Upon entering his father's castle, Luca's blue eyes examined the new painting his father had ordered in from Switzerland. Being away for business reasons didn't make the relationship any easier between him and his father. Luca ran a slender hand through his jet black hair as he turned to meet his father, who was smiling almost unceasingly as he gestured towards the painting,
"Isn't it exquisite? Freshly painted only a month and a half ago!" he beamed, waving a hand at a servant for beverages. Luca snorted,
“Well it isn’t my idea of an investment or a work of art. But then again what would I know?" Luca stared into his father's eyes,
"Aren't you meant to still be in Europe? Why are you here months prior then the written date you sent in the letter? Did anything go wrong while you were there?"
The colour drained from his father's face, as he struggled to take a handkerchief from his pocket to dry his now sweaty forehead,
"No, no son. Nothing happened. just a few silly deals I shouldn’t have made...nothing that’s not fixable..." Luca frowned at his father's behaviour, before easing up and laughing,
"Don't be ridiculous! You look like you've made a deal with the devil!" Luca chuckled as his father glared straight at him in shock for a few seconds, as if he had just heard terrible news for the first time,
"..........I..." he breathed heavily, "No it wasn't a devil, but they sure were close... I must go son. The Duke has summoned me to a meal to discuss important business, we shall be back by supper. Make sure to tell Ruby to cook for one tonight..." without another word, he was gone. Again. Luca sighed and headed into the music room, looking at the painting's of his deceased mother which he highly resembled, before heading to the bookshelf to find something to read.
Luca was helping Ruby clean in one of the rooms when his father entered the home quickly as if worried someone had followed him home. As Luca walked to into the foyer, his father, panting heavily grabbed him,
"They found me! They're coming to get me! We have to leave! I have 2000 pounds upstairs in your mothers jewellery box, go collect it now! Tell Ruby and the others to pack everything they can! We leave in ten mintues.... I should have listened to your mother..." his father cried, taking out his locket to look at his wife. Luca's anger got the better of him,
"What is wrong with you?! Why would they kill you. You're a business man! You're not in the military! Surely you can talk this out...." Luca walked his father into the other room where he collected his swords for protection.
"No, you don't understand! They invested in an item that i was supposed to personally hand to them because they trusted me because of your mother. But the money was lost and the item was sold to someone else!"
"What? What do you mean you lost the money?" Luca started, "Oh dear lord....you did not ......gamble this family's money did you?!"
His father looked at the ground in shame while Luca yelled at him,
"Insufferable man! You truly deserve to be punished for this! Even the Duke cannot pull you out of this one!" as his father open his mouth to speak they were interrupted as the door blew open and five men walked inside,
"You!" one yelled as they ran towards them, weapon less. Luca wondered how they managed to blow up the door without any weapons.
"Pleeease Pierre, have mercy!" Luca's father begged, getting on his knees.
"We had a deal, Emmet! Your wife made a big mistake marrying you!"
"That’s exactly what I told him when I grew old enough," Luca joked, as the men glared at him,
"You look exactly like your mother. You know she was the best demon we knew....."
"Huh?" Luca blinked as his words, "Demon?" he felt sickly inside as if he had just eaten something rotten. One of the men stood forward and opened his mouth, his fangs sliding down. The other four followed suit,
"W-what?! Vampires?" Luca drew automatically but it was thrown off as one of the men threw him against the floor sinking his fangs into his neck. Luca couldn’t yell to his father and only watched as the men did the same to him. His world spiralled into darkness, his heart filled with hurt, he now wondered if his mother had ever made it to heaven........
