Between the years 1337 to 1453 there was a war (100 year war) between England and France. This war was mainly fought in France and poor countries. Where I bring you in this story is on the French shores of Cotes-d Armor in 1400. The English army has decided to invade France for a turning point in the war. Cynric Dodson leads the English, the French by Joan of Arc. The English with 10,000 men had found out when they got there that they were outnumbered by 1,000. After only two days the English are down tremendously. Now will Dodson overtake Joan or will this invasion be only a waste of men?
The summer night of September 12, 1400 was very warm and and humid for Dodson’s taste. The moon and stars were blood red form the fire and smoke. Looking at the empty battlefield in front of him, at the sea of arrows and blood, and the vessels of corpses. Suddenly he heard a trotting of feet behind him, drawing his sword only seeing his timid messenger.
‘General sir, the Captain would like to see you’ said the messenger.
‘ What does he want?’
‘Casualty report, sir’
‘Thank you and go to the mess hall’ said Cynric.
Cynric turned away and plodded along too quickly for the messenger to reply. The soil beneath his feat was soft and gave away beneath him. After about ten minutes he came up on the white command pavilion. As he came upon the pavilion he saw the guards block the way with spears, but he quickly waved them off. As he went inside he saw Captain Morris with five other nobles.
‘How many?’ Said Cynric
‘You sure? You won’t like it’ said Morris
‘Yes I’m sure, just tell me!’
‘5,000’
‘Sir, Sir!’ said Morris
It was too late. Cynric was already dashing towards the meadow where he went to think. He was running with such wrath and guilt, his vision was becoming blurred form his tears. Soon he was upon the meadow where he sat and thought in solitude. The meadow was dark and mysterious, full of vegetation and wildlife and the soil beneath him was soft and loose. Instead of meditating, he drew his sword and started hacking at a willow, cursing and screaming with frustration. He was filled with much wrath; he forgot to watch his footing. He tripped on a tree root and fell on a rock, knocking him unconscious.
When he awoke, he felt groggy accompanied with a headache. At that very moment he looked and saw a blazing white light. He had to squint at the mysterious light, and in the midst he saw a figure dressed in a robe. He got up, instantly drawing his sword, but his blade started to blaze into a fire. When he dropped his most loyal weapon, he pulled his quiver off of his back starting to fire, twang, twang, twang. Each projectile deflected. Soon he was overcame by fear and started to run away from the camp, so he wouldn’t bring this mysterious danger to his camp. As soon as he ran he fell and couldn’t move, so he curled himself into a ball.
‘Who are you?’ said the screaming, fear filled general.
‘Haha, I am the Master Misery’ said the low, gentle voice. ‘ I am the Great Evil; I am the one who men fear. I have come for a purpose not yet revealed to you. Even though you have not asked for anything, I have come to answer your needs, but not for free. I have many more other names. Satan, Devil, Lucifer and many more. Do not be alarmed I have not come to kill you.’
Satan then let himself be fully seen. He was not red, ugly, full of warts. He was not the typical devil you think he looks like, but was beautiful, pale, and free of blemishes. He was tall and clothed in white. He had no facial hair and eyes as clear as the sky. He was very materialistic with jewels and rings on every finger, a belt full of gold, and a staff of pure silver. Yes very beautiful indeed.
‘I ask for nothing’ said Cynric
‘Haha, just ask anything, what does your heart most desire?’
Cynric was hesitant with many thoughts going through his head, but at last ‘I want Joan of Arc to die in this battle!’
‘That’s what I thought, now sign here’ said Satan.
Satan handed him the contract. He carefully read all the agreements and finally said ‘You put reinforcements, I never said that’
‘Free of charge’ said Satan.
‘Wait you want…’
‘Your soul, yes I do, its only fair’ interrupted Satan.
‘Very well’ said Cynric signing the paper.
‘Done’ said Cynric
‘Done, next time you come to the meadow I will come for my collection’
‘Very well’ said Cynric.
At that very moment there was a blinding flash and Satan was gone. He ran back to the camp as fast as he could. When he got back to camp he saw Captain Morris talking to a messenger, then running towards him. ‘Yes Captain’ said Cynric.
‘General, more reinforcements’ said the Captain
‘I know’
‘But how?’ said the Captain
‘Gut feeling’ said Cynric.
‘Well there landing on the shore now’
‘Affirmative, oh and Captain, send all able-bodied men to battle and have the best one hundred men to capture Joan, but do not kill her!
‘Sir?’ said Morris.
Cynric left with no answer towards the shore. Captain Morris went and carried out the orders. Cynric was running with much joy now that battle was about won. At last he came to the shore and saw 6 war galleons docking at shore. He ran up to the nearest officer and asked who was in charge. They said General Watson and pointed to where he was. He eventually saw him getting reports from all the ships.
‘Watson!’ said Cynric
‘Ah, hello Dodson!’ said the General
‘How many?’
‘Three-thousand’
‘Three-thousand!’ said Cynric surprised.
‘Aye, what will you have us do?’
‘Get them all battle ready and fast and meet me on the battlefield.
‘Ok’ said Watson.
And with that Cynric was off to the battlefield. He reached the field and ran in all the blood and gore. He got to the line of breaking Frenchman, he leaped and stabbed the lead spearman. Soldier after soldier, death after death. He just decapitated axe-man, when he saw Watson’s men. ‘Victory, victory!’ he started screaming. He saw arrows pecking the ground. He looked at the top of the castle and saw a row of archers. ‘All archers point at top of the castle now!’ he screamed at his archers. One by one the French archers started to drop each falling into a pool of blood. ‘Watson get all of your men into the castle now!’ he ordered. Soon Watson’s men stormed the castle and soon there was a river of blood pouring out of the castle.
Cynric’s men took the rest of the dismantled French army. After stabbing an archer, he came upon an archer who was drowning in his own blood saying ‘Death…to…England…Viva La François!’ Cynric let the archer suffer. Soon the battle was over and he returned to his pavilion. Before he went into the pavilion his messenger told him that Joan was captured successfully. When he came in the saw Satan waiting there.
‘What are you doing here, why aren’t you at the meadow?’ asked Cynric
‘Coming for my payment early’ said Satan
Satan’s voice now changed. It was not like the one he heard in the forest. It was now dark and evil.
‘Oh but Joan is not dead! Yes do you here that “Dieu me dit de vous tuer tout ! Laissez-moi partir!” she is not dead, she is captured!’
‘Wait what! Oh no no! This can’t be. No one has ever cheated me out of a deal! You will pay for this Cynric Dodson!’
And with that Satan was defeated and the battle was over.
So the tale of Cynric Dodson and his victory at Cotes-d Armor went down in history as the greatest battle won. As for Joan of Arc things were not so great. She was tried for heresy and witchcraft and was burnt at the stake. Dodson went back to England where he got married and had a family of his own and the Dodson has flourished ever since. Now here ends the tale of Cynric Dodson.

- The introductory and concluding paragraphs seem unnecessary. There's nothing in them that couldn't have been worked more subtly into the actual narrative. The whole story seems more rushed, like something you had intended to flesh out later.

- Nice detail, I personally thought that satan would've been a little bit harder to trick, but it was still a good story. nice job.
