• Once there was a beautiful woman, and all of the men, even some of the animals, favored her. But she refused to have any of them.

There was an owl, a skunk, and a beaver who wanted to win the woman. "Alright," the owl said. "I will go see if she will have me." So he went and asked the woman if she would have him.

"No!" She cried. "You are ugly. Your eyes are too big." So the owl went back, and said that he had failed to win the woman. So the skunk went next to try and win the lady.

"No!" She repeated. "You are ugly, and you stink."

So the skunk went back and repeated what the woman had said. The beaver went next to try and win the woman.

"No!" She said again. "You are ugly. You have huge teeth." So the beaver went back, and said that he had had no luck.

The next day, the woman was walking across a log that was stretched across a river. The log broke, and she fell in. She could not swim, so she cried out.

"Come and scoop me out with your claws, owl! I like you!"

"No," the owl said, shaking his head. "I am ugly, and my eyes are too big."

So she cried out again. "Skunk, help me! I like you!"

"I am ugly, and I stink," said the skunk. So the woman cried out, "Beaver! Help me! I like you!"

"No," said the beaver. "I am ugly, and my teeth are too big."

So the woman floated down the river, and died. And so, to this day, is told the story of the beautiful woman filled with pride.
