The Forgotten Legend Script
After intro – Oath to Order continues to play -- fades from black into mountain scene with sun moving down slowly
Then jumps to side view of lake – scrolls sideways down the span of the lake and stops on one side – girl (Valerie) sits on this side of lake – camera view cuts off top portion of face
Scene jumps to front view of village (based off of kakoriko village??) and scrolls straight in for a few feet
Scene jumps to side view of village – camera is sorta close to ground – should see front view of some buildings while they are not important – camera keeps scrolling until it comes to some brush at the edge of the village
Audience should have time to just see the brush for a second before music suddenly turns to something quick paced and exciting (haven’t picked this song out yet) and boy and bunny burst out of the brush
Boy chases bunny through village for a little bit before boy is stopped by old man (music is stopped too—replaced by other music??) old man grabs stick from the boy’s hands while bunny gets away
*Old man– “What do you think you’re doing?! Running around and chasing a small creature like some…some…savage?! You know very well there is no violence in New Kokoriko! Where is your mother?!”
Little boy is on the verge of tears – Xena runs over to the two
*Xena–“Wait! I’ll bring him to his mother! I’ll take care of him. Don’t worry.”
Old man grunts and walks off with stick still in hand – little boy looks up at Xena
*Little boy–“Thank you Xena! Mr. Dampeh is really mean.”
Xena pats boy on head
*Xena–“No problem. Let’s bring you home.”
Scene jumps to mountain scene as sun sets just a little bit more – jumps to inside of house – camera faces front door – front door opens and Xena steps inside
*Xena–“Mom? Dad? I’m home.”
Camera switches to doorway into kitchen – mother’s face peeks in
*Xena’s mother–“Oh hello (Xena)! Your father’s upstairs and dinner should be ready soon. Where’s Valerie?”
Xena’s face turns surprised anime style…then becomes angry
*Xena–“Valerie…She probably zoned out again. I’ll go get her (rolls her eyes)”
*Xena’s mother–“Well hurry back! The sun’s almost down!”
*Xena–“I know, I know.”
Xena slams door behind herself – scene jumps to back view of girl by lake (zooms in a little bit) – by now, it is pretty dark, but not pitch black – camera jumps and audience only sees background of grass, brush, trees, etc. (nothing important or significant) and Xena walks into view from side – face expression is serious but not angry – stops in the view
*Xena–“I thought I’d find you here.”
Camera jumps to earlier view of girl with top portion of face cut off –
then camera raises to reveal rest of face as she turns to look at Xena (expression slightly surprised) – jumps to title screen! biggrin (has yet to be designed) – jumps to mountain scene with moon halfway covered by mountain tops – jumps back to inside of Xena’s house facing front door – door swings open and Xena and Valerie burst in and slam door behind themselves.
*Xena and Valerie–“WE’RE HOME!!”
Xena’s father peeks from kitchen – mother is just about to step off of bottom step in living room
*Xena’s father–“By the goddesses, girls! You barely made it for curfew!”
*Xena–“Sorry, but it’s not my fault Airhead here can’t keep track of WHERE THE SUN IS!!”
*Valerie–“Well I keep telling you not to come and retrieve me! I don’t care about curfew or any of this village’s stupid rules. Not anymore.”
*Xena–“Well you have to care to an extent or you’ll get kicked out!”
*Valerie–“Don’t get my hopes up!”
*Xena’s mother–“Stop it you two! All that matters is that you’re home safe! Now come eat!”
Xena and Valerie let out breaths – Xena walks toward kitchen – Valerie starts then her eyes widen and she stops…she clenches stomach
*Valerie–“Actually…”
Xena’s parents are already in kitchen – Xena turns
*Valerie–“I feel kinda sick…I don’t think I’ll be eating tonight.”
Valerie runs upstairs – Xena lets out a breath and turns back toward kitchen – camera jumps to overhead view of bedroom with two beds – Valerie is in one, lying awake – camera zooms in and spins slightly (both slowly) – after a moment, echo voice of younger Valerie plays
*younger Valerie–“It’s too hard!”
