• The Girl:

( still in first person from her point of view )

"I-I-I thought you were in rehab!" I screamed.
"REHAB?" Mason's voice thundered. "Who the hell told you I was in rehab ?"
    "Jake!"
    "Of course he would."
    "Well, where were you!"
"I was in YDC! I got arrested!"
    "OH! Like that's any better!"
"I didn't get arrested for MURDER, just running away! Big deal!"
"Big deal? BIG DEAL! Yes, it is a BIG deal."
    "Ugh, Whatever."
    "Fine."
    "Fine."
"Are you even supposed to use the phone?"
"Yes. Are you supposed to be on the phone while at homecoming? Isn't that a bit rude? Won't Prince Charming be a little offended?"

I stood there silence, and Chelsea's facial expression mimicked mine for she had heard just has clearly as I had. He knew. Oh, Mason knew. But he wasn't going to play the "I'm hurt" card; oh no, he was going to use the "WHATEVER" card.

    "Well, Cinderella?" Mason said mockingly.
"Don't call me that." I snapped out him.
"Now, don't get all snippy with me. I understand. It's fine. You have Caleb. I have Brittany. Okay? Okay."
"O-o-kay. I...have to go." I choked out while holding back every tear.
    "Taylor, I'm sorry.. I-"
    "Bye."

"Uh, Tay, you might want to compose yourself soon. You don't want Caleb getting ideas." Chelsea warned with a sympathetic look.
"Right, right." I mumbled in between sniffles.

Oh what a mess I was in.

I simply colored on my menu with some crayons I had found while the others laughed. What a fool I had been. Mason was never in rehab. He did come back. But what was I supposed to do? He and I would never work. I was a shy little goody-too-shoes; he was an outgoing rebel. We were as different as night was from day. The chance of us ever being truly in love weren't very high. It was just an infatuation. He piqued my interest and I piqued his. But nothing was to come form it. Fate had already gave us our cards to play with; Mason and I weren't on each others. Infatuation, infatuation, infatuation, what a silly infatuation.

"Taylor?" Caleb inquired as he gently took my hand.
    "Huh? What?" I simply said.
"You just seem out of it."
    "Oh...just a long night."
"I know I ruined it for you." Hah, you don't know the half of it. .
"Nah, it's not ruined. I had a great time."
"But you were so excited! I didn't even dance with you."
    "I'll live."
    "Really?"
    "Really."
"Well, let's head to the car. Chels and Nick already are there waiting."
    "Oh! I didn't even notice..."
"Yeah...Taylor, I don't think I told you how beautiful you look tonight. Really, you're breath taking."
    "Aw, Caleb. Thank you."

And with that he kissed me. No fireworks. No tiptoes. No wanting more. Just a simple kiss that didn't even touch my expectations.

This isn't what love is. This isn't love at all.

Caleb and I walked hand in hand to the car. I silently prayed he'd ask me to be his girlfriend. Maybe that would spark love. Maybe I could learn to forget Mason.

After all, Mason made it clear that he wanted to forget me.

    The Boy:

"Sh*t," Mason whispered, "that didn't happen like any way I planned it. I hurt her. I didn't want to hurt her!"

Mason kept dialing her number until his fingers went numb. But no answer. She had turned off her phone.

"I'll wait till she gets home. I'll just sneak the phone from Mom and have Jake tell me when she's home. I've gotta talked to her. I've missed her so much."

Mason did just as he said he would. He quickly called Jake and told him to call once Taylor got home (Jake had been texting Taylor through out the night); then, he would wait till his mom fell asleep to get the phone.

( shifts into first person )

I waited and waited for Jake to hurry up and call. How long could Taylor stay out with Caleb? I know for a fact that her daddy wouldn't let her stay out past midnight, right? AH! Who knows.

The seconds turned into minutes, the minutes turned into hours, and the hours just fricking kept going. I had come to the conclusion that I was already becoming half mad. I watched the Austin Powers movies and anything else that was lying around; I listened to Hollywood Undead and other bands. I was doing anything to pass the time. But my mind had other plans; it kept thinking " Taylor & Caleb; Taylor & Caleb; Taylor & Caleb ."

"Arrrrrgh!" I groaned as I threw myself onto the bed. I picked up the phone and called Brittany.

She wasn't much to talk to. It was like talking to a blonde-brick wall. But hey, it passed the time, and she was cute...until she informed me she only liked me as a friend .

Well as if my night couldn't get any worse! I took out a pack of cigarettes and began to smoke. I've been smoking since freshmen year (I'm a junior now)...it's just I have no reason to stop. Yeah, I know it's bad for me. But it helps.

    Riiiing.

I grabbed the phone before it woke my mom up.

"She's home." Jake groaned. (he sounded tired)
    "Alright. Thanks, dude."
    "No prob. Later."

I dialed her number one final time. If she didn't pick up, I was giving up. It only rang once before I heard her tired voice.
    "Hello?" She yawned.
    "Hey, bibbityboo."
"Aw, hey, pup-pup. I've missed you."

This was not the Taylor that I had talked to earlier. She sounded totally mellow and calm. As if, she had planned to talk to me.

"Aw, I've missed you too, baby. I never realized how much I liked talking to you, until I lost you."
"We were supposed to go trick-or-treating..."
"I know, I know. I am sorry, Taylor. I am."
    "It's okay."

I heard her get in her bed; the blankets kept ruffling against the phone as she buried herself within the covers. Oh, how I wished I could have been right there by her side. We talked and talked about anything and everything. By the time I even glanced at the clock, it was 2 AM. We had started talking at 12 AM. I could her soft breaths through the phone as she was falling asleep.

"Taylorrr, you're falling asleep." I sang.
"No...I'm...not." she said barely above a whisper.
    "Haha...I love you."
    "I love you too."
    "Really now?"
    "More than you know."
"Actions speak louder than words, Tay..."
"I'm sorry...I fell for his hair."

I began laughing at how cute she sounded. But I knew she did have feelings for Caleb, and I was not going to interfere. I was going to let her feelings sort themselves out. I wasn't going to make her feel bad; I couldn't do that, I still love her.
