    Chapter 17

    tab Riiiiiiing!
tab "Hmm? A phone call?" The man fishes through his pockets, and draws out a small Blackberry. He ends the annoying ringing sound as fast as possible, and puts his ear to the phone.
tab "Yes?" A small whisper comes from the other end, low and gravely,
tab "I had to go to last resort."
    tab "Last resort, huh?"
tab "Yes. Chad was very curious as to know what was going on, but I told him nothing."
tab "Good. How much does he know?" There is an uneasy hesitation from the other side, leading the man to believe he wouldn't like the answer. He wouldn't.
    tab "I--I can't say."
tab "You can't say?" the man's voice growl, progressingly growing louder and louder after each punctuated word. There is another uneasy hesitation. The man already wants to scream, but contains himself. That would do no good.
    tab "The woman...I lost her."
tab "You--what?!" In the end, he does scream, and rather loudly too.
tab "I lost her when you came back."
tab "And you didn't tell me this...why?"
tab "I didn't think it was necessary..." The man doesn't like that excuse. Not. One. Bit.
tab "Necessary?! That woman is the cornerstone of everything! So, whether you told Chad anything or not doesn't really matter anymore! There are no more chains on that woman! And since your stuck in there, you can't..."
tab "Calm down. You said before that you had a backup plan. A plan to backup my backup." The man takes a couple long, deep breaths, simmers down, and says in a calmer voice,
tab "Yes. Yes, you're right. There is one other person."
tab "One other...person?" The man nods, then remembers he's on the telophone, and says,
tab "Guess I didn't tell you the full plan for what happened a couple nights ago."
tab "The full plan? Wasn't it that you go in there, drug Chad, kill his wife, and then get out while I distract him?"
tab "You got a couple things a little off. I never touched a gun...your gun."
tab "Yeah...that's right. My gun. That wasn't part of the plan either. Why'd you use my gun?"
tab "Again, I never touched your gun, so why're you asking me?"
    tab "What?"
tab "As I was saying, there was one other person. I think it's about time I tell you about my little double agent. I don't think even our clever little Chad is...clever enough to deduct this one."
    tab "Who? Who is it?"
tab "Why, it's John Taylor. Policeman and murderer. The irony, eh?"

tab "What?" The man can't help crack a smile as he replies,
tab "Oh, I'm sure you've made very good friends with him."
tab "If by 'friends', you mean pretty much most hated enemy, than yes."
tab "Your voice is getting higher every word you speak. Are you switching over to your voice of disguise? Or are you just angry?" There is no reply to this, so the man goes on,
tab "Yes, no doubt you're in that cage because of him. But, hey, it's all part of the plan." Quickly, the man hangs up. There is no need to hear is reaction. He knows that it would only cause an abrupt hearing loss. He shrugs. That's too bad for him, he thinks, slouching deeper into his couch. But, tough. It's just all part of the plan.
