• Ch. 1 the Encounter!

Hello, my name is Amari. I am a 14-year-old school girl. Here is what I look like:

Aren’t I cute? ^-^ Anyways, things in my life were going great until I met him. I’m not saying he’s a bad guy; he just distracts me from the important things in life, like my homework, for example. Then he told me the biggest secret of his life & trusts that I won’t tell a soul. Kind of hard to do with this little secret, but I gave him my word. Anyways, here’s the story of how we met & how my life changed.

I stared blankly at the clock, not listening to my Sensei at all. School had started about 25 minutes ago, and my first class was almost over. I sighed and glanced around the room. Almost everyone was half asleep still. I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep, until a huge smack hit my desk.
My eyes shot open and I sat up in my chair, almost falling back. In front of me was my Sensei, Horiaki.
“If you’re tired, you can go sleep in the office,” he told me. “I will not allow sleeping in my class, Miss Amari.” He started talking about our homework as he turned and walked away from my desk.
I slumped down into my chair and tried to listen to his words. All I heard was which numbers we have to do. I closed my eyes again, ignoring his warning the first time I did this.
    “Miss Amari!”
I opened them quickly and stared at him. He was across the room. His mouth opened, about to tell me to go to the office, but luckily the bell rang. Everyone put their stuff away and left. I grabbed my things and followed the crowd out the door.
As I walked to my next class, my friend Kazuki, walked with me. His class was near mine. “I heard Sensei-Horiaki yelling at you. Good thing the bell rang before he could do anything bad. Did you not get any sleep last night or what?”
I smiled at him. “No, I had enough sleep; I just couldn’t focus on the lesson.”
“Why couldn’t you focus? You do so well in math,” he asked.
I shrugged. “Not sure. I guess other things were on my mind.”
We stopped near a door reading History. It was my next class. “Try to focus in this class, ok?” he asked me.
I nodded. “I’ll try.” He walked away and turned the corner. I stepped inside and found that there was no one in there but my Sensei. “Wow, am I early, or did I miss something?”
My Sensei, Karamu, smiled at me from her desk. “Hello Amari-chan. You’re the first one in class. We still have another four minutes until class starts. You can take a seat and wait, or you can go use the restroom.”
I felt stupid for getting to class early. I mean, who does that anymore? I took my seat in the back row and sat my stuff on the desk. “I’ll wait.”
She nodded and went back to reading a book. I tried not to make a sound that would disturb her. I looked around the room, counting the desks. (Like there was anything else to do at the moment.) I was confused at the number of desks that were in the room, 27. I recounted but got the same number. “Sensei, why is there an extra desk in here?”
She looked up from her book. “We got a new student in this class.”
“Oh. Who is it?” I asked. By that time, the bell rang and everyone came rushing in. I don’t think she heard my question since she got up and wrote the page number on the chalkboard. I gave up on asking again and turned to the page in my history book.
“Now, I’m going to play a video. I need you all to write five facts about the video, just so I know that you’ve been paying attention,” Sensei Karamu told us. “This video should last until the bell rings.”
I sighed and pulled out a piece of paper. I cupped my hands and rested my chin.
    “Excuse me.”
That unfamiliar voice made me look up. I saw a boy standing next to Sensei Karamu, showing her a piece of paper. I’m guessing he was the new student. He looked pretty cute, but then again, the lights were off, so I might be mistaken. Here’s what he looks like:

I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but Sensei Karamu pointed to the empty seat that was next to my desk. He walked towards me and sat in the empty desk. I couldn’t stop staring at him. I was right, he was cute, but it was his first day here. I didn’t want to ruin his first day by going lovey-dovey on him. I saw him turning to look in my direction, so I quickly glanced toward the video. I don’t know if he saw me looking or not.
    “Hello.” He voice was calm.
I turned to him and saw him looking at me. “Yes?”
“My name is Daisuke Fujisaki. I’m new here and I was wondering if you could show me around,” he answered.
I blinked, stunned by his lovely voice, and shocked that he was talking to me. I shook my head and gave him a small smile. “Sure. I’m Amari. It’s nice to meet you Daisuke.”
He nodded and turned to the video. I didn’t look away from him. I looked at his eyes, his hair, his lips, his neck, and the strange necklace he was wearing. I was going to ask him about the necklace, but the lights went on and Sensei-Karamu started talking.
“Leave your notes on your desk and get ready to go to your next class,” she announced.
I slammed the palm of my hand against my forehead. I forgot to write the notes! I thought.
    “Um… Amari, are you alright?”
I looked up and saw him standing in front of my desk, holding my history book and binder. “Yes, I’m fine. I forgot to takes notes on the video.”
He looked around. “Let me do that for you.” He took out a piece of paper from my binder and pulled a pencil out from his pocket. He started writing. He wrote so fast that I blinked and he was done. “There you go.”
This guy was amazing! “Thank you,” I said. I picked up the paper and looked over what he wrote. “I’m pretty sure you were only supposed to write five though.”
He shrugged. “I guess I didn’t hear that part when I came in.” He handed me my stuff. “You should hurry before the bell rings.”
I took my things and put them in my backpack. Sensei-Karamu came by and picked up the paper. “Wow, Amari, you wrote more than what I asked for. Good job,” she complimented. I just nodded. I couldn’t take credit for his work. She walked away and the bell rang. Everyone left, even Daisuke. I walked out and headed toward the door which leads to the outside.
It was our break. We get a break after every two classes. (I don’t know why that happens, but it’s nice.) I looked around for Daisuke, but I couldn’t find him.
    “Hey! Amari-Chan! Over here!”
I rolled my eyes at that voice. I wanted to keep walking, but I don’t really know where to go. I turned around and saw my “friend,” Alice, coming to me. This is what she looks like:

