I slumped against the car door, my forehead pressed into the cool surface of the window. My eyes scanned the foggy images outside. Trees whipped by, giving the impression of green streaks.
I lifted a finger to draw a smiley face. Once I was done.
"Maddy, are you excited?" my mother, Vicky asked. I lifted my hazel eyes towards my mother's brown ones. "Yes," I answered truthfully.
It was a happy experience, I would get to see my bestfriend. Zack had moved when we were in third grade. Vicky had once said, it was a miracle that I even remembered Zack's name. But I knew I'd never forget that blonde haired boy.
He had left an impression on me. Blue eyes always looking into mine hazel eyes, pouty lips constantly smiling at me. I had missed him, and for the most part, I'd hoped he'd missed me.
"Then, why the long face?" Vicky questioned, her eyes glancing sideways towards me. When I had found out about Zack moving back. I was ecstatic. . . But then thoughts flooded in. What if he would resent being back here? He surely had a life back in Detroit.
"Just nervous," I replied. I fingered my seatbelt in boredom. I wonder what he looks like? I thought. Vicky still had some pictures of us when we were younger, I'd looked at those, He was a short blonde haired sweetheart.
In the pictures, he wore the schools usual uniforms, which consisted of black shorts with a white shirt and black tie. My uniform mirrored his, except for the black skirt and knee high socks. I smiled, in my mind eye's I saw two childhood best friends.
"Damn rain," Vicky cursed as she quickly stole a parking spot from an elderly couple. "That was mean," I commented as the elderly couple shot them a glare before going off to search for another parking spot.
"We're late" was her only excuse as she pulled up the hood to her wind breaker. I unbuckled my seat belt and hopped out off the car. My boots squeaked all the way to the airport entrance, I brushed rain off my cheeks and chin.
I'd forgotten to pull up my hood. Put it didn't matter, I had caught sight of Zach's mother searching the crowd. "Beth!" Vicky shouted, waving her arms like a demented bird. I watched as the blonde haired women hurried towards them.
"Vicky! Oh, Madison! Look how big you got!" Beth gasped, she hugged me then Vicky. I looked around as Vicky and Beth talked. I searched the crowd for a blonde haired boy. I caught a few but non of them approached me.
"Zack!" Beth yelped over the crowd, she quickly grabbed a black haired boy's arm. "You're so rude, say hello," Beth ordered, glaring at the boy. He rolled his blue eyes. "Hello Vicky," Vicky nodded. He turn towards me.
I stared, and at the time, it felt as if my mouth was hanging open. "Z-zack?" I hesitated, "In the flesh," He replied, retuning half of his attention to his Ipod screen. Green streaked his black hair, while blue tipped the spiky ends.
His once slightly tanned skinned held none, he looked if he spent most of his time sleeping in a coffin. "Y-you look. . . Different?" I mumbled. "And you look the same," He replied scratching at the dog collar around his neck.
I glared. I did not look the same, I was in fact sixteen, I had allowed my hair to grow longer. I'd. . . Grown a pathetic excuse of a chest. And he didn't need to know, I'd thought that.
"Zack, grab your bag. We've got to get going if we're going to get settled at the Walker's!" Beth chirped. Her snappy son shrugged and grabbed a suite case. I grabbed a reasonable size suite case. I slowed so I was behind Zack. He short hair ended at the mid of his frim neck. His broad shoulders still visible under the baggy light jacket.
He was tall. Maybe a foot taller then me. He stopped abruptly to lift the suite case into the trunk, I bite my lip as he glance towards me, his blue eyes growing icy as he stared pass me. I glance behind me to see a tall pale skinned guy standing a few feet away.
His amber eyes stared straight at me. I felt my face flush as I looked away to see that Zack stood in front of me. I'd practically ran into his arms. He wrapped an arm around my torso and steered me towards the car door.
"Now that's a gentlemen" Vicky said smiling. If it was possible, my face was as red as a tomato. I quickly clicked my seatbelt into place. I kept my eyes on the ground as Zack climbed into the seat on the other side.
