• Chapter two:
    The Way Around Town

"Angie," the woman said as she started her car, she took a minute to face Angie. "My name is Kate Rose. If your scared to call me "mom" I understand."

Angie sighed and looked into her empty lap. "Sure, mom."

Kate smiled wide as she drove down Frank Street. Angie just kept on looking out the window. It took days and nights to find a mother for her, and she finally found one. But Angie was not ready to put her guard down. She is gonna live through it. Hopefully.

The ride back to Kate's place was silent. Angie had no idea what to say at this time. She just kept on looking out the window; seeing many people carrying bags, walking dogs, or having an argument about last night's "mishap". Kate looked at Angie; all she saw was the back of her head. Kate understands why Angie is all silent. But Kate's job is to protect and talk to kids, just like her job as a therapist.

Finally, Kate and Angie are home. Angie walked into Kate's house and saw loads of fancy furniture. Angie never been in a home like this. All of her old families were poor.

    "You live here?" Angie asked.

"No, not really." Kate answered. "This is my friend's house, I live with her."

Angie gulped. So her new mother is unstable? But she's a therapist! Therapist make a lot of money in a month. "Are you getting laid off at your-"

"Look," Kate said in a firm voice. "I don't want to talk about this! Now can you please go upstairs into the guest room and unpack your things. Dinner will be ready soon."

Angie nodded and grabbed her stuff and stumbled upstairs. She opened a door that was left of the staircase. There was a bed, and dresser, and some other fancy furniture. She load her bags onto the bed and began to unpack.

A couple minutes later, Angie walked downstairs entering the kitchen. A quick rush of fired chicken entered in her nose. Angie smiled as she watched Kate cooking.

"Is it almost ready?" Angie asked sitting at the table.

"Wait a minute..." Kate said facing the fired chicken in the pan. "Now, its done." She placed one fired chicken on a plate and handed it to Angie.

"Thank you," Angie said eating the fired chicken as Kate was fixing her dinner.

"Well your welcome, sweetie," Kate said as she walks over to sit with Angie.

Suddenly a scream came trough the door. A woman scream. A scream where it didn't show signs of fear, more like a disappointed scream.

"KATE!! It's me, Sherry! We have to talk!"

Angie stared at Kate. "Mom, is that your friend?"

Kate nodded. "Yes. And she's pissed off." Kate walked out of the kitchen leaving Angie eating at the table.
