• Kat walked to class like every other high school student would on an average Monday, then back home when classes were let out. Everyday was the same routine, go to school, and walk home. She made her way to her last class and looked over to her best friends, Kati and me. They were twins with the same dark blonde semi-curly hair, goldenly tanned skin, and deep blue eyes. The only difference between the two of them was that Kat didn’t wear glasses; she had contacts for everyday of the week.
    “Do you guys think that Mrs. Crawford has lost her mind yet?” Kat asked her friends. The trio was the worse popular girls in the freshmen class, and to make things worse, they had to plan the Junior-Senior Prom by themselves.
    “No, she’s just really weird. You think Kalona and Jasmine will help us with the prom?”Kati replied in her “I know almost everything” voice, which only had Kat and I laughing.
    “Ladies, do you need another reason for detention, or do you actually want to listen today?” Mrs. Crawford asked for the fifth time that day. Mrs. Crawford had a light complexion, was a little big in the hips. Okay, a lot big, and she had the worst acne in the whole school. Did I forget to mention that she was almost 50 years old by now?
    “No, Ma’am.” I replied with a small smile.
    Now, you may be wondering why I’m telling you this. You see my school was the worse death rated school in the country by a week before the prom, which was in two weeks from where my story had begun. Everything that could have possibly gone right had evidently passed my school for weeks until the final graduation of the 2008 seniors. Naturally the three of us had no knowledge of any senior except the soccer star, Jeremy Martinez.
    Jeremy Martinez was the boy every junior girl wanted and couldn’t ever have. Kat, Kati and I only knew him because he had asked Kat and Kati both out the same week he was dating a senior. Well, You could say that he got real mad when both of them told him”no” and walked away before he could say anything else. Now, this is where my story takes a turn for the worse.
    Kat was the one to walk home down dark alleys and be by her self, just for the fun of it. As she walked down the alley between Joe’s sandwich gallery and the local police department, she was followed. There was a lurking feeling that made her uneasy very quickly. She looked back and found no one following her, but when she started to walk again, the feeling would come back a little worse each time. Kat would look back constantly during the week and tell us everything that happened, until she finally saw what was following her down the alley. She looked back on the Thursday two weeks before prom and saw a show sticking out from the trash cans. She slowly walked over to it, picked up a stick, and stabbed at the shoe. Someone in a security guard uniform jumped up and started to hold his foot.
    “What’s the big idea? A police officer can’t sit down a get a little nap every once and a while?” he exclaimed, still holding his foot.
    “Why are you following me everyday to and from school?” Kat demanded, ignoring his question.
    “Because, I am an FBI officer. I had a report about a young girl who got jumped and kill because she was walking by herself to school.” He hesitantly replied, taking a grip on his weapon. “Just wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
    “Ok, then show me your badge of authority.” Kat almost ordered.
    “Why you’re a feisty one for someone whose just trying to keep you alive.” the office said while struggling to go through his bag for the badge. “Must have left it at the office, I should really stop doing that.”
    “Sure you do.” called Kat as she ran to the corner of the alley near the police station.
    The officer took out his gun and shot for her, missing her ear barely. He cursed before running after, aiming and firing as often as possible. As Kat stopped to catch her breath, she realized he couldn’t have any bullets left in the colt 95 he was carrying.
    “Nice try, take your best shot.” Kat called out before seeing him get out more bullets. “Great, more bullets.” She said to herself before turning to run once more. “If I can get to the police office, they could take him down.” She started off to the police office, only to make it half way and be shot in the leg, keeping her on the ground. The officer came up to her.
    “Now, You can go peacefully.” He told her before pulling the trigger one last time.
    Monday, 9:15 am.
    Today my teacher, didn’t talk at all, which might mean that something is wrong with her, or in the school or that today will be the greatest day so far.. The TV is about to come on to tell us what Mrs. Crawford might be hiding in the school’s news broadcast. She has stopped grading our tests now, looking up at the TV. I’ll tell you more when I find out.
    Riley
    I stopped writing long enough to catch the last bit of the news. A picture of a young brunette girl with brown eyes and light skin was on the screen. Kati and I looked at each other as we recognized the girl as our best friend and the volume came on.
    “A 15 year old girl was found today at the corner of W. Newberry and Fremont St. She was supposed to be walk to school from her home down the street when she was killed by two shots straight to the head at close range. The suspect was last scene near the school, disguised as a police officer.”
