Megan felt ridiculously dressed. She was going to meet the rest of Jason's official band. She'd only met one or two of the members during her stay at the music function last summer. She had debated on what to wear and decided that now was the best time to impress them all. She picked out a mini skirt of light denim with white lace ruffles at the bottom. She picked out a dark blue tank top that accentuated her curves, and a pair of black heels. She pulled her long, brunette hair back into a high ponytail, accentuating the rich color with a blue headband that matched her shirt. Quickly, she slipped in a pair of large black hoop earrings.
Megan assessed her look in her floor length mirror. Spinning around on her heels, she thought she looked absolutely amazing. "Let's go make an impression." she laughed quietly to herself. She hated to admit it, but she was extremely excited about the day. She knew that things were going to go well, but she was just slightly nervous. "What if they don't like me?" she thought to herself as she got into her silver Mercedes. Her daddy had bought it for her when she turned sixteen, just a little over two months ago. You could say she was spoiled.
Of course, he wasn't her real daddy. Her parents had died in a car accident when she was just three. The man she called her daddy was actually a friend of the family who had always thought she was the most beautiful thing in the world. He adopted her after her parents died and took her to live with him. He was an orthopedic surgeon, well known for his great work. He had never married, so Megan was his only child. He spoiled her endlessly, giving her any and everything she wanted. She wanted a new car? Fine. She got it. She wanted diamonds? She got them. Yet, unlike many spoiled girls, she remained kind and sweet.
As Megan pulled out of the driveway, she turned on her Ipod that was connected to the stereo. She quickly scrolled through the songs, looking for her favorite. As she reached the main road, Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" started playing. Megan couldn't help the smile that formed and sang along with Taylor Swift. Even the threat of rain couldn't dampen her spirits.
The band was meeting in Sinclair, because Avery was just too small to find a good spot for a band meeting. As Megan took the Sinclair exit from the interstate, she grabbed her cell phone. She dialed Jason's number. "Hello?"
"Jason, where am I supposed to go after I get off the exit? I forgot already." Megan laughed nervously.
"Take a left at the red light and go straight until you get into town. You'll want to go down to 22nd Street and take a right. It's the fourth building from there. You can't miss it. I'll be waiting outside for you." Jason said, being patient with her about the directions and repeating things when necessary. Megan thanked him and hung up so she could concentrated on where she needed to turn. Finally she found it.
Megan could see Jason in the distance, standing in front of a big brick building. There were five other cars sitting in the parking lot, presumably the other band members'. Megan parked beside Jason's Lexus and got out. A couple of the band members were standing around outside along with Jason, and she felt their stares as she got out of the car. One of them let out a low whistle. Megan blushed crimson and looked down at her feet as she walked.
"Ok, now that you're here we can get started." Jason said when they had all walked inside the building. The entire downstairs had been transformed into one huge room, band equipment scattered everywhere. Guitars, microphones, lights, stereos, the drum set, the piano, everything you would need was right there. Megan was shocked. Jason noticed and laughed at her. "Megan, you can't be shocked at the sight of band instruments. What did you think we played on? Air?" he laughed again.
"No, I just thought this was a meeting though. Not that you all were practicing." She replied trying to regain her dignity.
"Oh. We're having a meeting today. We've just been practicing the last day or so. Needed to get some playing time in. Figured we'd do a quick concert next week or something for a deserving high school. Lots of places are having proms right around now." Jason explained.
"Oh. Well, my school is having theirs two weeks from now. You could always come play there. They'd all love it. I'm working on the prom committee so I could get it cleared by everyone else." Megan told him, getting even more excited. She was a junior this year, having skipped sophomore year, and she wanted this to be the best prom ever. She knew this would make everyone want to come and it would be a great success. And maybe she could ask Jason to go with her....
"That sounds great. You do that. But you're not allowed to participate in band activities until recording starts for the new cd. So you're gonna have to sit out on the playing at your prom." Jason said, a bemused smile on his lips.
"That's ok with me. I'd prefer to actually enjoy my prom. But I don't have anyone to go with." Megan quickly looked down and waited to see if he took the bait.
"You don't? Well, honey, I'll go with you. Make every other girl jealous. You'll have the best date out of anyone. I'm assuming you've already got a dress and everything? I'll need to know what color it is so I can get a suit to match." Jason said, sounding surprised when she said she didn't have anyone to go with.
Megan smiled in triumph. "I don't have a dress yet. I'm going this week to get one. I'll let you know what color I get."
Just then, everyone seemed to be getting annoyed that the meeting was being held up. So Jason led Megan upstairs to what looked to be living quarters. Everyone sat around the huge round table in the kitchen. Then they all got down to business.
