Skylardidn't know that was her last day with her family.
It started out a little differently than most days, but only because it was her younger brothers second birthday. At the time, Sky was only six, and the worst thing in her life was that she couldn't find her Hello Kitty doll. Only to find that in a few hours, her life would be permanently ruined. And her destiny will began to unfold.
"Mommy, when are we going to have cake?" the girl asked, walking over to her parents. Her mother was very pretty, with long black hair and large brown eyes. There were no freckles on her face, or really anything to damage her smooth, olive-like skin. As for her father, he was much more masculine, with shaggy blonde hair and dark blue eyes. His skin was also smooth, and Skylar and her brother were lucky enough to inherit it.
"When Samuel wakes up from his nap," Mrs. Young promised, though it only caused the daughter to groan.
    "He takes forever though!"
    "You do too, missy."
    "I don't nap!"
Of course, this was a lie. Sky was a little crabby because she hadn't had a nap yet, and all because she wanted cake. Her mother offered her to sleep as well, and that she'll be woken up when Sam did, but Skylar wouldn't take it. Instead, she crawled on her fathers lap and dug her head in his chest.
His presence was comforting, as the old man wrapped his arms around his daughter and begun to hum an old lullaby. It wasn't long until snoring could be heard from the young girl, fast asleep. The parents exchanged a smirk.

When Sky woke up, she was on her fathers lap, but now at the family table. The drowsy child eyed her two year old brother, who was delighted with the spoon in his hand. He chewed on it, his blue eyes twinkling with youth and wonder. Mrs. Young caught him though and removed the spoon, which only lead to crying until she had convinced him that cake was more delicious. Sam ate it with his hands.
Finally being given a slice, Skylar said a quick 'thank-you' before she grabbed a fork and dug it into the pastry. It would've went straight to her mouth if it wasn't for the doorbell ringing. Her father had to get up, which gave a complaint from both Sky and her mother.
"We weren't expecting anyone, its probably just the cable guy," she called over her shoulder, trying to get her husband to come back to the table. But it was too late, the door was opening already, and the light mood earlier was gone. With something different..
    Fear. Darkness. Pain.
Not understanding the grave face from her mother, Skylar turned her body to look over at her father, whose face was hidden from hers. But his back was tense, his hand clenching to the door knob. It made the six year old scared to see her daddy this way.
The intruders face was hidden, in a mask that was bloody red. A weird smile was engraved on it, and a laughter came from behind the facial gear. But that's not what spooked the girl, it was the claws on his hands, as they reached out to her dad.
    "Daddy!"
Before it could slice her father in half, another form was in front of her father. It took Skylar a few seconds before noticing it was her mother, not in her sweats like earlier but in a slick armor like things. She had a dagger in her hand, and a club in another. Mrs. Young tried to make her own slice on the man, but she was too slow, as the thing darted into the house and attacked her from behind.
Mr. Young, now in slick armor as well, slammed a sword down on the masked-mans out stretched hand, as it fell off like butter. The sword seemed like a butchers, but it was still surprising to see it go off so quickly. Maybe it was because of the blue lightning that circled it, maybe the man was just weak. But either way, before her father could even smile, a new one grew, resembling a sword.
"Valerie!" he shouted before starting combat with the visitor and his sword arm.
Mrs. Young nodded, already knowing what to come next, and ran over to Sam who had been left in his high chair. The boy still absorbed in the cake, unlike his sister. She picked him up before joining Skys side and lifting her out of her chair as well.
"Hurry, hurry," she urged as her daughter fumbled for footing before chasing her mother to the kitchen. She whirled to the stairs, pausing to let her daughter catch up and go in front of her, before racing up. All the while, Samuel cried, "Cake, cake cake!"
Reaching the top, Skylar hesitated before feeling her mother pushing her to the left- where the bathroom was. They reached it just as they heard a scream downstairs. It was her dad.
"Dad--" Skylar was cut off from her shout by her mothers hand.
"Don't talk! Its dangerous!" she warned before pushing Sky into the bathtub. Skylar sat, obediently, numb with worry. She had never heard her father scream before.. As well, the daughter didn't question her mother, she was too frighten to ask what was going on. Too scared to find out.
Mrs. Young handed Skylar her brother, telling her to keep him safe. The sister sat him besides her, opening her mouth to ask what was going on but her mother shook her head. 'No time' she mouthed, in which Sky only barely understood. She was horrible with mouth reading. Yanking her up, Mrs. Young practically ran to the door before stopping and letting go of her daughters hand.
"Skylar Young, I want you to lock that door when I leave. Do you promise?"
    "I promise mommy."
"You know I love you, whatever happens I love you so much, and I'll always been with you. Keep your brother quiet and don't make a sound." She paused to unlatch her locket and quickly lock it onto Skys neck. The girl glanced down in wonder, it had pictures of both her mother and father, when they were dating. Obviously, it was very old.
    "Are you leaving me?"
    "Never."
With that the door slammed shut, leaving the girl stunned. She had too many things to ask to follow orders, and opened the door again to confront her mother only to see blood on the carpet. Her mothers body slammed against the wall...
And the masked man standing in front of her. Drenched in the blood of her parents.