    The news echoed throughout the halls as the bell rang. Many students wondered the halls, gossiping about recent events as they made it slowly to their next class. Kati and I started toward our next class, one we would normally have with our best friend sitting right beside us. We were the last ones in the room, but it didn’t matter much since the intercom yelled at us to go to the school office before I could even start on my assignment.
    As we walked, Kati stopped me. “Don’t you think it is weird that she was killed on the very corner by the police station that leads to her home? The only one with an alley beside her house?” she asked as she looked to the ground. “I just don’t think that the police have no leads anywhere. It’s not right, so what if she was killed. The suspect was right there, someone had to have seen it.”
    “Let’s get to the office, maybe they have some information that they aren’t telling over the news.” I replied, dragging her to the office.

    “Ladies, I know that this has been a long day for you, but I need you to think about anything Kat might have said to you.” Principal Allen said with care, trying to be more of a friend then a principal, and trying to stay on our good side. Hey, we already had the school record for office trips.
    “Well, she said something about someone following her to school, no matter which way she went.” I replied as Kati nodded in agreement.
    “Why are you asking us this? Kati asked, her gaze going to the officers behind the principal. Did they really think that we would try something while we were already in the office? How bad did they think we were?
    “We wanted to talk to you because we wanted to make sure that she didn’t try to commit suicide. Lots of teenagers….”Mr. Allen got real quiet when he saw me stand up and start to yell.
    “She would never! I can’t believe you would ever think that she would do that. She is the most caring person I know and cares more about how her friends would feel then about her own problems. If there is anything you guys need to figure out is whether or not you have a witness to the killing and murder of our best friend. You should probably follow your almost brain-dead teachers here and barely even care how the students feel.” Okay, so maybe I was yelling, because when we were let out of the office, a bunch of students were cheering me on and I could even see a security dude cheering with them.
    “What are you cheering for? The fact that our best friend was killed? Or is it because Riley just yelled out the principal of Louis High?’ Kati asked the crowd before almost pushing me and my temper away from the other kids. We were in the office for so long that we didn’t even know what class we were supposed to be in.
    I told Kati that I had to calm down before being able to go inside a closed-door classroom and walked briskly down the hallway and out of her sight. She spent the next hour trying to find me to help me clam down. Seeing that she couldn’t find me after the bell rang three times, she stopped at a water fountain and looked at the posters of all the clubs that were going to be meeting that day. Along with the other posters was one explaining in more detail about Kat’s death. It had her picture, all of her information from the time she was born till the time of her death, and where she was going to be buried. As she looked at the poster through the glass, she could barely make out a second face in her picture; it was faded and looked almost like a ghost. Kati spun around to make sure it was only in the picture, she wasn’t going to take any chances. She started to look at the pictures again, only to hear footsteps behind her. When she spun around, no one was anywhere in the hallway.
    “They must have gone into the classroom.” She said to herself, seeing Mr. Johnson’s door closing.
    She started to look at the posters again and found the lunch menu among them.”Huh, spaghetti again.” She said to herself. The school’s worst food was spaghetti, and they served it at least three days in the week. As soon as her words passed her lips, she heard footsteps came back to her hypersensitive ears. Everyone said that she could hear a train a mile away if she wished, and she knew when someone was extremely close. The only difference was that this time, something changed. She glanced around the abandoned hallway and saw something like a military boot sitting beside the Pepsi-Cola machine, acting like she was getting a drink, she saw the same security guard that had joined the crowd to cheer Riley on.
    “Hey, shouldn’t you be working?” she asked the guard as she pushed her dollar in bit by bit.
    “I could ask you the same thing.” The man pulled out his reply slowly as he slowly stood up.
    As Kati went to get her drink, she heard a gun being pulled out of it’s case and raised up. “Run!” her instincts told her, but she couldn’t move, and her drink was caught in the machine. She knelt down to pull it out, but within all of the commotion from her drink, she couldn’t hear the trigger. Kati felt a rock hit her head, and fell to the ground. The school had vanished from her eyes and a white glare came to her slowly engulfing her body until she was floating.
    When the bell rang rang, I started toward the vending machines for a quick drink. As I turned the corner, I could see a security guard standing in front of another person. As the girl got down to get her drink from the machine, the guard pulled out his weapon. I walked down the wide hallway and stopped at the posts to try to warn her. The girl pulled on her dirnk and wouldn’t look at me for my warning. As seconds seem to grow slowly by, I recongnised her. It was to late though, the security guard pulled the trigger. *BANG* went the gun as I ran over to Kati.
