Beyond Time and Space
Episode 8 - Reborn
---
As the blade of the Fisherman drew ever so close to Daniel’s neck, time seemed to slow down even further than before, although he wasn’t aware of it since his eyes were closed out of sheer terror of death slowly approaching. Without realizing it, the watch on his arm had begun to spin wildly and give off its trademark blue hue as it did once before. Faster and faster it spun until time stopped all together. Nothing was moving…not the sword, not Rachael, not even the dust rustling in the wind. Only one thing moved. Daniel’s eyes began to open again, however, this time they gave off the same distinctive blue hue that the watch has. Taking a look at his surroundings and at how time had stopped, he gave a mischievous grin and finally spoke in a deeper, more sinister tone, “Pitiful humans…” Something had definitely changed within him.

Taking a quick glance at the watch, the mysterious entity noticed that a countdown was taking place. “25…24…23…” Then speaking aloud, knowing that the others couldn’t hear him, “Damnit…I’m not as powerful as I once was. If I move from this spot, time could start back up again.” Raising an eyebrow to his current situation, he quickly thought of how he could avoid the incoming blade. “I’ll have to be quick…” he said to himself as he clinched his right fist as if he was gathering energy into it. Then, all in one motion, he thrust his right palm toward the blade that was frozen in place and yelled, “Dimensional Barrier!!!” At that very moment however, time unfroze and the sword continued on its killing path. Unfortunately, it was now blocked by a large, hexagonal shaped barrier which stood between him and the Fisherman. Seeing that his plan was successful, the mysterious entity gave another sinister grin while easily being able to stop the blade in its tracks.

Almost in synchronization, both the Fisherman and Rachael exclaimed, “WHAT?!” However, it was an obvious reaction. It’s not everyday you see 10-foot tall transparent hexagon appear out of nowhere. Also, it may have taken place over a series of 30 seconds for him, but for the Fisherman and Rachael, they only happened to witness a split second of what happened. Amidst all the confusion, the Fisherman decided to speak while still trying to break through the barrier. “H-How did you do that? No other Divers I’ve seen before are able to create defensive shields for their users.” Still holding him back with his open palm, the entity responded, “What makes you think I am like other Divers? This boy’s body may be weak, but I still have ample enough power to defeat the likes of you.” His eyes widening a bit at that remark, the Fisherman remarked, “You mean to say that you share the body of the boy I spoke to earlier?” Angrily responding back, he said, “Argh! I was forced to share this body with him…trapped within the Diver for eons. However, I must thank him. Without the boy’s life force, I may have disappeared in a few thousand years.” Annoyed at all the confusion the entity was placing on him, the Fisherman replied back, “It doesn’t matter what your story is, if you are a Diver of the Syndicate, then you will die at my hands!” Chuckling lightly at his threats, the entity calmly responded with, “Tch…so be it mercenary. This ghost town will be your resting place!” After saying those words, he pushed his right arm out, thrusting the barrier in the Fisherman’s direction attempting to crush him under its weight.

Seeing the large barrier falling over on top of him, the Fisherman quickly broke his stance away from it and ran to the nearest point to where he could clearly escape its wrath. Fortunately for him, his speed seemed to help out with that, and he was able to dive out of the way just as the barrier crashed to the ground below, and crushing half of an already broken down house in its path. While he was recovering from the last second dive out of the way, the entity turned to Rachael and said, “You…human girl, get somewhere safe.” Not even seeming to care that he didn’t know her name anymore, she simply nodded her head as she ran near the edge of the village where she could still witness the two fighting each other. “Daniel…what’s happened to you?” she thought to herself as she continued to watch the fight from a distance.

Kneeling on the ground, with his sword stuck in the dirt, the Fisherman watched as the same boy he saw earlier had changed so drastically in a matter of seconds. “Who is this kid? He just told me that he had no idea how to use the Diver, and what’s with the sudden change in personality? Ugh…no matter…” He then picked himself up off the ground and ran toward the entity once again. Quickly slashing away with his sword in the same manner as he did before, not wild in any way. The Fisherman was in perfect form as he continued to miss his target…slash after slash. “What the hell is going on?” “Mwhahaha! You dare challenge a master of time and space to a match of speed? You humans are so simple minded to see what is all around you. I’m slowing down time as we speak, this is so easy…I’m starting to get bored.” The entity said aloud as he continued to effortlessly dodge every single attack that was thrown at him. After a couple more seconds of the same hacking and slashing, he became increasingly annoyed at the Fisherman’s attempts to defeat him. “Time to end this…” he said as he effortlessly knocked the sword out of the Fisherman’s hand by kicking it up into the air. Now disarmed, the entity quickly spun around and kicked the Fisherman directly in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him and onto the ground. Then eyeing the sword that had finally hit the ground, the entity gave that sinister smile yet again.

Picking the sword off the ground and pointing the blade at the Fisherman on the ground, the entity prepared for his final strike. “Your mercenary days are ove…ugh…ugh…what’s…happening to me?” The entity said as he dropped the sword beside him and fell to the ground in pain. “Argh! My time is up already?! This host body is so weak!” he said as he grasped the watch. Then sitting up, still gasping for air, the Fisherman called out, “Wait! Who are you? What are you?” Glancing back at his adversary with a look of hate in his still blue eyes, he responded, “Know my name, and remember it well mercenary. For the next time you wake me, I will kill you! I…am…Zolgear…” With those final words, the blue hue from his eyes vanished, the Diver had stopped spinning, and Daniel fell to the dirt road, exhausted.

To be continued...
