• She was shaking. It was hard to breathe and she could barely stand. The world was collapsing around her. The truck smashed against a large block of ice and tumbled over; smashing her against the side of the old cage.
    The old collar popped from her neck and lay next to her as shouts from the men around her echoed out. c***k! The keys that had been dangling from the ceiling smashed on the ground and landed-just out of her reach.
    This, of all things, tortured her. Not the beatings. Not the tainted meat. Not the collar that had suffocated her moments before. But the inability to reach freedom. Her eyes went bloodshot and the world became a blur as she smashed her self against the cage; slowly inching forward. She reached out with her muzzle, trying despretly to get the keys. She grasped them between her fangs and yanked them towards the cage. She was finding the right keys when there was a gunshot.

    And another wolf lay before her.
