• “Guardian Angel”

BAM! The explosion fired off in the distance. It hit my car and flipped it fifteen feet in the air and caused it to roll twice before stopping in the intersection of a major highway. I knew I was being followed but I didn’t expect it to be like this. I didn’t realize I had a stalker and nothing could have prepared me for what was to come. As my head continued to bleed the images become fuzzy and a man approached and asked if I was okay.
“Huh?” I muttered. I was in shock and I was shaking. The man tried to free me from the car but another man approached and opened fire on the man helping me. That harmless man fell to the ground dead. My stalker opened fire on me but for some reason the bullets didn’t hit me but they hit the ground instead. I was different from other people, I had powers that I didn’t know I had. One of my powers being a force field that would protect me from harm. My stalker had a name and I didn’t care to find out. Luckily the cops showed up and shot the stalker and freed me from the car. I was nearly dead and there was nothing they could do for me. My other problem aside from being different was I healed quickly. The only wounds I couldn’t heal were head wounds. They healed on their own but at a faster rate. Some would say I wasn’t human, others would say I was a fallen angel but I knew what I was. I knew I had found my one when he walked into the room. He was visiting other patents at the hospital when he stumbled upon my room.
    “Sorry, wrong room number...”
“Don’t go….Please don’t go.” I said in my angelic voice and something made him stop and look back. He smiled and I smiled back.
“My name is Sabre, what’s yours?” He asked in a velvetly voice.
“Sophie. Have we met before because I swear I’ve seen you before.” Sabre looked at me again and smiled bigger.
“We went to school together I think, is your last name Moral?” I shook my head as if to say no.
“Im not from around here, but I still think I’ve seen you somewhere before. I remember those eyes from somewhere. Maybe from a past life or something. You know my name used to be Isabel, was yours Andrew? Oh who am I kidding, I’m making myself sound crazy. Have a nice day Sabre.” I muttered and looked down.
“You have a wonderful day Sophie. Hopefully I see you around.”, he laughed and walked away. I cried. I almost blew my cover. I was a guardian angel. I was his guardian angel and he didn’t even know it. Don’t get involved Sophie. You know your orders. You’re here on Earth for one reason, protect your charge and get back as soon as possible. The Elders whispered. It was too late to not get involved. He was my charge and I was to protect him. That’s what I was created for. I was supposed to protect and follow him. There were others like me out there, all I had to do was look. I whispered into the air while looking at the ceiling . “Is he my charge?” Yes, but it is forbidden for the two of you to fall in love. So don’t even get involved or we will pull you right back to where you belong, and we will put another guardian angel in your place. Are we clear? “Unde” I muttered in their language. It meant yes and in some parts of the upper regions it meant no.
I was out of the hospital within a few days and I caught up with Sabre and I kept my distance. My worst fears were coming true. Sabre had a stalker like me. My stalker knew that what I was and tried to end my life, Sabre on the other hand was human. So the love that I felt for him was forbidden, but sometimes rules were meant to be broken. Sabre saw me out in the distance and ran up to meet me. I froze in my tracks, I couldn’t just disappear and reveal what I truly was, so I had no choice but to stay put or walk away almost at a sprint. I went with option one; stay put my mind told me. What are you doing Sophie? The Elders asked. But I didn’t say anything. I only saw him and nobody else. Could this mean I had found my love?
“Hey Sophie! Glad to see that you’re out of the hospital.” I had heard him say. My heart began to hurt and it was the Elders intervening. They had a habit of doing that a lot lately. I look back over my shoulder then turned back to look at Sabre who was smiling.
“I have to go…” I muttered and turned away to move but Sabre reached out to grab my arm.
“Wait…there’s something that I want to ask you.” I just nodded and muttered for him to go on. “Will you go on a date with me? I was thinking about seeing a movie and grabbing a bit to eat after the movie. What do you think about that?” He asked while he pulled out a slip of paper and put it in my hand. “If you want to call me at this number.” He muttered as he leaned in to hug me goodbye for now.
“Sabre… I really do have to go, please be careful on your way home. I don’t want you to end up in the hospital.” I muttered as I turned away to run back to my small two bedroom apartment. It was right down the road but as I almost reached the door I heard the screeching tires of a car about to hit me. I jumped out of the way. “What the ******** is going on?” I asked the Elders but they had no answer. The screeching tires kept coming at me but I kept jumping out of the way at the last minute. The next time I went to reach for the door the screeching tires almost hit me again but at the last second a man pulled me out of the way. We slammed to the ground.
