• "Here's a good one: Why is a raven like a writing desk?" i heard my father shout from downstairs. I was half asleep clutching my beloved stuffed rabbit. My father very much enjoyed coming up with strange riddles like the one he had just shouted. I almost fell back asleep before I heard glass shattering and my mother screaming. "Alice get out of the house!" my father shouted. i stood up from my bed and opened my bedroom door only to be met by large flames. "MOTHER! FATHER!" I shouted. "GET OUT ALICE!!!" My mother shouted. I saw my cat Dinah jump up onto the railing and up into my room. "Oh Dinah what ever will we do?" I cried. I grabbed Dinah and my rabbit and opened my window. i was scared to jump as I was on the second floor and had such a small body. I feared I would break easily. "It's the only way Dinah," I told my cat as if she understood me. I threw Dinah down to the snowy floor, knowing she would land on her feet. I sat on the window sill with tears in my eyes. "Mother...father..." I jumped to the floor and landed hard. I stared at the burning house as everything went black.
