• “Sh she’s coming to. Maybe I should slap her again.” I heard a voice say belonged to a man.
“You’ll do no such thing, otherwise I’ll feed you to the swamp.” Another voice said this time it was a woman’s voice that reminded me of Annabel’s. I finally managed to open my eyes and a man and woman were standing right in front of me. They were both in what seemed like they’re late teens or early twenties.
“Where am I? More importantly who are you?” I asked sitting up holding my head. It seemed as if a million horns where going off in my head. Head pounding like there were a million creatures inside fighting their way out.
“There’s no time for that.” The woman said grabbing my arm and pulling me to my feet. She was stronger than she looks that’s all I have to say. The woman looked to be about 5’7 with a thin frame that her clothes fell loosely around. At first glance she looks like one of those girls that can’t life anything over 5lbs. Although now that she just pulled me to my feet I’m pretty sure she could have given me some serious damage by now if she wished.
“Dang you’re strong.” I mumbled getting out of her iron grip. There was a red mark where she held my arm but when I looked at the two strangers in front of me I realized that the little mark on my arm was nothing. From where I stood I could tell that these two have been in some serious fights, there were visible scars on their arms and legs accompanied by mutable bruises. I suddenly felt stupid for rubbing the stinging red mark on my arm.
“It’s ok you’re not used to this kind of stuff.” The woman said noticing my embarrassment. I gave a shy smile and was about to say something else when what seemed like a boy with wings came rushing towards us. Although it wasn’t really a boy, it had the body of a kid, head of a vulture, and pure black wings. It opened its mouth and made a screeching sound.
“Get down!” The man said pushing me out of the way. I landed to the ground again with a loud thud making the creature even angrier. Flying low it came in fast and swift. I thought we were doomed and I cowered shielding myself with my arms, even though I know it was a futile attempt.
Just as the monster was about to close in for the kill I felt something wet cover my arms. At first I thought the creature spit out acid and I tried to wipe it off with my hands even though that was a dumb move. Although when I touched whatever made contact with my arms it was had a cold, slimy feel. I opened my eyes and examined the goo to realize that it was the monster’s blood. Unlike human blood it was a dull purple color. Feeling disgusted I wiped the blood off my arms and on the ground. I tried keeping my guard up just in case another attack came but glanced over and saw that the man had taken down the beast with his sword. I got off my butt and walked over to the two.
“Please can someone tell me what’s going on?” I asked more scared than curious.
“Not yet, in just a few more miles we’ll be at the base and we can talk in safety there.” The man said walking towards the waterfall I failed to notice until now. It was roaring loudly when we were in five feet in of it. The deafening sound of the waterfall made it hard to hear what the woman was saying but I think I got the point when she held out her hand making the jester for me to take it. I grabbed hold as we made our way behind the water fall. It was a good thing too because behind the roaring water fall was a thin sheet of ice. What was strange was that the temperature felt to warm to form ice but yet the ice was there. And I almost fell to my death too if it weren’t for the fact that we were holding each other’s hands forming a chain. Just underneath the surface of the water where sharp rocks that looked like they could kill a person on impact if they fell. Walking a bit longer there was a cave entrance; there were stalagmites and stalactites growing covering almost the whole cave. Some where blunt while others where as sharp as razor. I went to test how sharp one of the stalagmites when the man snapped, “Don’t touch them you fool. Their tips are covered in a lethal poison. It seeps into your skin and then to your blood stream. Need I say more?” I gulped then walked quickly away from the deadly stalagmites. As it turns out only the stalagmites contain poison which was good since the stalactites kept dripping. When I asked about it the pair just brushed off my question and continued deeper into the cave.
The deeper we went the darker it got and I was about to ask why no one turned on a flash light or lit a match.
“You’ll see soon enough.” The woman said and she was right. Just a few more steps and suddenly there was a faint silver glow filling the cave. It got brighter and brighter until I was able to see everything inside the cave.
“What is this stuff?” I asked touching the side of the cave’s walls. It was covered in moss that was admitting the silver glow.
“No one really knows but it looks like a starry night in here so we just call it star moss.” The woman said shrugging. I marveled at the glowing moss a bit more before picking up my pace trying to catch up with the others. The cave was getting brighter the father we progressed until there was no more silver glow but the light of the sun. Or what seemed to be the sun at least.
“We’re here.” The man said as we came out of the cave. On the other side of the cave was an open field and a slight breeze was playing with the grass and flowers. Farther ahead there was a circular, wooden gate that looked like it was trying to keep something out, or in. At the front of the entrance there were two watch towers where guards where posted. Some dressed like they were from WWII while others looked to be from the medieval times. It was kind of comical to see knights guarding what ever was in side along with soldiers from WWII.
“Open up it is us, Bruce and Diana.” The man, who I’m guessing is Bruce, hollered.
