Have you ever stared death in the face and wondered what you did to deserve this? I have, many times. I’ve stared into the barrel of a gun without flinching; I’ve been on fire without being burned; I should have died months ago, though every time I have managed to get away. How? Well, that’s an easy enough question to answer. I have powers that the devil himself could only dream of having.
Though, why today is different I haven’t got the slightest idea. From the very moment I woke this morning, I knew that today was going to end in tragedy and apparently I was right.
This morning I went to school with a fake smile plastered on my face, surprisingly enough people bought it. I had people asking me if I was all right and I would reply with the simple statement, “Of course I am. Is there any reason why I should not?” I was quite surprised that none of my friends had caught onto what I had planned to do; they are usually able to read me as if I were an open book.
But here I am, staring death in the face for, what I hoped, would be the last time. The tips of my shoes had already passed the edge of the cliff but I was frightened to move any farther. Most people in my position would cry and run the other way, but not me. I was determined to jump, even if all my friends pleaded that I keep my life, I would still jump. I inhaled deeply, hearing my voice being called over and over again in the distance. I was forcing myself not to look back; else I might give up and run away. I cannot run away. Not this time. I thought. I heard footsteps picking up speed behind me; I shook my head as if to tell the person to leave me alone. In a moment of weakness, I turned around and saw Luc rushing toward me; he was the last person I expected to see running after me, as I was about to let the ocean take my life. I cannot help but let my lips twist into a demonic smile. My hand lifted from its place at my side and moved side to side, waving to Luc, telling him good-bye.
I moved a foot back and the ground disappeared. The wind began to whistle past my ears as I fell, it was an adrenaline rush the entire way down and for the first time in months I was happy. I closed my eyes and waited for the icy depths of the ocean to greet me, as my death grew nearer.