(Ok, I admit she is pretty, but it’s a pain when you get to know her) “Hey, I was calling you. I so have to ask you something!” She sounded very excited.
    “Sorry, I didn’t hear you. What’s up?”
“Did you hear about the new kid here at school? They say he’s extremely cute!”
Of course she was going to ask me about Daisuke. There’s not a day that goes by without her telling me about some guy. I thought with a sigh. “I’ve heard about him.” I’m going to regret what I say next. “He’s in my history class.”
“Oh my Goodness!!” she shouted and starting jumping up and down. “Tell me all about him!! Is he super cute?!
“You’re going overboard about a guy that you haven’t met yet,” I told her. She stopped jumping.
“So? I heard he’s cute, and I want to meet him! Where is he?” she asked. She looked around.
“I don’t know where he is. I just got out here and he left before I did,” I responded. I watched her as she looked around for him. It was pretty sad that she tries to get every single guy to go out with her, even though she ends up getting rejected.
She looked at me with angry eyes. “Liar! You’re hiding him from me so you can have him all to yourself! I see how you are.” She stomped away to her other friends and acted like none of this ever happened.
I let out a sigh of relief and walked towards an empty bench. I looked over my shoulder when I reached the bench, looking for him one last time. Again, he was nowhere. I turned back around and somehow, he was sitting on the other side of the bench!
“Hey, what took you so long?” he asked me.
I was shocked. “H-…. How did you do that?! Where did you come from?!”
He looked at me confused. “Um… I came from history class. The same class you came from just now.”
I shook my head. “That’s not what I mean. A little while ago you weren’t sitting there. You were nowhere out here.”
He squinted his eyes, as if I said something to make him angry. “If you didn’t see me out here, then how do you know I wasn’t sitting here? I could’ve been here the entire time and you could’ve overlooked me.” He blinked, waiting for an answer.
I was at a loss for words. I had no idea how to respond to that. Let alone answer it. “I… I don’t know what to say to that.”
He turned his attention to a basketball game that was going on. “If you cannot back up your words, then you might as well not talk at all.”
I was getting upset. When I first met him, he was nice. Why is he like this? I stood in front of him, blocking his view from the game. “I don’t know what your problem is. All I asked you was how you got here when you obviously weren’t here a little while ago.”
He was getting upset with me also. “Why do you continue to argue with me about this? You know that you’ll lose.”
I stared at him, thinking of how I could turn the tables on him. He smiled and got up, grabbing his things. “You can stop thinking,” he told me. “There’s no way someone like you could ever turn the tables on me.”
I was so surprised! How did he know what I was thinking?! He started walking away. I was left alone near the bench as he walked back into the building. I sat down and tried to think things through, but none of this made any sense to me. I calmed down and rested my head on the table. That’s when I noticed a white feather where he was sitting. I picked it up and examined it closely. “This is no ordinary bird feather. It’s much too large.” I looked in the direction where he walked. “What is he?” The bell rang and I headed inside.

I walked home alone after school. I didn’t know if he rode the bus or got picked up or something. I looked around as carefully as I could, but he was nowhere. He probably got picked up. I stopped my useless searching and stared at the ground while I walked.
I was only a block away from my home when I noticed my cousin, Ken Hasegawa, outside with his pet bird, Phoenix. Here is his picture:

(Strange how bird’s name is Phoenix, yet it looks nothing like one) That’s when I had an idea! I ran to him. “Ken! Hey Ken!”
He looked at me. “Hey Amari. What’s up?”
I got to him, tired ‘cause of the heavy backpack. “I was wondering if you could help me answer a question.”
“Sure. What is it?” Ken is awesome at science. He is so smart that he out smarted our science teacher. I sat next to him and pulled out the feather I found on the bench.
“Do you know what animal this feather belongs to? I found it at school today.”
He took the feather and looked at it for a while. “I’ve never seen a feather this big before. This doesn’t look like it belongs to any animal.”
I watched him as he examined the feather. “Do you think… it’s an animal that hasn’t been discovered yet?”
“I’m not sure. Go home so your mother doesn’t start worrying. I’ll do some research on this and tell you what I find.” He got up and helped me up. He waved to me before he shut the door behind him.
I continued to walk home. This is becoming a huge mystery. So many questions are waiting to be answered. What animal left that feather? Why was it there when Daisuke got up and left? But the question that I really want answered is what Daisuke Fujisaki was?
