• ”Jamnaya?” she requested softly. “Yea?” “do you believe in fate?” “I don’t really know” he said honestly and she nodded. “I don’t know either” she replied and her tears came rushing faster.

tab She put her hands to her face and said “I don’t know what to do!” “what do you mean?” Jamnaya asked getting a bit closer. “I think it was her! What did they do to her?! They took her and now I can’t get her back!” Sonye said through her tears. She didn’t make any sense, she was mostly just saying random, unfinished thoughts. “Who? Who are you talking about?” “my baby! my little angel, my beautiful girl! They took her and now I can’t get her back!” she screamed forcing more and more tears from her eyes. She grabbed Jamnaya’s coat (he was now sitting in front of her on the floor) and hugged him as she was crying.

tab Jamnaya just sat there shocked. He had always known Sonye as the happy, childish killer, and now to find out she had a daughter and she actually felt pain (she was never sad before for longer than a moment). It was all just a shock. It was naïve of him to think after all this time that she never felt pain. He just never really thought of it before. Everything hit him at once and he felt like an idiot. All this time she’d been trying to reach out for him and it wasn’t until now that he noticed, when it was almost too late. All those times before, he’d never stopped to think.

tab “if you don’t mind, wh-what happened?” Jamnaya asked cautiously. Sonye let go of him and her crying became silent and less noticeable. She laid on her back and her face looked expressionless. Her hair parted about halfway down her face. Jamnaya saw her face, for the first time in his life, and he was in awe. She was so beautiful; her face soft, yet held so much strength and pain. Her eyes were like a maze, and he got lost in them. They were blue; as cold as ice with a ring of red and streaks of green. He never noticed but her lips, so red, were perfect. A perfect match for her face. No one he’d ever seen had been so gorgeous. This got him confused. How could this magnificent beauty been right under his nose this whole time?

tab He sat there in utter disbelief until he saw her lips moving, so he ignored himself and listened intently. He sat up a bit and stared at her gentle lips allowing the words to enter his mind. “do you remember when I first joined?” she asked “yea, It was 8 years ago and it was my second year in, and since I was advanced they completed my training and assigned you to me” he said, forcing the memories to resurface after 8 years. “right. Well . . . 2 years before that, I had a daughter. The second I had her, my life changed. she was my world, my being, my everything. When we got out of the hospital, I bought her a necklace, to cater to her beauty’’ she strained to continue, holding her locket. A tear slid down her face. “then, 2 years later, she was abducted. The only thing left was this locket” Sonye closed her eyes and tightened her grip.

tab Jamnaya noticed she was leaving a big chunk of information out, but didn’t want to push his luck, plus she was having a hard enough time as it was. So he just stuck with the simple, expected question “why would anyone want your child” “I don’t know, but people had been after her since the day she was born. I thought that since we were living in a bad neighborhood it was just people being stupid, but our house was broken into constantly. Only now that I look back do I realize that they never took anything that I knew of, but a lot of my daughter’s things went missing. I joined the H.U.R.T. to find her, but as you can see to no avail. Now she’s 10 years old . . . Today’s actually her birthday” Sonye chuckled at the ironic thought. “I guess seeing me was god’s way of saying ’happy birthday’, or maybe there is no god and it was just a coincidence. Who knows?” Sonye said putting on a small smile.
