• Nothing likes to live a lie. If it is not a desirable thing then why does it happen? Humans have become known for this. They portray themselves in such a way as to become desirable within society. They conform their lives to society, because no one wants to become the outcast, the undesirable. This continues until the day they die, which is something of a trivial matter to some. Is there a hell, is there a heaven, is there really any afterlife or do we simply become dust that the next generation will grind beneath a vernal heel? Though, death is not so trivial a matter as life itself.
Large black hooves crunched against cold harsh snow, and with every movement that the set of hooves made the snow would would scatter about, as the majestic creature glided through the freshly fallen snow. The white flakes that fell from the sky in a seemingly listless daze, but as they fell near the creature they began to melt from the warmth that emanated from the majestic creatures black fur covered body. The midnight mane flashed back as if it were onyx flames, the long black tail streamed like a banner behind the creature as it ran elegantly. A strange angular protrusion of bone was visible at the base of the creatures forehead, which extended for nearly a foot and a half toward the heavens. The falling snow seemed to dance around the creature majestically, it was almost as if the snow was welcoming the creature with a frozen embrace. The creature throws its head back with a joyous whine as it pranced in a circle, while shaking its large head, then suddenly it started rearing upwards towards the sky.
Nature had never forgotten this creature, though the creature had never forgotten nature either. The two were in tune to the other, but just as suddenly as the snow fell it began to dissipate just as quickly as it had started, the last few flakes of snow drifted lazy in unpredictable patterns from the milky sky. Slowly the creature settled back onto all fours and stared up at the white clouds that lingered above the Earth. The protrusion of bone that graced the top of the creature's forehead began to disappear along with the fading snow. Gradually the creature began to look as if it were nothing more than a normal horse, though that was about as far from the truth as anyone could get.
“Arina!" The shouted name caused the creatures head to turn, its gaze settled in the direction the call had come from. With a last lethargic look to the heavens above, the creature whirls, darting in the direction it the call had come from, which repeated several more times. It took the creature mere minutes to reach the man who had been calling, the creature slowed its pace and approached the man with an admirably amiable walk. The man puts an over worked, but gentle hand to the snout of the creature, the creature snuffled at his touch, and then lowered its head towards the man's pockets, for a sweet savory sent that radiated from them, that caused the creatures ears to perk forward. A pleasant hearty laugh of delight emits from the man. "Now now darlin', don't be so pushy." His voice was soothing, almost pleasing to the creatures ears, which perked forward toward the man to show that it enjoyed his voice. Gently the man shoves its nose away, and presents a sugar cube, which the creature had devoured as soon as he had offered the cube of sugar. "That's a good girl. Well, it's about time to go into town, so let's get you hooked up to the sleigh." From his belt he unclips a horse halter he had placed there earlier, he reaches forward and slides the halter over the mares face with ease, but that was because the creature had allowed him to put the halter upon it.
Once upon a time unicorns and humans could once coexist with one another. Humans respected the unicorns secrecy, and in return the unicorns offered the humans the magic they possessed, to heal and to protect. Then things changed. Humans wanted more, they wanted to bind the unicorns, enslave their wills and use them until they were destroyed. With no other choice the unicorns fled, having to preserve their own existence, so they went into hiding. Some simply vanished into remote forests and mountains, places that humans dared not venture, while others hid among the humans as mere work animals, keeping their true natures suppressed until they became nothing more than the dumb beasts they posed as. As time went by, some were killed, some remained in hiding, or some became nothing more than just a common workhorse. The unicorns that lived and retained themselves could not come out of hiding, unless they wished for death. As the passing of time continued, they soon faded into legends, and not long after that, they became nothing more than fleeting myths.
The leather of the sleigh harness was tightened over the creatures lean form, the straps and buckles were things that the disguised unicorn was quite familiar with, so they did not really bother the creature very much. The creature stood with one hind foot cocked back, its neck bent forward so its snout almost touched the snow covered ground, its eyes were only half open as the man pats the creature's side gently, as he speaks in his soothing tone as he adjusts the harness. Its ears swivel toward the man as he speaks, but the creature lifted its head as it herd the odd sound of bells jingling softly when the creature's gaze met the source of the sound the man was clipping the bells to either side of the harness. The creature had seen bells before, but never once were they strapped upon her. Curiously the creature shakes it's head causing the bells to make their sweet jingling sound that they made. "Atta' girl." He says calmly as pats the creature's nose, he feeds her another sugar cube before moving behind the creature's body, where he proceeded to connect the harness and straps to the sleigh. After a few moments the creature hears him mount the seat of the sleigh that was attached to it. Without even a cue from the man, the creature starts moving forward, soon moving at a light trot down his driveway and toward the little dirt road that stretched from his home to the main road, and from there, to a small town.