*woman’s voice–“Keep trying, Valerie. You just need patience.”
As voices continue to play, scene fades slowly from bedroom scene to close up view of two fishing lines bobbing in the lake – shadow of fish swims underneath one – that line is yanked out of the water and the shadow dashes away (younger Valerie’s voice shouts from offscreen)
*younger Valerie–“Darn it!”
Close-up of grass then a fishing pole slams down onto the ground from offscreen – camera jumps to legs of younger Valerie (only for a millisecond) younger Valerie sits down and pouts
*younger Valerie–“Hmph!”
Woman’s voice speaks from offscreen
*woman’s voice–“It’s okay, Valerie! It just takes practice. Watch me.”
Close-up of hands on reel of fishing pole, waiting
*woman’s voice–“Just stay steady.”
Close-up of line in water – another fish shadow swims near – camera jumps to front view of younger Valerie sitting and pouting, watching the water
*woman’s voice–“Wait for it…”
Close-up of line in water – fish shadow’s face is touching line
*woman’s voice–“Almost…”
Close-up of hands on reel
*woman’s voice–“Now!”
Hands start turning reel quickly – close-up of fish shadow being dragged by line through the water – jumps to front view of younger Valerie watching with wide eyes – fish shadow continues to be dragged for a second then is yanked out of the water (fish details are revealed) – camera follows fish a few feet in the air – fish dangles and flops helplessly – poor fish :’( -- woman’s voice speaks from off screen
*woman’s voice–“See? It just takes patience.”
Jumps back to front view of younger Valerie
*woman’s voice–“Try again. Please?”
Younger Valerie gets irritated face
*younger Valerie–“Okay, okay.”
Younger Valerie sits up – jumps to close-up of water – from off screen, fishing line is cast into the water – jumps to side view of younger Valerie (zooms in slowly and slightly) she is focusing intently on the water – jumps back to close-up of line – fish shadow swims by – jumps back to side view of younger Valerie who becomes surprised then tense – woman’s voice speaks from offscreen
*woman’s voice–“Just wait, Valerie. Patience.”
Jumps back to close-up of line and fish shadow – fish shadow eventually puts its tip to the line – woman’s voice shouts from off screen
*woman’s voice–“Now!”
Line and fish are yanked out of the water and off screen (again, fish details are revealed) – jumps to fish dangling and flopping just above water – younger Valerie’s voice shouts from off screen
*younger Valerie–“I did it!”
Jumps to front view of happy, giggling Valerie…then she looks up at the woman
*younger Valerie–“Look Mother, I did it!”
Mother’s hand comes down and pats younger Valerie on the head
*mother’s voice–“Yes you did, Valerie. Just remember. Sometimes success in life depends on a person’s ability to wait.”
At some point as Valerie’s mother is saying the last sentence, the camera jumps to back view of both (zooms out slowly) – after sentence is said, scene slowly fades to close-up of present Valerie’s eye (has a somber look to it) – then sounds of men shouting and horses whinnying suddenly echo in – Valerie’s eye closes to the memory – white flash to close-up of many horses – white flash to close-up of sword coming up into the air, glinting in sunlight – white flash back to Valerie’s eye (closed and shaking…on the verge of tears) – view remains there as Valerie speaks
*Valerie–“Mother…”
Jumps to close-up of Valerie’s right hand – pale outline of triforce is traced on back of hand – upside down triangle has just barely a glow to it – then whole thing disappears (this all happens quickly) – jumps back to close-up of eye – eye pops open and she gasps – jumps to side view of right above bed – Valerie sits up quickly into view
*Valerie–“Who’s there?!”
Jumps to Valerie’s view as she looks around the room – after surveying the room quickly, jumps back to side view – Valerie puts right hand to her head and whispers to herself
*Valerie–“I’m losing my mind…”
Xena’s voice sounds from off screen
*Xena–“Well isn’t that an understatement.”
