• The World in Black and White
    By Blackbloodhali

    Prologue –

I was chosen to stop all of the Dark beings from entering in this world of humans. My name is Yuri Wakuyuki and I’m only fourteen years old. I go to Reinhardt Junior High School as a ninth grader. I’m not exactly you would call your average junior high school girl, I’m practically a witch and yes, I am a real one.
Sometimes, it gets tiring and I wish I was just normal but apparently I have to save the world from the Dark beings.
Kuro travels with me, you may refer him as a black cat but he was normal warlock until the Dark Witch of Dark beings gave him this curse that he has to stay in this form. However, he’s lucky that I’m available to transform him into his human form but for a limited amount of time. He informs me if there are Dark beings nearby and such.
My best friend is a cross between a werewolf and a vampire and her name is Luna Grace. She sometimes assists me in battles and helps me with my schoolwork when I’m falling behind. She’s the most special friend I ever met before. I’m very fortunate to have her as my friend. She was a Princess of The Dark Forest but then the Dark beings took over the Dark Forest and she had to leave sadly. When she transferred to my school, she immediately realized me and asked me to help her to get her forest back. I promised her that I’ll save her forest with my powers.
How did she realize me? I must apologize if I didn’t tell you at first… I’m the First Daughter of The High Witch. If you don’t know what it means, I’ll explain it to you. The High Witch is like… Uh, how do I put it this way… The High Witch is a boss in Witchcraft and such. She’s my mom apparently but we’re so distant though. The High Warlock is also my father. He’s in charge of the same thing. So it’s practically they’re King and Queen of the witches and warlocks. I think…
Anyways, she recognized me as the First Daughter and acted so formally when she first talked with me. I told her it’s okay to act informal and I’m not that special because The High Witch and The High Warlock don’t even care about me. So she decided to assist me since there’s no one to support me apart from Kuro.
My life is somewhat amusing but still stressful. It seems I’ll never get a break if these Dark beings keep popping up.
Feeling exhausted, I sat down in my desk, started to watch outside storm like crazy and my day began.

