The hidden Staircase
Jennifer Harden began eating her breakfast when the phone rang. She picked up the phone and said “Hello”. “Hi Jennifer this is Sarah, I wanted to tell you that at aunt Libby’s house there’s a stranger that keeps coming in her house at night and stealing things. So I need you to come solve the mystery.” “Thanks Sarah, I’ll meet you there tomorrow if my mom says yes.”Jennifer replied “Guess what, there’s a mystery of ghost or thief person in Sarah’s aunt’s house and she called me to solve it. Can I please go?” asked Jennifer “Fine but be careful.” Said her mother.
Jennifer quickly finished eating breakfast, packed her stuff, and called Sarah to tell her that she was coming tomorrow. After that she read her book from the library at her old college. Then she washed the dishes, mopped the floor and went to tell her dad the great news. Later that she spent the rest of the day watching detective stories on TV. After that she went to bed and dreamt about solving another mystery and how fun it will be. The next day at exactly eight o’ clock she drove in her red convertible to 1126 Forest Heights drive. She got out of the car and rang the doorbell at Aunt Beth’s House. Sarah opened the door with Aunt Beth looking who was out there. “Hi Sarah” said Jennifer. “Thanks for coming Jennifer” replied Sarah. Sarah told Jennifer more about the thief and his description. After that aunt Beth’s 20 year old daughter came to keep Aunt Beth busy while the girls tried to solve the mystery.
The two girls went up stairs and changed into shorts, while Aunt Beth was eating lunch with her younger daughter. Then Jennifer and Sarah went to check out the attic. Jennifer was about to give up when she felt an area of the wall that was about 3 inches deeper than the rest of the walls in the attic. Just then the bell rang. Jennifer and Sarah quickly went downstairs to see who was at the door.
A man wearing a short sleeve shirt and yoga pants approached them claiming that his name was Phil Anderson. Aunt Beth welcomed him, peering into his bag. She saw lots of files and papers. “Umm Mr. Anderson” Beth said. “Please call me Phil” he replied. “Do you know any one around this area?” He stayed quite for a moment. Then he said “May I have something to eat?” in my mind I was thinking that Phil Anderson was such a very rude man to begin with, plus he can just come into someone’s house and ask for food. Then Aunt Beth asked me and Sarah to give Mr. Anderson something to eat. So we went into the kitchen and prepared a bowl of spaghetti. Mr. Phil didn’t look very happy about what we gave him. The he started talking again. “Where were we again? Oh I know. Actually there’s this man about 45 years old that lives next to the Palmer's house. He said that his father had once fell down somewhere in the attic.” “Oh what’s his name?” asked Beth. “Dr. Baxter” he replied gobbling up mouth full of spaghetti.
“Wow this spaghetti is amazing is there some secret thing that you put in it?” “Well there is but, it’s a family secret.” Mr. Phil glanced at me and then said “you girls might want to do something else while we talk. “If aunt Beth stays we stay” We replied in an orderly manner. So Aunt Beth and Phil talked for about 30 minutes then Mr. Phil drove out of the driveway. After that we continued back to our search in the attic. Just then we smelled something unusual up the stairs.
We sneaked up silently to the attic. When we got to the attic we were scared to open the door so we looked through the crack in the door. Just then we saw a large creature’s shadow it looked like Bigfoot but we knew Bigfoot was just a myth. The ghost was in the room and saying something we couldn’t understand. So I decided that we should go downstairs and called the police to tell them what we saw. Just as I predicted, they didn’t believe us so we decided we were going to capture the ghost our selves but how? I went to the phone again and called my older sister Hannah. She didn’t believe me either so I told her to pack her clothes in a rolling bag and drive over to 1126 Forest Heights Drive.
She came 30 minutes later. When she got settled we showed her the ghost but by the e time we got to the attic the ghost wasn’t there anymore. Where did he go? Had he left a message? I searched around the room but I couldn’t find any thing, until Hannah whispered “ I found a note!” We all read the note. It said…………………………. and ran back down the stairs but the door to the attic closed right in our faces. “Leave now in 10 seconds or you shall die” said a voice. So we opened the e time we
We opened the door but the door closed right in our face. “LISTEN YOU WILL LEAVE THIS ROOM IN 10 SECONDS OR YOU WILL VANISH FOREVER! “ boomed a voice. So the door opened and we rushed down stairs about to tell Aunt Beth but we closed our mouths because if we told her she’d get freaked out and scared.
