I ran full speed down the empty hallway. I zoomed down the creeky old stairs two at a time. I flung the front door open and froze when I entered the cold outdoors. I hadn't thought of my destination. Where was I going to go when I didn't even know where I was? I spun around to face the towering building behind me and began backing into the street, to see if there was a name on the front of this building. I stopped in the middle of the street, not bothering to pay attention to the passing cars who swerved evey which way to avoid hitting me. There was no name on the facade of the brick building that loomed before me now. It looked like there had been a name there before; for there were faded letters printed just in the middle of the buildings many floors.
Suddenly, a car horn blasted, knocking me out of my reverie. I jumped and stared in horror as the black Chevrolet came ever closer, not turning as all others did. The passenger side door opened and I was pulled into the car by some unknown force!
I gasped and nearly screamed, but I kept my nerves steady. A man dressed in black jeans and shirt told me to shut the door. Well, he kind of yelled the order. I did so. "Put your seatbelt on, Guinevere." He said this more calmly. As if in a trance, I did as he asked. He wore dark shades and didn't look in my direction as he sped on. His muscles bulged out of the sleeves of his ebony black T-shirt. I felt awkward and shy. Why? This man is a kidnapper! What right did he have to pull me into his car like that? The stranger smirked as if he knew my thoughts. "Relax, Gwen. Your father sent me." He said in a teasing note.
I was stunned into silence. My father? How did he know my father?! How did my father know him? How did my father know where I was? I gave myself a violent mental shake of the head and tried to calm myself. I can't believe my life was turning out like this. I stared at the stranger. I felt I could trust him, after all, he did know my father. Well, he claimed he did. Suddenly, the stranger veered the car sharply to the right and turned onto an exit. "Get down and stay down," He commanded me. I slid low in my seat, as low as the seatbelt would let me, anyway. "What's going on?" I asked him as I felt him weaving in and out of passing cars.
"We're being followed. I don't know how many are in the van, but I bet you there are about two or three." I had a sinking feeling I knew who the chasers were. I hoped he would get us away from them. I so did not want to plunge into holy matrimony with a creepy guy in robes who smelled of oranges, strangely enough.
"Hang on, Gwen!" He yelled suddenly. I wondered why. We were speeding along just fine on solid ground. It wasn't as if we were gonna take off into the air. I screamed as I felt the impact of another car-the van-crashing pell-mell into the side of the Chevrolet. The car rolled over several times. I felt hands around my waist. I struggled blindly as I was lifted into the air by the enemy,
