A Daughter's Sorrow
By: Mary Crystal Conley
A young girl with long, tangled up silver hair and golden eyes sat in front of a grave, holding a key to her heart. This girls name was Scarlet, and the grave she was in front of was her mothers. Scarlet was only ten years young, her mother had died when she was seven. Scarlet was an only child, she had only her father now.
Scarlet was dressed in rags, the only thing on her that looked to have actual value was the silver key necklace she was holding to her heart. Scarlet lived on the streets with her father, Robin. Her mother, Janet, had died from a fight, she had been stabbed in the heart. Luckily, her mother had been buried in a proper grave in a proper grave yard.
Janet had been buried in her wedding dress that was really just a short white sun dress that she had found, her wedding ring that Robin had stolen for her, and her silver heart necklace that Scarlet had seen in a shop window on sale along with the silver key necklace. Scarlet had gone into the store and had begged the store owner to save the necklace set for her, he gave her them for free, feeling bad for her once he found out she lived on the streets. Scarlet had given her mother the heart necklace and she kept the key necklace. Neither of them ever took the necklaces off, ever.
Scarlet came to her mothers grave every single day and prayed for her to come back. Every night she stayed up till 11:11 just to make this wish inside her head, 'My only wish in the world is for my mother to come back to life.' She would look up at the night sky almost all night each night, hoping for a shooting star. One night Scarlet had decided to stay by her mothers grave all night.
She looked up at the night sky and closed her eyes to pray. "Dear god, I would give my life away just to see my mother smile again, to feel the warmth in her arms at least one more time....I miss her, I love her, I need her more than any thing else in this world....please...bring her back....Amen." She said as she opened her eyes to look up at the sky more. Little did she know, it had just struck 11:11, and right before her eyes, she saw a shooting star. She quickly made her wish.
Once the star had passed she closed her eyes and layed down on the cold, soft grass. "Please, come back..." She said to herself softly as she started to cry quietly to herself. She slowly cried herself to sleep. Morning arrived and she opened her eyes to the bright sun light.
She awoke to the loud noises of a shaking tree. She sat up and rubbed her eyes as she looked over at the tree. Her eyes widened as she saw a female with short silver hair and golden eyes. She was wearing a short white summer dress, a wedding ring, and a silver heart necklace. "Mommy...." Scarlet said softly as she ran over to the woman, hugged her tight, and cried into her chest.
"It's okay, Scarlet, mommy's here now..." The woman said happily.
