AGH! I'm buried under a mountain of clothes over here! My three closets are filled to capacity. Granted I live in an Airstream, but even at that, I can barely get into my bedroom and last time I went to my storage building, I found more clothes! This can mean only one thing: it's time to go shopping.
See last year I think it was, I figured out a system. For every new item I bought, I would get rid of two things. This made me think if I REALLY wanted the new thing and it helped clear out some of the old. Clothes that other people gave me did not fit into this equation, they were freebies! This worked really well, for a while...
Then I was given the Airstream equivalent of 5 closets worth of clothes. @_@ And I got even more clothes for my birthday and Christmas. 0_o Oy! I have too many clothes now! But I still feel like I have nothing to wear. Isn't that always the case?
So for a second time I'm going to turn to "10 Steps to Fashion Freedom" by Malcolm Levene and Kate Mayfield. This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone in a fashion rut. It doesn't tell you that orange is the new pink or that black is out, but rather helps you to figure out your own style through your own personality. It worked well for me before and I need a refresher as I start to tackle this mountain of clothes.
I've noticed one thing about my "buy one, get rid of two" thing that is definitely not working. I tend to easily trade two things for a dress for a party that I'm not going to or club clothes, but I'm not so ready to trade anything for work clothes. I spend 5 days a week at work and I rarely go out, so this just doesn't make sense. And so the equation changes slightly.
New work outfit = -2 items
Weekend outfit = -3 items
Party dress = -4 items
I think that will help me keep things in better perspective as I shop. Let's hope so. Although I feel I can easily get rid of four things for my "tango dress". Rrrrowr! No, I don't really tango, but I'll have the dress for when I learn, right? ^_^; Heheh...
I will say that this is the first time in a long time that pink has been so popular. I don't wear a lot of pink, but I think every girl needs a little pink in her wardrobe. Colour combo of this spring: pink and brown. Now that is not something you see together very often, but has a quirky kind of charm. I think it's time to go shopping. ^_^
I love pink and brown.