Valerie looks – jumps to front view of Xena standing in doorway, holding plate of food (has a cocky smile) – her smile becomes kind and she walks forward and off screen, talking
*Xena–“I thought I’d bring you some food just in case. Mother made spiced cuccoo. Your favorite.”
As she is speaking, camera jumps to side view of Valerie sitting up in bed – Valerie swings her legs around and sits on the edge of the bed so Xena could sit too – after Xena’s line, camera jumps to close-up of Valerie’s face as Xena holds the plate up and moves it back and forth
*Xena–“Come on. You know you can’t resist it.”
Valerie gives a tired smile to Xena
*Valerie–“You’re right. I can’t.”
Valerie takes the plate and lowers it onto her lap (off screen) – jumps to front view of girls (still sitting on bed) – Valerie eats as Xena speaks
*Xena–“So what’s on your mind?”
Valerie swallows
*Valerie–“You’re not gonna make me apologize for being a jerk?”
*Xena–“Well I decided to let you slide. You obviously had something going on in your head. You know…more than usual.”
Both smile
*Valerie–“Well you’re right. Something is going on. I just don’t know what yet.”
*Xena–“Is it about your mother?”
*Valerie–“Yeah. Well mostly. I’ve been remembering her a lot…and then remembering her death.”
*Xena–“That’s terrible. I thought you’ve already recovered from that.”
*Valerie–”I did too. But that’s not the only thing. I keep getting this uneasy feeling. Like something bad is happening. Something that we’re unaware of.”
*Xena–“That’s just weird.”
*Valerie–“Yeah. And…even though you won’t like to hear it…I feel something pulling me…calling me to leave the village.”
*Xena–“Oh Valerie…I think that one’s just you. But I keep reminding you. The world’s not safe out there.”
*Valerie–“And I keep reminding you. Danger is everywhere, even inside New Kokoriko. Except out there in the world, there’s freedom. There are no rules, no curfews…”
*Xena–“How do you know?”
*Valerie–“I just know. There has to be a place like that. There just has to.”
Xena closes her eyes and looks down, shaking her head – she gets up and walks off screen (to her own bed) – camera jumps to side view of Xena’s bed – she walks in from off screen and sits on the edge, facing Valerie – jumps to front view of Valerie…she is thinking…then she looks up at Xena
*Valerie–“I think it’s been keeping me up at night.”
Jumps to front view of Xena
*Xena–“The uneasy feeling?”
Jumps to Valerie
*Valerie–“That…and something else…”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“What?”
Jumps to Valerie
*Valerie–“…I don’t know. I’m only guessing it’s my desire to leave. I’d get this surge of energy every now and then and my thoughts are automatically sent to the thought of leaving. Don’t you see Xena? Staying here is torturing me.”
Jumps to Xena, who has a sad look on her face…closes her eyes
*Xena–“Valerie…”
Opens eyes and looks at her
*Xena–“I just don’t want you to get hurt. My parents don’t, our friends don’t, no one does!”
Jumps to Valerie
*Valerie–“Well that’s my decision to make! I’m leaving here eventually. I just need a plan. Maybe a map…”
Jumps to Xena, who lets out a breath
*Xena–“Well…Let’s get some sleep. We’re meeting (insert character name here) and (insert character name here) in the…”
Xena whispers
*Xena–“Training spot tomorrow.”
*Valerie–“Great! It’ll be fun!”
Valerie puts the plate down onto the floor and lies down – jumps to view of doorway (where the only light is coming from) – Xena walks to the door from off screen and closes it – when it is closed, all goes pitch black, acting as a transition – fades in from this black to overview of circle made by trees (somehow show it is right near the village) – audience can see various training equipment and two people standing in the circle (zooms in a little bit) – camera jumps to Kelsey’s character (yet to be named or designed) sitting on the ground, bored
*Kelsey–“*moan* I can’t take this anymore! When are Xena and Val gonna get here?”
