased Steven.
"Did you the the look on those people's faces when they found silly string on their car?"
Steven nodded, laughing.
They got to his front yard, where Vivian lingered a bit before going home.
"I bet he makes up a lie, saying he got in a fight and won."
Steven put his hand on the door, saying he would see her later at school.
He smiled and closed the door behind him.
As Vivian walked down the street, kicking a rock down the sidewalk, she thought about the trouble her and her friends had gotten into before.
Like the time they all played manhunt in the woods behind her neighbors house, and the got lost, and how she seemed to be the only one with good enough eyesight to find the path in the dark. To her, the path was like the moon was shining on it, even though it was behind the clouds.
Before she fell asleep that night, she thought about some of the weird things that seemed to happen to her all the time.
She was the strongest in school, she could sense when people were watching her in a stalking way, and she was totally embarrassed of her fear of the dark.
By her bed was a nightlight, and if it ever turned off at night, she would scream.
Then her mother would yell at her for waking her up.
At keast she could heal quickly, Vivian thought, as she flexed her leg.
She couldn't wait to get on the track at school tomorrow.
