• The Little Squirrels

tab The air was chilly outside the big oak tree, thus Angel and I cuddled in our cozy little hole in the tree. I snuggled his chest and felt his warm bushy tail wrap around me. We looked in each others eyes and I could see just how much he loved me.
tab “You ever miss your mom and dad,” he asked running his hand through my hair. Our parents thought it would never work between us, because of my extreme case of A.D.D. and his slight amount of O.C.D.-ness, so we had to run away to be together.
tab “Sometimes, but you know all I have to do is see something shiny and…” At that moment I had seen something shiny; it was outside and sparkled as the sun hit it. “Baby, I see shiny.” That was all I had to say and he was up and ready to go get it for me. I shook my head quickly. “Wait don’t, it is on a human.”
tab He stopped abruptly and looked at me. “You could have said that sooner, but I forgive you.” tab He kissed me. He was the first of my kind to accept me and I loved him for that.
tab I looked at him ashamed. “I’m sorry, that could have been really bad. I guess I become a different person when I see something shiny.”
tab “It is ok, I still love you. Just please try to control that impulse okay, sweetypie.” I kissed his forehead and messed up his hair. He fixed it quickly and looked at me somewhat mad. tab “You know I don’t like that.”
tab “I know but you look so cute when you’re mad.”
tab “Only you Stormie, only you.”
tab “I know I am different but that’s why you love me.” I looked at him lovingly, walked over to our large pile of nuts and grabbed two acorns, throwing one at him. “So what do you want to do today? We could go see the Rabbits, if you would like?
tab “That would be fun, but they live on the other side of town, you know that, right.”
tab “Yeah, but they did invite us to dinner a few nights ago and we couldn’t go…”
tab “True my love, well then let’s go.”
tab I hugged him and kissed his cheek.
tab “Now hurry up and get your coat on it is very chilly out there.”
tab I ran over to the coat rack and grabbed my coat. I walked outside and scurried down the tree fallowed by Angel. We walked together down the road until we reach a busy intersection. Angel had to cover my eyes as we ran across, if he hadn’t I would have run after one of the many shiny cars. I ran toward the rabbit hole. We jump in and say hello to the Rabbits.
tab “Hello, you two. Good to see you. Did you make it ok,” asked John Rabbit.
tab “Of course they did, sweetie,” said Susie Rabbit.
tab “We made it fine. Just the usual complications,” replied Angel.
tab “I really like shiny cars,” I said with a blush.
tab Angel kissed my forehead and held my hand as we enjoyed dinner. After a few hours, we said our goodbyes and walked home. He did not have to hold my eyes this time, there were no cars on the road at this time. We walked home cuddled in the tree and fell asleep in each other’s arms.