After that scene we ate lunch. Today lunch was hot dogs and chicken fillet. Later we ate chocolate ice-cream and cake for desert. No one said a single word not even a sound during lunch. After that Sarah’s cousin Melanie came over.[ Sarah likes to cal her Mel] we talked until Hannah left the room to read in the living room. While Sarah and Mel were talking I was busy thinking of ways to capture the ghost. Until Mel asked me where Hannah had gone. “She went in the living room to read her book” I yawned. After that we washed the dishes ,cleaned the kitchen and took naps.
When we heard a knock on the door at exactly 4:30. Sarah quickly got up , looked in the pip hole and saw a man with broad shoulders. He looked very suspicious was what Sarah had said after the man left. He was about 6’5 with hazel eyes and crooked teeth. Was what Sarah described the man, and he said his name was Jacob Wilson. “ Jacob Wilson, I’ve never heard of that name before.” I said. Then it was time to wake up Aunt Beth and set up dinner. Sarah woke up Aunt Beth while Hannah, Mel, and I fixed dinner. Today’s dinner was Pizza from Pizza Hut. After dinner we watched CSI while Hannah was taking notes on how to solve the ghost mystery. After that we all decided to go to bed. I really thought I needed to get some sleep. Hannah turned the lights out and we went into our rooms to get a good night’s sleep after a busy search in the attic.
The next morning I woke up at 7:30 and took a bath while Sarah and Hannah were getting dresses for another day of searching the attic. Hannah an Mel wore skirts with blouses while Sarah and I wore shorts and t shirts. Shortly after breakfast my mom called asking us how the ghost case was going. “Fine” Hannah said together with me. “Are you alright Jennifer” asked mom. “I’m fine I replied in a soft voice. “You seem sick” mom declared. “Mom I just have a sore throat it’s not that big of a deal” I replied in a harsh voice. “May I talk to Hannah, Jennifer” said mom. So I gave the phone to Hannah and they talk for about 5 minutes then mom went off line. “Mom said I should go to town and get you some medicine.” said Hannah in a sort of bossy manner. So Later that Afternoon Hannah went to town and came back with 20 pills of some sort of medicine that I was very sure that it would taste bad. Hannah made me take two pills after I ate lunch then at supper I also had to take it. I was so bored I thought I was going to starve! The next day our search began again. This time we found more clues. Mr. Jacob Wilson was in the ghost gang. We figured that out because his voice matched the voice that boomed in the attic a few days ago. Another clue was that old Mr. Phil Anderson was involved in this too. We found footprints next to a door shaped patch of the attic wall. So altogether we pushed against that area of the attic and BOOM! That portion of the wall flew open and we found that there was a secret passageway. Mel went first with a loud crash on the bottom of the staircase. We walked slowly down the stairs and helped Mel up to stand on her feet. She had very bad bruises. Luckily Hannah had a handkerchief and a spare band aid with her. We cleaned Mel carefully and put the band aid on her bruise. Then we heard people talking around that area! Just the we noticed that it was coming from a half opened door that the staircase let us too. So we peeked through the half opened door and there was a man badly hurt lying on the floor with other men surrounding and threatening him. Hannah quickly called the police and they came in about 10 minutes and arrested the men who were surrounding him and beating him up. Also we realized that the man who laid on the floor was Mr.Phil Anderson. He looked up at us. We never knew he could be in such danger. Guess what we found a paper lying on the floor next to Mr. Anderson. It looked a lot like a contract to me. But I knew best to stay out of that miserable scene. After that Mr. Anderson was taken to St. Mary's hospital and stayed there for about a week or so. Then he came out of the hospital to visit us. this time he only came to say thanks for the help! I really appreciate it! After that day Sarah drove Hannah and I back to our house while Mel stayed with Aunt beth.