    Chapter One –

“Hey Yuri, look at the outside. It is really storming out there!” Luna exclaimed as she took the seat besides me and I nodded meekly.
“Yeah, I know… It’s strange. It doesn’t storm that badly here at New York City…” I mumbled back to her as I gazed to outside. The rain was coming down hard and as they pounded the window, it sounded golf balls that were trying to smash through the window.
“Do you think it’s the Dark beings?” Luna asked me, concern started to rise in her voice even though it’s hushed.
“Yeah, I believe so… But I don’t have Kuro…” I answered as I stood up, the chair made a scraping sound as it skidded across the tiled floor.
“Ah, well I could help you or you can try to summon Kuro…” She muttered to me as she watched me stroll to the door onto the way out of the classroom.
“No, I’m fine. I can handle it.” I told her and left the room. The hallway’s light flickered as a thunder clashed not so far away. I drew out my wand and held it up into the air.
“Bring out my clothing so I can do my job!” I yelled out loud and everything went black. There was a variety of colored ribbons flying pass by me and they wrapped themselves around me. They slowly transformed into my witch uniform.
I tightened my tie and walked down the hallway. So far there was no one out in the hallways luckily. I held up my wand again and yelled my summoning, “Come my broom, pompu!”
In a few minutes, I stood there and my broom smashed through the window, allowing glass shards fly everywhere.
“Hi Piku.” I greeted my broom and hopped onto it. We flew out of the window quickly and the rain was pounding on me, nearly bringing me down.
“Holy shoot, it’s really raining hard on me!” I yelled and stuck out my legs so we could go up higher in the air.
The broom send me a thought, Well… we could find a cover…
I scowled at her and continued to rise higher in the air, the rain seemed to pound on me harder and my hair was soaked already.
“No… We do not need a cover. We’re not weaklings like my parents.” I growled at Piku and started to go forward.
Fine, fine…She pouted as we flew faster through the air and I squinted my eyes, trying to see through the rain.
“Hugh… Oh no…” I groaned as something black and big with dark energy flew right straight at me.
Watch out! Piku screamed in my mind and I rolled upside down as the thing flew above me, nearly knocking me off my broom.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m trying to.” I muttered to my broom and we flew towards the ground as the dark thing chased us. It was roaring and I glanced over my shoulder. The Dark being was a Drake Noir, a dragon being to be exact and I clenched my teeth as we pulled up back into the air.
What are you doing? I thought we were not cowards. The broom shakily slowed down and I glowered angrily.
“I’m trying to think of a plan, idiot.” I muttered again and stood on my broom, drawing out my wand.
The Drake Noir roared as it was about to crash into us and I jumped off my broom, onto the Drake Noir.
Wah! Why you! Piku screamed at me, cursing as she dodged the creature and hovered below of us.
“Sorry!” I gave out a sheepish smile and clung onto the Drake Noir as it roared with fury when it realized I was on its slimy back. It bucked backwards and I wedged my fingers between its scales so I wouldn’t fall off.
Y-You’re going to kill yourself! Oy, how I’m going to tell you being killed by a Dark being to Kuro…! Piku cried and I rolled my eyes.
“Like I’ll kill myself, oh forget about that cranky pussycat.” I yelled back at Piku and drew out my wand, struggling to stay on the Drake Noir’s back.
“You will pay!” It hissed at me and bucked me off.
As I fell, I laughed and waved my wand, “Take this Drake Noir back unto its mortal world!” A bang echoed through my ears and a black hole appeared in the sky. It started to suck in the beast back into its Dark Being’s world. The rain and the clouds dispersed immediately.
“Ta da!” I laughed and Piku swooped under me to save me from being squished into pieces!
I tilted my hat backwards and brushed my hair out of my eye’s way.
Good job… My broom mumbled and we flew back where we came from.
As we arrived back to my spot where we disappeared from, I waved my wand and the glass shards came back onto the window. It was all cleaned up and the window doesn’t look like shattered anymore.
Piku whined that she’s outside and she should be with me. I shook my head and my outfit turned back into my regular schoolgirl clothes.
“Sorry, Piku. Just go home!” I yelled as I walked off, Piku muttered something and went off back to home.
I foraged a tardy pass with my wand and walked into the class. The teacher looked up from her desk and narrowed her eyes at me.
“Where were you? You’re twenty-five minutes late! The class is even almost over!” She scolded me and I laughed nervously.
Was I even that late to the class? Then I must’ve fought the Dark being for a long time. I never noticed that.
“Sorry, I had some appointment.” I muttered and handed her the pass.
She handed me a worksheet in return.
“You’re always having appointments, would you mind explaining that to me, after class?” She questioned me and huffed as she settled back in her seat.
“Alright, Mrs. Nettle.” I told her and sat back into my seat.
Luna smiled and greeted me quietly. “How did the fight go?”
I shrugged, “As usual. Piku complained a lot this time…” I pursed my lips and kept my eyes on my worksheet.
“Tehee, it seems like she loves to complain.” She chuckled under her breath and scribbled an answer on her worksheet.
I nodded, and smiled at her without looking at her. The worksheet somewhat seemed complicated but I still could get it luckily.
The bell rang after five minutes and everyone dissembled quickly as expected. Luna bided her goodbye and left. The teacher rose from her seat and I slid out of my seat as well, pulling out my wand.
“Now, would you like to explain this problem to me?” She asked me and I shook my head.
“It’s none of your business.” I waved my wand in front of her face, “Take away her memories of me being late and bring them unto the Memories’ world.” A small light illumined at the end of my wand and my teacher’s eyes went blank.
“Oh okay… You may leave now…” She mumbled in a monotone voice and I smiled.
“Thank you.” I chuckled at her and I grabbed my bag. I took off like the wind, it was second period now.
I strolled into the art room and sat at my spot, looking at the white board with instruction on it.
“Good day to my wonderful class.” Mr. Yusei chimed when the late bell rung. “Today, we are painting! You may paint a portrait of a person or a landscape! It may be anything. It will be displayed at an art show!”

The class started to chatter excitedly and I rolled my eyes. What a joy. I could just finish that in seconds and besides I don’t do art. Art isn’t my thing. The teacher trotted around with the art supplies and set them down at the table. I glanced at the art supplies that have been set at my table. There were a variety of paintbrushes, big or small and there was charcoal and such. I blinked and stared at them as if I expected them to move by it own. I wish I could use my magic powers to make them come alive and paint a picture for me.
My eyes wondered to the outside and I thought very hard of what should I draw. I tapped my fingers impatiently, what should I draw? Then it appeared and my lips curved into a smile.
“A black cat.” I whispered through my pink lips and started to work on my painting. At first, I drew outlines of a cat with a pencil then I inked it out with a permanent marker. I drew my light paintbrush out and dipped it in the water. Colors seemed to dance around the brown brush in the water. I dipped the brush into the black smothering ink and ran it across the outlines of the black cat.
“Oh? What is this, Yuri-san?” My teacher leered over my shoulders and I grinned.
“A black cat…” I answered and continued to fill in the black. The teacher grinned back at me.
“Neko kuro! Ahaha! It is an intriguing artwork, Yuri-san!” As usual he piped in his Japanese accent and I nodded.
“Thank you, Mr. Yusei.” I said and cleansed the black ink off the brush in the dirtied water.
He walked off and I still continued painting, being so absorbed into this. For some reason, I wanted to draw a black cat and needed to do it. All of my passions spilled out and splattered across the black cat that was filled in.
I added the background in it, the autumn trees, gold, and orange, brown and a variety of fall colors. The dirt was light golden-brown like an apple pie’s crust.
It seemed to come alive and in my imagination, the black cat sprinted about and seemed to smile at me. Apparently, today Kuro has been my inspiration. The dismissing bell finally chimed through the school and I stood up right away.
“Please leave all of your artworks at your table. I’ll collect them and allow them dry.” Mr. Yusei barked out orders happily and I slithered out of the humid room.
I walked down the hallway, onto my way to the math class.
