• Life is funny life is grand
a laughing fox upon the window stands
    pointing joking prattling chortling
    insanity his life demands

"bring me a coin" he says with glee
"get it now boy bring it to me"
"I'll give you the key to get where you need"
"but first you must part with one copper gleam"
I brought him the coin "now give me the key"
I looked at the fox with a smile on my face
he passed me a key; gleaming silver and cased

"Bring me two coins" he stated with joy
"go get them now, get moving my boy"
"I'll give you the lock that goes to the key"
"hurry up boy you've somewhere to be"
I brought him two coins, to him I did state
"Now give me the lock, before it's too late"
he gave me the lock, shining gold uncased
A hole in the middle, for the key to be placed

"bring me three coins" he stated with mirth
"move quickly now, for all that you're worth"
"I'll give you the door, that the lock keeps closed"
"make haste now boy, so as you're supposed"
I brought him three coins, and told him this time
"I brought you your coins, now give me what's mine"

he showed me a door, with a hole at the right
"now insert the lock" he said delight
I put the lock in, it clicked into place
"now put in the key, there's no time to waste"
I put in the key, it fit like a glove
"go on now boy, give it a shove"

I opened the door and what should I find
but the outside of my house, not the place I had in mind
I stared at the fox with an angry expression
"what's the deal, this was not my impression"
the fox walked closer and grinned as he spoke
"I brought what I told you" and laughed at his joke
"you took these three things and brought me your money"
"I showed you a new world, one much more muddy"
he laughed and prattled and chortled with glee
I stood there dumbstruck, the fox swindled me
"let this be a lesson" he said with a snort
"you don't always get what you bargained for"