Jumps to shaun’s character (yet to be named or designed) standing, examining an arrow with a quiver full of them already on his back
*Sean–“They’ll be here. Val probably overslept again.”
Valerie’s voice shouts from off screen
*Valerie–“Hey! I resent that!”
Camera jumps to view of brush and trees – Xena and Valerie emerge into the clearing – jumps to Kelsey, who stands up
*Kelsey–“Finally! Where have you two been?”
*Xena–“My parents wouldn’t get off our backs this morning! They kept asking us, ‘How are you Valerie? Are you feeling better?’”
*Valerie–“’Where are you two going? Are you going to meet your friends?’ They were so aggravating!”
*Kelsey–“What was their problem?”
*Sean–“Have you all forgotten? Tomorrow is the day we meet those we are betrothed to.”
Anime style show all three girls wince – jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Well despite that. Are you ready to train? I set up something special today.”
Sean gestures toward a Twilight Princess based dummy – his voice sounds from off screen
*Sean–“I also learned a move from my father that will amaze you all!”
Jumps to Xena and Valerie
*Xena–“I’m amazed by what a big head you have.”
Camera jumps to almost overhead view of entire group as all girls giggle – jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Very funny. Need I remind you that I’m the only one of this entire group that has any knowledge in combat?”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Only because you’re the one with the father that used to be a knight in Hyrule Castle.”
Jumps to Xena and Valerie – Xena walks off screen to fetch a sword
*Valerie–“Does he still not have a clue that you’re teaching his stuff to others?”
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Yep. My father’s a knight, not a scientist.”
Jumps to Kelsey, who also picks up a sword
*Kelsey–“Yeah. We can leave that role to the creepy guy who brings medicine to our village every month.”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“Honestly, I’ve never seen a guy’s eyes change color over the thought of frog’s eyeballs.”
Xena makes a gagging sound (eyes squinted, tongue out, the whole deal! ^_^)
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Come on, guys. We only have so many hours in a day.”
Continues to speak as he puts the quiver down and picks up a sword
*Sean–“Now. Watch closely.”
Sean performs one of TP Link’s “secret moves” on the dummy (we’ll decide which one) – jumps to front view of all three girls, who gasp – jumps back to Sean, who stands up
*Sean–“I told you it would amaze you. This is a very special trick that took my father a month to master. It took me the same amount of time. That’s why I waited until now to show you.”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“But what’s so special about it? It doesn’t even look that hard.”
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Back when my father was only a knight in training, their commander had a historian visit them. This historian was surprisingly athletic and when he arrived, before even saying a word, he did this move right before their very eyes. He even shocked the commander. He explained that the move came with a legend.”
Jumps to Valerie, who now has a sword strapped to her back
*Valerie–“What does the legend say?”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“Legend says that this move was once used by the hero of time to defeat his enemies. In fact, he was the only one who could do it.”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“Link? No way.”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“Oh yes. The historian let the commander and his knights attempt the move. But none could master it. The historian explained that it took him exactly one month to master the trick. So one month later, when the commander and most of his knights had given up, Father was trying and trying. Then…just as his spirit was beginning to fail, he did it.”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“He did the trick?”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“He didn’t just do it. He mastered it.”
Camera shows each girl one by one, staring with wonder – jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“So the trick got passed down from the historian, to my father and a few fellow knights, to me. Now I’m passing it to you.”
Jumps to Valerie
*Valerie–“Wait. Link couldn’t have been the only one who could do the trick. If he was, how did the historian learn it?”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“Good question. The historian explained that Link taught the trick to a friend. Then the friend taught another friend. And then another friend learned it. Eventually, through many years, it made its way to the historian. And it took each and every person one month to master the move. Everyone except Link himself.”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“How long did it take him?”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“One day.”
Jumps back to Arielle
*Xena–“What?!”
Jumps back to Sean, who nods
*Sean–“One day. That’s why it will forever be considered to belong to the hero of time.”
