This past week, I traveled from Sunny California all the way down south towards the Volunteer State of Tennessee. As soon as I hit the ground in Nashville, I stepped out of the plane, and was bombarded with music, most of which was country or classic rock.
But did I come for the music? No, not at all. I traveled halfway across the United States to visit my best friend Meghan, whom I haven't seen in two years. I was both excited and nervous at the same time. Questions were running through my head. What are her parents like? What are we going to do? How will Meghan and I react to seeing each other after two years apart? Will I drive her crazy by the end of the week? Will she be driving me crazy? Is she as excited to see me as I am to see her? What sort of things will we talk about and discuss?
The trip overall was wonderful. Surprisingly, I felt more at home in Tennessee than I did at home in California. Her parents are wonderful people who love the Lord. The entire trip, they drove Meghan and I all over Tennessee and Alabama, and provided all my meals and activities. We had wonderful conversations, ranging from spiritual topics, to redneck pick-up lines (which I tested on my wonderful girlfriend Chelsea, and that was the closest she ever came to wanting me dead).

But my time with Meghan was the meat of my trip! I loved seeing her again after two years, and we are now even closer than what we once were before. We bonded and enjoyed every moment together. Her mellow personality along with my spontaneous character made for a very fun trip. Meghan wasn't used to having all these weird moments around others. But even though I pushed her a little bit out of her comfort zone, it was a growing experience for her, and she enjoyed it.
The fourth of July was one Meghan and I will never forget. July third, the day before, we traveled to Alabama to visit Meghan's grandparents. Talk about southern hospitality! From the moment I stepped into their home, I was treated as one of their family. I enjoyed a fabulous dinner filled with homemade southern cooking, including home-grown blueberries, fried chicken with white sauce, corn on the cob, peas, mashed potatoes, and sweet tea. That was the only point of the trip I was actually full!
Later that night, we attended a local minor league baseball game. I was texting my girlfriend, and Meghan was texting her boyfriend. I'm not quite sure how, but somewhere along that point, I got in trouble with her boyfriend, while she was in trouble with my girlfriend. It made for a wonderful night that we will never forget! Though the chaos ensued, Meghan and I both had fun.
The next day, on the fourth of July, we went whitewater rafting. We rafted down a 10-mile river, half of which Meghan and her family had never even done before either. I fell out of the boat into the icy-cold water. That was fun! Later that night, we went to the Adventure Science Museum, and watched the fireworks from the rooftop across the Nashville skyline, and afterward saw a laser show in the planetarium inside.
The rest of the week included activities such as the zoo, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, recording at the Ryman Auditorium, Laser Tag, sushi, movies, the Redneck Comedy Bus Tour, and fishing with their local friend Andy. The entire week was one that will never be forgotten!
