• CHAPTER 167 - THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE

You would think a serious job would have been had since day one of living...but sometimes such serious jobs can be made upon you at the last minute in the least expected moment.

Once again, I was shirtless and lying face-down on Kai's bed with my towel below my head. His fingers were put to work again on my back since my muscles were so tense from being so stressed out. He was still so good at it; he hit every single pressure point at the exact pressure needed to release the tension. Was there anything Kai couldn't do?

"I can't understand women and your mood swings," Kai chuckled, reading my mind.

I merely sighed lovingly and buried my face in my pillow. Kai's thumbs rubbed up and down the middle of my spine, causing a few harmless and painless pops and nearly making me go motionless with satisfaction. Despite how cold his hands were, they felt nice against my heated skin. He rolled his thumbs on my shoulder blades and leaned over to kiss my back in between my shoulder blades.

"Your hair is long," Kai played with a few strands.

I nodded, "It's almost as long as Aya's was," I smiled lightly; Aya's hair was down to her hips and mine was just about at my waist. My hair had grown rapidly over the past year, despite I never trimmed it much at all.

"It's beautiful," Kai ran his fingers through it. "Silky."

I giggled lightly, "You sound odd talking about hair," I sighed once more. "Hey, Kai, do you mind if I ask you something?"

Kai stopped playing with my hair and leaned over slightly so I could kind of see him, "Anything,"

I paused for a moment, "How and why did my parents become Exorcists?"

Kai paused as well, probably thinking, "It was kind of unexpected for them,"

I nodded slightly, "Go on," it seemed as though Kai knew fifty times more about my parents than I did.

"When your parents had you and your sister, you all were a completely normal family," Kai started. "There was nothing out of the ordinary for you and your family. They never knew what your blood was like, nor were they even knowledgeable about the existence of Vampires, Werewolves, Succubi, or Angels.

"About a year after you and your sister were born, they took you two into the hospital to get some blood work done. You had been ill frequently and they wanted blood tests on you and your sister--on you to see if there was anything wrong and on Aya to see if she was at risk for anything as well.

"What normal humans didn't know at that time, was that the only doctors in the world who did blood tests actually worked for the Society." Kai paused. "Only they were chosen to do blood work to determine who had the immortality blood and who had the death blood. Not even average doctors or nurses knew about the blood doctors; only the blood doctors and the Society knew who they truly were.

"You and your sister had normal blood tests, procedures and care while at the hospital. It wasn't until a couple of days later that a group consisting of the blood doctor, Akatsuki's parents, Exorcists, and the head of the Society showed up at your doorstep. They told your parents everything--everything from you and Aya's blood to the existence of monsters.

"Your parents were, obviously, stunned, and they almost didn't believe what was being interpreted. the head of the Society opted to give them a position as Exorcists in order to keep you and your sister safe from harm. Your parents almost had no choice; either they become Exorcists and try to keep you two as safe as possible, or attempt to ignore what they were told and increase your chance at death.

"So they became Exorcists within another year or two. All they ever did was to ensure the safety of you and Aya--especially you since you possess the blood everybody wants." Kai sighed. "They didn't want to join the Society but they had no choice."

"Oh," was all I said as Kai started massaging me again. "I see."

"It was quite a shock for them, if you can imagine," Kai mumbled. "They knew from that day on that their lives would be far from normal."

"I wish they would have, at the least, warned us about Aya's blood," I sighed. "It would have been nice to know what she was getting into."

Kai ceased his massaging and laid himself on top of me. Even though he was wearing a shirt, I could still feel the cool of his skin through it on my bare back. He buried his face in my neck and I closed my eyes, lightly gripping the pillow my head was rested on. He dragged his lips from my neck and to my shoulder and continued going back and forth. He wrapped his arms under my stomach and kissed my cheek, causing my heart to flutter.

"Despite how many times we've kissed and hugged," I started, "I still get butterflies like mad every time we do."

"As do I," Kai admitted with a chuckle.