    “Kati!” I yelled as my arms caught her head while she fell to the stone hard ground.
    As the classrooms emptied by the shriek of the teacher’s voices, I refused to move. I sat there covered in Kati’s blood, ignoring everyone’s attempt to get me away from her.
    After a while, I was forced up off the floor and taken to the office to clean off the blood. Kati’s blood was cleaned up and her body was moved for and autopsy. A few of the kids wouldn’t leave their classes in fear of being shot.
    ~~~~~~ THE NEXT DAY ~~~~~~
    The news sounded once more over the school. “Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a problem. There has been reported that another 15 year old girl was shot by a security guard. She was inside the Lewis school hallway when, as witnesses say, a security guard pulled out his weapon and shot her. The police are saying that this is the worst case of serial killers since the attack in 2002.” The report echoed throughout the quiet abandoned hallways. I looked around, with both of my best friends gone, I had nothing to do.
    “Now, children, the school is no longer letting any security guards inside. It is a trial to stop these attacks.” said the intercom. “Everyone is to stay in their classes until the end of school.”
    “Mrs. Cones. Does that mean that we can’t have lunch?” asked a girl in the back of the class.
    “No, they will be bringing lunches to us.” Mrs. Cones answered.
    “Mrs. Cones?” asked a boy.
    “WHAT?” Mrs. Cones replied a little aggravated.
    “Never mind.” he said, sinking back into his chair.
    The bell rang, but no one moved. Teachers walked to other classes, children looked out the windows, everything was quiet. I stood from my chair and walked to the door. When no one wa watching, I stepped into the hallway to grab a drink. I looked up from my drink to the glass info board. I noticed that Kat and Kati’s death notices on the board and a small reflection of something in the glass.
    I ignored it for a while, but the image started to get bigger and clearer. I looked around to see no one around me anywhere.
    “My big imagination.” I told myself before seeing someone come around a close corner. I jumped at the sight of a security guard, a memory sent me back to Kati’s death. I turned around and walked toward one of the classes, only to find every door locked. I spun around to find the guard behind me.
    “Teacher’s reminder: You are not to open any doors or windows until the bell rings again.” Rang the intercom above my head.
    ‘Dang It!’ I thought as I started to run from the guard. ‘Next bell is in thirty minutes, if I can only hold him off for that long…’ my brain began to buzz with different possibilities, including acting like I liked the guard as I came close to a corner. A click came from behind me, which caused me to go into a sprint. He fired, only to scratch my shoulder. The bullet continued on and hit the janitor’s door.
    My spirit’s brightened at the thought of the janitor opening his door to help, but he either wasn’t there, or didn’t hear the bullet cause the door stayed closed. I turned to the corner and ran into a dead end. I spun around to face my attacker, they seemed like a regular kid. As I took a step closer, the guard jumped a little.
    “Jeremy?” I asked. “Is that you Jeremy Martinez?”
    The guard looked around the hallway quickly as if he recognized the name. “no. Not me.” He said even quicker.
    “Ok, but I still think that’s you.” I replied with a small laugh, eyeing the security camera in the corner.
    He staired at me, holding the gun strainght at my head. “You don’t think I’ve forgotten about the camera, do you?” he said with a laugh after a while.
    “Nope.” I replied. “I forgot about it.” I looked back at the camera behind me.
    “You stupid girl. No wonder your friend was stupid.” He yelled, firing the gun anywhere. The bullet hit the poster of Kat’s death through the glass, almost as if he ment her.
    “Nice control.” I said with a little humor. ‘Ten minutes.’ I thought looking at the clock above Mrs. Clothier’s classroom door. ‘Stay alive that long.’
    “Your trying to distract me!” he yelled shooting my toe. “That’s your only warning.”
    I stepped back a little, noticing him relax a little. ‘He’s not comfortable with close contact.’ I thought. ‘less then a minute.’
    He looked around, then shot at me. The bullet hit my chest, and I fell to the ground just as the bell rang. I blanked out after hearing a teacher screaming.
    ~~~~~~ THE NEXT DAY ~~~~~~
    “Students of Lewis schools: Be happy to know that the serial killer has been caught. A special thanks to Miss. Riley Dangerfield for her help in finding him. She has been injured, but is the first student to survive this attack, even though she is currently in surgery.” the news sounded to the school and the radio at the hospital