My head hit the ground so hard that it started to bleed slightly. I went to go sit up but the man pushed me back down. It was then that I realized who had saved me. “Sabre?” I muttered through a haze. He pulled out a gun and aimed it at the guy trying to kill me again.
“Get out of the car, put your hand in the air!” He reached in his back pocket and I saw hand-cuffs and a badge. A cop…Wait… an undercover cop…. I thought for a second. I knew there was something more to him than met the eye. The guy trying to kill me was arrested and put in jail. I tried to sit up again but Sabre held me down. My head was still bleeding when he pushed me back down. I was drifting towards that darkness almost to the point where I thought I was dying. When I woke up again, I wasn’t in a hospital. I was in an apartment. I was in his apartment. Get out of there Sophie. You’re this close to getting replaced. The Elders muttered in my ear.
“Sabre?” I muttered into the air. I was heard within a second, there he was smiling that beautiful smile.
“Glad to see you’re awake. Sorry I didn’t take you to the hospital, it was too far away. Hey, what happened to being careful?” he muttered while laughing. I touched the back of my head and it wasn’t bleeding. “Oh, you weren’t bleeding which is very odd because there was blood on the ground…”
“Listen to me Sabre, I have to go. I’m okay and thank you for saving me, but I have to go. I really do. I wish I could tell you everything but there are rules that I live by that I must follow. So I’m sorry to cut this so short but I have to go. I hope you understand. I’ll call you.” I muttered as I grabbed my belongings and ran out the door. I hated myself right now. But I didn’t want to get replaced by another guardian angel. Rules were meant to be broken. I reopened the door and approached him and kissed him goodbye. I knew this would piss the Elders off but I didn’t care anymore. I was here to protect him and he was going to keep me protected. I turned to walk away, but Sabre pulled me in close to kiss me again. “I have to go now…” I muttered and gave him a quick kiss and left back to my apartment where I would face the Elders.
“What the hell were you doing? Did you just get caught up in the moment? Or did you have something else in mind.” The Elders asked. “Look, I didn’t get caught up in the moment, I did it on purpose. Fire me for all I care but if you make me leave now, it’s going to upset Sabre if he never gets to see me again. He’ll spend his whole life searching for a girl by the name of Sophie that doesn’t exist. He’ll never find love again because he will have wasted his life searching. Just let me explain to him what is going on and then I’ll leave if that’s what you want. Like it or not, he saved my life tonight. A mere human saved my life. He’s more than a human and just please let me explain to him who I really am. Please. That’s all I ask of you, my Elders.” I pleaded. “We will review your case and get back to you but in the meantime, keep your distance from this Sabre or you will be replaced. Do we understand each other?” The Elders asked. “Unde” I muttered with tears streaming down my face.
I was given an order and if I wanted to be replaced and never to see Sabre again, then I was to go see him. If I didn’t want to be replaced then I was to lay low. “What if he contacts me?” I asked before they left. “If that happens then you are not to say a word of what you are or what you are doing.” With that they left. I knew Sabre was going to contact me but I didn’t know what I was going to say. I went for a midnight walk. Big mistake, Sabre was waiting on the street corner for me. “What are you, my stalker?” I asked and ran off. I found a park bench and sat down to cry. I couldn’t love him. It was forbidden. I knew he was going to follow me to the park bench. Within five minutes he had found me sitting down. He sat next to me and I cried on his shoulder. It felt nice because for the first time in a long time, I felt like I belonged here.
“It’s okay Sophie, I’ll protect you.” I stopped crying and looked at him with confusion.
“What….what are you talking about?” I asked like an idiot….The Elders were sure to hear about this. I was going to be replaced and there was nothing I could do. The only thing left to do was plead my case with them and hoped that they would understand. We’re coming down right now. You’re done, no more Sabre for you… They whispered. Sabre noticed that I shaking my head. “Sabre… I have to go. I can’t see you anymore. Don’t bother looking for me because I won’t be there. I’m so sorry. I’ll call you. I promise.” I muttered as I ran home to a nearby alley way where I would be followed by not only one stalker but three stalkers. These stalkers knew what I was and knew who I was supposed to protect. I looked over my shoulder where I saw a stalker walking up to Sabre with a gun….I had no choice, I had to disappear and reappear in front of him. It was the only way to save my charge’s life. I disappeared where I was and reappeared in front of Sabre.
