Just Leave Me Alone Chapter 2
-
My cell phone vibrated showing that I had gotten a text message.
The text said:
TEXT MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM 555-3247
"Meet me at Baky's Diner at 2:00."
"Who is this?" I texted back, but I recieved no reply.
It was 1:45 and I decided to go to the diner, but I was heavily armed with pepper spray and my fists.
I started the engine of my old Jeep and I drove out of my neighborhood and toward the diner.
I arrived at 1:55 and I cut the engine.
I glanced around to see if anyone was walking my way. No one. I shrugged, opened my car door, and walked toward the diner. When I had gotten to the door of Baky's, I clenched my right fist and firmly grasped my pepper spray with my left.
The bell rang as I walked through the door and everyone had turned to look at me.
I nervously shifted to my other foot and walked to the front desk to get myself a table.
"Katie Payne?" A waitress with a kind face squeaked.
"Uh...Sure." I mumbled, still not sure what was going on here.
The waitress led me to a small booth that could barely fit two people.
What is going on here?
While I anxiously waited, I ordered a double four-pound chicken burger--Baky's specialty--even though no one really knows what it is. At least I wasn't afraid to eat.
A few minutes later, a different waitress came up and handed me my burger. This waitress had a stern face, and no smile.
I dug into the burger until I felt the seat next to me being sat on. I looked up, half of a double burger stuffed in my mouth and my eyes popped out of their sockets.
It was Mark. Mark had asked me out to lunch. I almost felt like puking up my burger.
"Dieting I see?" Mark joked. He's really not that funny.
I growled that best growl I could growl with half of a double burger in my mouth.
Mark chuckled and stared into my eyes with a deep intensity that was kind of creeping me out.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" He suddenly asked.
I began to cough and choke on my burger.
"WHAT?! We're enemies. Or did you get hit in the head with the football that you love oh so much?"Mark was seriously weirding me out now.
"Don't you know that I've liked you for such a long time?" Mark asked.
"Bye." I quickly said, throwing $20 on the table to pay for my burger.
I rushed out of the diner. I could feel people's eyes on my back. It felt like they were burning into my skin.
I flung my Jeep's door open and drove away as fast as I could.
I could think more clearly when I was home.