Jumps to front view of Valerie – Valerie whispers
*Valerie–“Wow…”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“So you’re saying this move will take us a month to master? I still don’t see why it’s so hard.”
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“It’s hard because it takes courage. This is good because everyone will need to find the courage in themselves at least once in their lives. Why not start searching today? Xena. Why don’t you go first?”
Jumps to Xena, who speaks and walks off screen
*Xena–“Okay then. Here goes nothing I guess.”
Jumps to side view of dummy – Arielle walks into view from right and faces the dummy – jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Go on, Xena. Just do it.”
Jumps back to Xena and dummy – Xena eventually takes a stance with her sword – she waits a second and then attempts to perform the move – ends up falling onto the ground
*Xena–“Ouch! That is hard!”
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“That was a good try, Xena Fear wasn’t a huge problem. But I think you should have put a little more thought into your movements.”
Jumps back to Xena, who stands up and speaks
*Xena–“A little more thought? What do you mean?”
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“I mean you rushed in and dashed through the move. That’s what messed you up the most.”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“Well I being courageous.”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“No. You were being a brute. Just remember. Pure strength and power alone are not always the answer.”
Jumps to Xena, who looks away in thought – eventually stands up and walks off screen – jumps to Sean
*Sean–“(insert Kelsey’s name). Come give it a shot.”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Okay, but don’t expect anything too extraordinary.”
Kelsey walks off screen – jumps to same spot Xena had stood in front of the dummy – Kelsey also walks into view from right – eventually takes a stance – tries and fails – lands on ground similar to Xena.
*Kelsey–“Ooff!”
Sean’s voice sound from off screen and Kelsey looks toward him
*Sean–“That was really close, Kelsey. You had courage. But the move itself is hard, too. It just takes practice.”
Kelsey smiles and nods and walks off screen – jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Val?”
Jumps to side view of dummy and Valerie walks into view
*Valerie–“Yeah, yeah. I’m next.”
Takes stance and attempts – fails and lands on back – jumps to her view looking straight into the sky – Sean’s face pops in from side and looks straight down at her
*Sean–“That was okay too. You were a little tense, though. Ease up.”
Jumps to overhead view of Valerie lying on ground
*Valerie–“Okay. This move is really tough. Are you sure it takes exactly one month?”
Jumps back Valerie’s view of Sean overhead
*Sean–“Only if you work at it daily.”
Jumps back to overhead view of Valerie
*Valerie–“No problem.”
Valerie stands up – camera jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Well I think that’s enough training for today.”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“What?! But we just started!”
Jumps to Sean
*Sean–“Admit it, Xena. You’re tired. We’re all tired.”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Why is that?”
Jumps back to Sean
*Sean–“The move takes courage as well as energy. Repeating it can drain you quickly. You’re welcome to keep practicing. I just wanted to warn you. Now. I’m off. I have chores to do back home.”
Sean walks past the girls and into the trees, toward the village – jumps to Xena
*Xena–“Well I have nothing to do.”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Me neither. You want to go down to the lake? We can relax and soak our feet.”
Jumps to Xena
*Xena–“Sounds good. Let’s go.”
Xena turns to leave as Kelsey walks past in background – Xena stops and looks toward camera – jumps to back view of Valerie staring at dummy – jumps back to Xena
*Xena–“Valerie. Aren’t you coming?”
Jumps back to Valerie, who turns
*Valerie–“Huh? Oh. Yeah! I’m coming!”
Valerie runs off screen – scene jumps to close-up of water – fish shadow eventually swims by – Kelsey’s voice sounds form off screen
*Kelsey–“So who do you think you’re betrothed to?”
*Xena–“I don’t have a clue. Valerie?”
*Valerie–“I don’t want to know.”
Camera jumps to far off front view of girls sitting on edge of lake, all are bare foot (zooms in slowly as they speak)
*Xena–“Well you have to find out some time.”
*Valerie–“Not if I leave first.”