His jaw dropped and he nearly fainted but he held it together. “Come with me Sabre, if you want to live.” I muttered to him. He obeyed without a thought. The stalker opened fire on Sabre and I. I used one of my powers to save Sabre as I disappeared and reappeared in my apartment. “We should be safe here for now.” You have no choice but to tell him now. You revealed yourself to him so tell him. After that we’ll wipe his memory and he’ll forget all about you and your stupid self.” I yelled into the air. “IF you WIPE HIS MEMORY THEN YOU’LL HAVE TO WIPE MINE TOO BECAUSE I MADE A CHOICE DAMNIT! I had to save his life, that’s my job is it not? I have three stalkers on my trail. One was after my charge.
Now if you don’t let him keep his memory then I’ll raise so much hell that you’ll wish you’d never been born. Do we have an understanding?” I muttered through the air to where Sabre couldn’t see or hear me. Unde. Was all they said. I turned back to Sabre who was laughing.
“Sabre?” I muttered as I reached out towards him. He didn’t turn away. “I know you must have some questions for me Sabre and I will answer all of them. Go ahead and ask me Sabre.” I laughed because he was still laughing.
“My first question is what the hell are you?” He asked. Before I could continue he was talking again. “I know you’re not human, so what are you? Huh?” He was furious with me. I took him by the shoulders and said two words to him. “Sit down. Please Sabre just listen to me, I need you to sit down before I can continue.” I said quietly in a low voice. Just as I was about to explain everything Sabre stood up again. “Okay fine don’t sit down, whatever all I am trying to do is explain to you what I am. This isn’t going to be easy to understand Sabre so I’ll try to break it down for you step by step. Okay?” I asked. I was starting to lose my temper which would spell disaster. When a guardian angel lost their temper they could actually loose their way and go on a killing rampage and not even know it. It wasn’t uncommon for serial killers to be guardian angels that had lost their temper. I did not want to be one of those serial killers so I tried to keep my cool.
“My question to you Sabre is, do you really want to know what I am? And can you keep a secret?” I asked in a low voice. I was on the verge of crying and he could tell. He just nodded yes to both questions. “Before I begin, what are some of the possiblilites that you think I am?” I asked.
“Well, a demon was the first thing that came to mind but then I was like you couldn’t be a demon because demons don’t save people’s lives. So my next thought was vampire or werewolf….but that couldn’t be it either. I actually have no idea what you are and I would like to find out. There’s something about you that I don’t want to go away. Sophie just please tell me what you are.” He said in that velvetly voice that he always talked in.
“Well I am not a demon, vampire or werewolf. Some would say that I’m a fallen angel, but that’s not even close. The second word is part of what I am. Okay here goes nothing….I am a guardian angel… I know how that may sound but I’m not the typical guardian angel where we can fly. I lost my wings when I was placed on Earth. Like I said from the beginning, I am not from around here. I came from the upper regions where we have rules that we are supposed to follow. I broke rule numbers one and five. Rule number one states “Do not under any circumstances, are you to reveal yourself to any human.” While Rule number five states “Do not get involved with a human, you’re put on Earth for one reason and one reason only, protect your human.” What I’m trying to say is that I’m your guardian angel. Wait, please don’t go. I can prove it to you if you’ll just give the chance.” I muttered through the tears. I wiped them away quickly. His words to me as he walked away ripped my heart out killed it.
“Sophie, stay away from me. I can’t believe what you have just said to me. So I guess that this is goodbye.” He muttered as he walked away and out into the night. Before he walked out the door he turned back and said a few more words to me. “Just forget about me Sophie.” Then the door slammed shut in my face. I sank to the floor crying so hard that I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t know how a mere human could hurt an angel like me. I had done nothing but protect him and he repaid me by breaking my heart. Sophie this is why guardian angels should never get involved. This is what happens every time. We hope you learned your lesson. The Elders whispered through the wind. I yelled at them. “******** YOU” I was beyond upset, I was a mess. I went for a walk again. I kept my distance from Sabre. I didn’t want to lose him forever so I did what he said and I tried to keep my distance.
I was being followed and I knew it. It had to be the stalkers. I didn’t care to look behind me. I ran past Sabre trying to grab his attention. When the stalkers ran past Sabre he began to run after me as if to protect me again. I was still crying to the point where I couldn’t see and I tripped and fell. The stalkers caught up to me and grabbed me by the throat. They were going to kill me and the Elders didn’t bother to help. ******** them, I could take care of myself. I closed my eyes and prepared to die when I heard Sabre yelling. “Let her go or I will shoot.” They opened fire on Sabre who got out of the way just in time. He punched the one holding my throat. The stalker holding my throat threw me against the brick wall. The same stalker opened fire on me, piercing my back, my arm and leg in as little as three shots of the gun. I was losing too much blood and I was going to die within minutes and I couldn’t protect my charge.
