• Kylie ran through the forest her wand out, tree branches scratching at her.
    Her breath came out in quick gasps. “the line is just a few feet away. I am gonna make it!” She thought. Her foot caught underneath a thick tree root and she fell hard on the ground with a scream. Damion Heathers appeared in front of her and crouched down his grey eyes cold. “You dared to try to escape again? You must be pretty thick headed.” He said in a cold voice.
    Kylie swore. “We will just see what Miss. Myers says about this.” Damion said yanking Kylie to her feet. “NO!” Kylie screamed. “Excuse me?” Damion asked. Kylie pointed her wand at Damion and he flew back. Damion stood up straight and drew his wand pointing it at kylie. Kylie suddenly couldn’t move. Damion grabbed her wrist and vanished appearing with her into Miss. Myers’s office. Miss. Myers rose from her chair. “My my what have we here?” She asked in a questioning voice. “Miss Kylie was trying to escape from the premises again.” Damion said.
    Miss. Myers smiled. “this is the second..wait no fourth time. Is there something you don’t like about this school Kylie?” she asked. “Yes I HATE it here!” Kylie shouted. Miss Myers smiled. “Well that’s too bad Kylie. You know the rules: Students are not allowed to leave until graduation or when they are of age that is twenty-one.” She said in her high voice. I laughed. “Really. Cause um My brother vanished before his twenty first birthday a DAY before. And the same thing happened to Jace Kenner’s older sister and Vivian Neander’s older sister.” Kylie said folding her arms.
    Damion glared at Kylie. “ Are implying that we kill them!?” He asked. “Why yes. Yes I am.” Kylie said. “I guess you will be killing me in about three years.” She added. Miss Myers’s jaw tightened. “Damion find her a watcher!” She snapped. “Aaron can do it.” Damion said. Aaron appeared and looked at his brother. “ what is it Damion?” He asked. “Kylie Hastings needs a watcher.” Damion said.I glared at Damion. “She is to go straight to her classes and straight to her dorm until dinner then straight back to her dorm and you are to guard that dorm.” Miss Myers said. kylie groaned. “You have got to be kidding me!” kylie shouted.
    Damion shook his head. “Unfortunately I am not.” He said. kylie sighed. Aaron walked her out and led her to her dorm. She swallowed hard when they got to the dorm Kylie walked inside and shut the door in Aarons face. She flopped down on the bed and let her wand fall on the floor and for the first time in years covered her face with her hands and cried herself to sleep.
    The next day at breakfast she sat next to Nicolai Sangrias. “What happened?” Nicolai asked. Kylie looked down. “Damion caught me and assigned me a watcher.” Kylie whispered. “I am never getting out of here..and you turn nineteen in almost a week…..” Her voice trembled as she pushed at the eggs on her plate. Nicolai took Kylie’s free hand that was sitting on her knee. “Don’t worry about me. They can take away my wand but I can fight without it.” He whispered. Kylie shook her head. “I don’t want to just leave you here. That’s not fair.”
    Nicolai looked at her. “Don’t be stupid Kylie. You need to leave.” He said. Kylie sighed shakily. “Not like I can I have a watcher. I guess I will just die here” she said after a little while. Nicolai shook his head. “I won’t let that happen. You did not come here to die.” His voice was determined. Kylie was silent. “What can you do about it? You are not a shade.” she asked after a while. Nicolai was silent.
    Kylie closed her eyes. “they have five shades and one you. I am sorry Nicolai but you don’t have a chance.” She whispered. “I know damions killer spell. I think I can handle it Ky.” Nicolai snapped. Kylie jumped up. “Well excuse me for telling you the truth!” she snapped.
    “Kylie. Relax!” Nicolai said. Kylie turned around and walked off, fuming and Aaron followed.
    Nicolai stood and his best friend Jace rose. “Nick let it go.” Jace said. Nicolai nodded. “There is no way she is ever gonna make it past that border.” He said shaking his head. Jace didn’t say anything. Jace knew Nicolai cared about Kylie, Nicolai waws just to stubborn to show it. "It's always nice to know that she can count on you." He whispered then turned and walked away. Nicolai looked at Jace with a sigh and went to the gym.
    Jason Heathers, Aiden Haleys, andCarter Aarons standing in a corner of the gym turned to see Nicolai walk in. "Look it's the Outsider." Carter laughed. Nicolai glared at the three boys in disgust. Jason pushed his blond hair out of his green eyes and smirked. He pointed his wand down, the tip facing Nicolai. "Adantero." He whispered. Nicolai fell hard on his left knee. Jumping up Nicolai drew his wand from his jean pocket and aimed it at James. "You really wanna fight with me?!" He demanded walking toward James. "oh please Nicolai this is just pathetic!" James sneered.
    Nicolai laughed. "Oh I'm pathetic? Who begged for their dad to take them home the first few days that they were here? Oh that's right you did. Not me!" He said coldly.
    Aiden nudged James. "Is that true?" He whispered. "Of course not, Aiden. Nicolai is just trying to throw the brick on me when everyone knows he almost drowned in Murky Lake!" James declared. Carter laughed. "Blackara!" Nicolai shouted. "What the hell!" Carter shouted unable to see. "Take it off Nicolai!" Aiden demanded. Nicolai smirked. "Make me!" He said. "Luicifious!" James shouted pointing his wand at Nicolai. Nicolai's wand fell on the floor. "You think you are so tough Nicolai." James sneered. "Deep down inside however. Is that scared weak fifteen year old when you first got here." he continued. "Andantera!" He said. Nicolai was released form the binding spell and fell on the ground gasping unable to breathe.
    Carter stared at Nicolai. "Sepera" James whispered backing away along with Aiden and Carter seeing the Teacher, Professor Regalers walk in. Nicolai went still and fell unconscious. "Nicolai!" Aiden shouted. Professor Regalers looked over, saw Nicolai and walked briskly to them. "He was talking to us and just passed out." Carter lied. "why are your wands out then?" Professor Regalers asked kneeling down examining Nicolai. "We were discussing wands. What types we have." Carter replied. Kylie walked in with Aaron. Carter saw Kylie and glared at her. Kylie jogged over. "What the hell happend?" She asked. "Kylie! Language. Nicolai just fainted." Dimitri walked in. "Miss Regalers?" he asked.
    "take Nicolai to the nurse." Professor Regalers said. Dimitri nodded slung Nickolai over his shoulder and left. Kylie glared at carter. "How can you believe him?!" Kylie shouted at Professor Regalers. " I don't know what to believe" Professor Regalers snapped.
    Kylie swallowed hard. "I HATE IT HERE!" she screamed and fell on her knees. 'Kylie! Get up!" Aaron snapped. Kylie jumped up. "What. WHY DONT YOU JUST KILL ME ALREADY?!" she screamed. aaron sighed. "We don't kill Kylie."
    "Then where the hell is my brother, huh Aaron where the hell is he?!" Kylie cried.
    Aaron looked at the ground. "Exactly! You can tell because you killed him!" Kylie shouted tears forming in her eyes. Kylie turned around and ran out of the gym. "Kylie!" Aaron shouted. Kylie ran out of recreational building and into the dorm hall. Aaron was running after her. Kylie opened her door shut it and slid the dead bolt into place.She sank to her knees, buried her face in her hands and cried for the first time since she realized her brother was missing.
    Aaron sat outside of Kylie's door listening to her crying and bit his lip. "Kylie?" He asked. "Go away." Kylie sniffled. Aaron sighed. "Kylie please open the door." He said
    "I'm sorry but the deadbolt is jammed.:" Kylie lied. Aaron ran his hand through his night black hair.