I flipped onto my back and Kai leaned down to kiss me. He pressed his torso against my bare torso and he kissed my neck. I could feel myself heating up again, despite his cool touch. My neck arched back and I moaned lightly from Kai's graceful fingers gliding down my waist. I was sure we were about to go a step further before the bedroom door was opened without warning and there stood Kira in the doorway. I squealed and covered my upper self with one of the pillows.

"Am I interrupting something?" Kira asked, trying to hold back his laughter.

"You're damn right you're interrupting!" I blustered and then blushed severely after Kai stared at me in shock. "I-I mean...I mean..."

"Yes, you were interrupting," Kai sighed. "I was giving her a massage."

Kira induced another pelvic thrust, "My baby brother adapts well off of me,"

I frowned at Kira, "That's disturbing on many levels,"

Ever since my nightglare/the return of Kai two days ago, the atmosphere had lightened a little. At first, I forced myself to be more cheerful but I eventually managed to actually cheer myself--and Kai--up. We were trying to put the worst behind us for the time being; we had to concentrate on us and what we wanted to do at that moment.

"Arisa," Kai started, "do you suppose we return home today or tomorrow?"

I bit my bottom lip, "I don't know," I sighed. "I need to feed Momo."

"Today, then," Kai nodded and climbed off of the bed.

Kira continued to stand in the doorway and avert his vision to Kai and then me and vice versa. I grabbed a different pillow and chucked it at Kira, "A little privacy!"

Kira merely laughed and left the bedroom, shutting the door on the way. My face turned even redder at the thought that Kira quite possibly saw my mosquito-bite boobs--which I had to admit had grown slightly since who-knows-when. Kai handed me my shirt and bra while chuckling and I sighed, slipping both of them on and adjusting my hair.

"Perhaps you need a new bra?" Kai read my mind once again. "Have you graduated to a low B-cup?"

I beamed at him, "You would know that,"

"I would assume I had the right to look?" Kai cocked an eyebrow.

My mood changed to somber in a few seconds and I looked down, "Do you think mom and dad ever regretted having Aya and me?"

Kai stared at me in shock, "Why would they think such a thing?"

"Because we forced them into a life they didn't know about, and that they couldn't back out of," I sighed. "We put so much stress on them on a daily basis and Aya and I didn't even know--and we were so reckless."

Kai cupped my face and stared at me sentimentally, "I'm positive they never possessed an ounce of regret in them," he smiled weakly. "They would have no reason to regret having a child such as you."

I smiled back at him and wrapped my arms around his neck, "There's nothing to regret about you either," I kissed him on the cheek. "I'm sure your parents are proud of you."

Kai scoffed, "Not with the way I--"

I pressed one of my fingers against his lips, "Don't even get started," I caressed him. "They're proud of you for pulling through."

Kai chuckled lightly, "You make everything cheesy,"

"Not nearly as much as you do," I frowned at him.

"Are you ready to return home?" Kai asked, pressing his forehead against mine. "I'm sure your cat misses you."

I nodded and closed my eyes while smiling lightly, "Yes, I am,"

Kai and I exited the bedroom, only to be greeted by Kira, "Boooobies!" he sang.

My face burned red again and I glared at Kira, slaughtering him in my mind. How embarrassing that Kai's brother saw what I was most ashamed of. At least Kai said they were growing a little. Kira pulled me into a tight embrace and sighed deeply.

"At least now you and Kai will gain a little privacy," he said immaturely. "Who knows the possibilities you two could end up with?"

Instead of freaking out on Kira, I instead gave him a hug and thanked him. He helped me get through the time when Kai had disappeared and he aided me when I was sick. I couldn't have been more thankful for him. We bid our farewells to Matsuda and Orihime as well and we took off, back to our home. I wanted Kai to promise he wouldn't leave again if he were ever to hurt me. I knew I probably couldn't stop him from hurting me, but I sure as hell would try to stop him from leaving again. I would never let him out of my sight again.

My parents...if they were to like Kai before...what would they think now that Kai is unintentionally hurting me?