Sabre shot all three of the stalkers, killing them all. The bricks began to blur as Sabre approached. He took off his shirt and ripped it in half and then in half again. He tied the torn shirt around my back, arm and leg. Then he picked me up and carried me away to the apartment. My healing powers were already kicking in but Sabre didn’t know it. I awoke in my apartment again. Sabre was watching me sleep or something because when I woke up he was standing over me. I sat up too quickly and felt dizzy. Sabre laughed. “What’s so funny? I thought you never wanted to see me again, what happened to forgetting about me?” I asked. I was confused, and Sabre burst out laughing again.
“Well, for a guardian angel, you sure do need a lot of protecting. You saved my life, I saved yours.” He laughed. He looked down at me ankle and noticed the dragon tattoo that I had. “Nice tattoo Sophie.” He smiled. I couldn’t help but smile back. I was falling in love with him and I had to stop before I was going to be replaced. “Sabre, we can’t be together… It’s forbidden.” I muttered. Sabre just came close and kissed me. I kissed him back. I was in way over my head and I didn’t give a care because I knew he loved me and I loved him back. The Elders appeared behind Sabre and I pulled him behind me.
“Sophie you have broken the rules one too many times and I am sorry to say but you’re going to be replaced. You will forget about him and he will forget about you too. I’ll give you ten minutes to say goodbye.” The Elders left.
“Replaced? What does that mean Sophie and who were those people?” Sabre asked in a heartbroken voice.
“Sabre, replaced means that I will never get to see you again. They’re going to try to wipe my memory of you and they will do the same to you so you can forget about….” I broke off crying and I turned away from Sabre so he wouldn’t have to see me cry. I turned back to him and finished what I had to say. “Sabre if you fight it you will never forget me. If you don’t then you will forget immediately. Sabre I love you. I have been meaning to tell you but I just couldn’t find the words.” I smiled then looked down.
“Can’t you fight it Sophie? Can’t you fight your case? Is there a way?” he asked… when I said nothing he asked again. “Is there a way?” I nodded but tried to explain.
“There is a way but that would require me killing the Elders and if I do that a bounty will be out for my death and the stalkers will come from miles just to kill me and they won’t stop until I’m dead. There is one other way. I would have to make you a guardian angel but to do that I would have to kill you then bring you back but that doesn’t always work. Sometimes the guardian angels like me cant heal others but we can heal ourselves… Sabre I can’t lose you.” I muttered. Sabre looked me in the eye and muttered two words..
“Kill me.” I shook my head. I couldn’t kill the one I loved with a possibility of him not coming back. “Sophie I need you to kill me and bring me back. I believe in you Sophie. Sophie I love you. Take this and shoot me. “ He muttered and he was being serious and I closed my eyes for a minute opened them with tears streaming down my face as I pulled the trigger. I caught him as he fell. My clothes were blood soaked as I tried to heal him. My powers weren’t working and I yelled at the sky to the Elders.
“YOU BETTER LET ME HEAL HIM OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY DAMNIT” My powers kicked in and I started to heal him but it was too late. He was already gone. I was too late. I saw his spirit and I grabbed his hand and led him to where he was meant to go. He was always meant to go to heaven. I led him to the Elders who had to think things over with the upper regions. If Sabre didn’t come back as a guardian angel then it would be all my fault. I was sent back to Earth to wait things out. I returned to my apartment where I saw Sabre’s body I held it close as I burst into tears. I killed the one I loved and now there was a chance that he wouldn’t come back. That he would be gone forever. I was being summoned by the Elders.
I appeared in front of them with tear filled eyes. Sabre rushed over to me. I was confused , why was Sabre still here in the Elder’s office? Could it be true? Did they really decide to make him a guardian angel? “Do you know why you’re being summoned Sophie of the Upper Regions?” I shook my head. “You’re being summoned because Sabre has become a guardian angel. Your love for him is no longer forbidden. You may leave with Sabre now. “ The Elders muttered. I took Sabre’s hand and led him back to my apartment. I kissed him passionately and closed my eyes. Sabre’s body was no longer there instead he stood in front of me in the flesh. I smiled and kissed him again.
Five years later we were happily married. I was carrying twins and they were due in about a month. Sabre was out and about but when I was about to give birth…He showed up and took me by the hand to the car and transported the entire car to the hospital where I gave birth twins. A boy and a girl. Izebella and Brooke. Brooke grew up where she married to a man by the name of Anthony, and Izebella turned to be a guardian angel like Sabre and myself. She still has a lot to learn but one day she’ll find love.
