• I have been having a reoccurring dream lately that has become increasingly more vivid every time I sleep. Today was the first time that I could remember the dream well enough that I could record it.
The dreams starts innocently enough with a slow tumultuous boat ride through a backwater bayou and it is infinite the water leads everywhere. The boat itself is a rusted barge that has no crew as far as I can tell we are drifting on the current. I am not alone on this boat; there are two men and three women they seem to know each other and they know me. There is little reason but I find the waters the most unnerving during my slumber; the current is filthy an orange film like rust covers the top layer of it. The others do not seem to notice for occasionally they will try to swim in the waters. It is obvious that they do not see what is wrong for they are confused when I tell them not to go near the water. I know it is a dream but there is an urge to save them. I do not know when it happens for it seems to take longer and longer to reach the docks each time.

Though it is not truly a dock it is more of a makeshift barrier created by the rusted hulls of two ships that are strikingly similar to our own. On either side of us there are two docks made of rotted wood the waters are eating away at it. Men come on board our boat I do not know if something is wrong the others do not look frightened. They separate us into different groups. It is always seemingly random and I have been on either side but what happens next always occurs. The water in front of us begins to bubble and churn. A whirlpool is forming sucking and spewing it is raining the orange rust and filth on us. It burns I know it does but my voice cannot be heard. Not over the screams from the water.

It is a serpent unlike anything I have ever seen; it is massive towering over us all we are in its shadow. I know that death will come soon. The writhing mass of putrid flesh that makes up its body is revolting. Spikes protrude from its hide and down the length of it into the water. Huge empty sockets but no eyes they are empty and bleeding the orange rust the face is a mixture of an angler fish and a human baby. We are staring and not running I know that it is a dream but I cannot run I cannot move. I am no longer in control and its jaw unhinges. The entire creature opens it is one huge mouth the spikes were simply teeth protruding from its hide. I can still hear the scream.

I close my eyes or at least I think that is what happens for only a moment later it is over. Sometimes I die in this instance and I wake up in my bed. I only wished that this happened every time. I wish that I did not open them for the sight that appears before is almost equal to the last. They are dead and they are everywhere. The men and the people I came with are mutilated in ways that the serpent could not have caused there flesh is flayed and it looks as though they had been pulled apart. There are pieces enough left at least enough for a grave. Everything around me is dead except for one there is always one left from the boat we arrive on.

It is near the end of the dream at least where it stops for me. The call of the water is too great it looks too serene and beautiful. I am covered in filth and blood I need to wash it off of me. In the last moments of the dream I can see what lurks beneath the water.
