Athiesm is carried in varying degrees. We are not something to be grouped together in one big lump of stereotypes.
First, their is agnosticism. An agnostic person, generally speaking, either can't decide or doesn't care enough to decide whether or not to believe in a God(s). Then their is the angry athiest, those who give athiesm a bad name. Typically, people of this category are still angry and have much to learn about their own beliefs. We all hit this stage, sooner or later. This is the stage where one is still developing their beliefs and views, forming a true opinion and idea on the subject of religion. Then there is the typical athiest, the ones who know they don't believe in God(s) and know how to argue their stance. Keep in mind, that athiests cannot be lumped together and thus fall all over these fields. Do not judge one based upon the words of another.
Athiesm is not a lack of faith, or morality, or belief. It is the belief that there is no God(s), of any form or fashion. We can still carry faith in people, and we can still have morals. Generally, the athiest is an alright person until one discovers they don't believe in God(s). We are not a collective group trying to take over the world, we don't hate everyone and everything, and we are not all bad people. Take the time to get to know us, we are just like everybody else.
All I'm really saying, is that one shouldn't jump to conclusions about people based on one fact. Athiesm, like any kind of religion(or lack there of) is a broad term. We carry all kinds of different views, each one worth understanding.

She has a point...if I'd let my religion get in the way of our friendship...well I'd be missing a big piece of my life