*Kelsey–“Oh Val, not this again!”
Jumps to front view of Valerie with the lake to her side (lake is to the right)
*Valerie–“Well I’m going to! Eventually…”
Jumps to front view of Kelsey with the lake to her side also (to the left)
*Kelsey–“That’s the thing. You keep saying you’re going to leave but you never do. It’s getting tired, Val.”
Jumps to front view of Valerie, who looks away angrily – jumps to side view of Arielle, facing the lake with her feet in the water
*Xena–“Hey guys. You don’t think I’m…a brute, do you?”
Jumps to Valerie
*Valerie–“Yes.”
Xena’s fist comes from off screen and punches Valerie in the arm
*Valerie–“Ouch! See?!”
Jumps to side view of Xena, who looks surprised and looks down at her fist – jumps to front view of Kelsey
*Kelsey–“(insert Sean’s name) said I’m courageous. But I don’t feel like it most of the time.”
Jumps to side view of Xena
*Xena–“Why not?”
Jumps back to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Well…I keep remembering that day. When raiders came into our village. I hid. I wasn’t courageous at all.”
Jumps to side view of Xena
*Xena–“Well neither was I. Nor the entire village! No one was prepared, no one could fight back. Now I’m not as extreme as Val, but I became angry when no one bothered to make any changes after that day. That’s why I’m glad (insert shaun’s name) offered to teach us how to fight. That’s why you agreed to learn too, isn’t it?”
Jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Yeah…”
Jumps back to Xena
*Xena–“Right! We’re all learning to fight back! And to defend ourselves. If you ask me, that’s pretty courageous.”
Jumps to Kelsey, who smiles – jumps back to Xena, who turns to Valerie
*Xena–“Isn’t that right, Val? Aren’t we being courageous?”
Valerie nods
*Valerie–“Yep!”
Xena turns back to Kelsey
*Xena–“Yeah! If we ever get attacked again, we’ll be ready!”
Jumps to side view of Valerie, who holds a tired smile – her own thoughts echo
*Valerie–“We’ll be ready…”
White flash to glinting sword and woman’s voice (Valerie’s mother)
*woman’s voice–“Valerie!!”
White flash back to present – Valerie gets a horrified look for a second, then leaves off screen – jumps to side view of Xena, who looks back to Valerie
*Xena–“Val! Where are you going?”
Jumps to back view of Valerie walking toward the woods
*Valerie–“I’m going home.”
Jumps back to Xena
*Xena–“Val!”
Xena rolls her eyes, moans, and gets up and runs off screen – jumps to front view of Kelsey
*Kelsey–“Wait! I’m coming too!”
Kelsey stands up and runs off screen – jumps to front view of Valerie walking through woods toward village – Xena’s and Kelsey’s voices sound from behind her
*Xena–“Val!”
*Kelsey–“Val!”
*Xena–“Valerie, wait up!”
Xena and Kelsey appear from behind and walk by Valerie’s sides
*Valerie–“You didn’t have to follow me.”
*Xena–“Just tell us what’s wrong!”
*Valerie–“I’m seeing the memories again. It seems like they come to me even when the lightest breeze touches me. I think something’s traveling through the air.”
*Kelsey–“Like what? Val, maybe you’re just having a relapse.”
*Valerie–“I can swear to you, guys! That’s not the problem!”
*Xena–“Then what else could it be?”
*Valerie–“I don’t know!”
Rustling sounds from overhead – girls stop immediately as a figure falls from the tree tops – they gasp and look down – camera jumps to over head view of a boy (shadow link!! ^_^) on the ground – eventually jumps to close-up of boy’s side, covered in blood, which is already forming a puddle – jumps to Kelsey
*Kelsey–“I’ll go get help!”
Kelsey runs off screen – camera jumps to Xena and Valerie, staring down at the boy – jumps to overhead view of the boy’s face – Valerie speaks from off screen
*Valerie–“He’s from the outside…”
