Beyond Time and Space
Episode 9 - Casting a Counterattack
---
Mwhahaha!!! Look at them run brother. Their pitiful weapons are no match for our strength,” a deep sinister voice said, “Why do you insist on studying these beings? They are inferior. Join me in their destruction. Just topple that building over there, it’ll be fun.

Hmm…I’m not so sure about that brother. These beings were peaceful before we came to their planet…and their attitude changed so rapidly upon our arrival. Truly fascinating. You go on ahead with your fun brother, you seem to be enjoying yourself today,” said a similar voice.

Curses, you and your endless database of worlds we’ve destroyed. Who will want to know about a race that no longer exists?” said a voice with an annoyed tone.

It’s for my own personal interest brother. Having knowledge that belongs to no other is something I take pride in. I’m not sure why it fascinates me, it just…..ARGH!!! That blasted missile hit me right in the gills. Ugh…” said the other voice becoming a bit angry.

You see brother; they don’t want to learn about us, they just want to be rid of us forever. Why should you take the time to learn about them? They are truly an inferior race. Join me in their destruction; let us be rid of them.

Grrr…this time brother, we are in total agreement,” said the voice as it grew a bit more sinister in his tone.

Haha! I’m glad you’ve decided to join me brother. Our power is at its best we destroy together. So, are you thinking what I’m thinking?” “Oh…exactly the same thought brother. Let these barbarians rot in blanketing darkness, let their senses be purged and their minds thrown in twain. Let them suffer in the vast eternity of nothingness. Break the seal of time and space and allow them passage to…

THE DIMENSIONAL VOID!!!

“Ahh!” said Daniel as he awoke suddenly, now looking around confused at his whereabouts. “Daniel! You’re awake,” said Rachael, “You’ve been out of it for at least 20 minutes.” Still a bit blurry eyed, Daniel moved his head to the other side, and when his vision became clear he made out the Fisherman, staring straight at him and with an extremely casual voice said, “Hey. Enjoy your nap?”

“E-Enjoy my nap?!” Daniel said as he snapped fully awake, “You tried to kill me!” Daniel then quickly got up and swung a punch toward him, but the Fisherman easily dodged his punch and watched him take a face plant into the dirt from still being exhausted. “Whoa…calm down kid, your lady friend told me all about why you’re here.” said the Fisherman, “You should really work on that short temper of yours.” Annoyed at that comment, Daniel replied, “You’re one to talk! You attacked us without even knowing who we are or what we we're here for.” Both Daniel and the Fisherman stared at each other with iron resolve while both thinking the exact same thing, “Idiot…

“Boys? BOYS?!” Rachael shouted at the top of her lungs, “We’re not getting anywhere with you two fighting. I’ve already explained the situation to Mr. Fisherman here. He knows we’re not part of Omega, and he’s agreed to meet with Professor Matthew. So just calm down, we’re all on the same side.” Turning his head away and letting out a sigh, Daniel said, “Well can we at least know your real name? I’m not sure how long I can keep calling you ‘Fisherman’.” Regaining his casual posture, he responded with, “In due time…”

Ugh…this guy ticks me off more when he’s calmed down,” Daniel said to himself, then out loud, “Hhh…whatever. Let’s just get back to the base so we can figure out what our next move against Omega will be.” However, just then, something caught the Fisherman’s eye: a slight flash of light low in the mountains near where the trio was currently camped out. “Hmm…I think it’s time to go. NOW! Get to the jeep!”

~Meanwhile~

“I have them in my sights sir, shall I take the shot?” said a trooper to his commanding officer. “Not quite yet, continue observing them. Tell me what you see.” The trooper then spoke again, “Three of them: two men and one woman. The younger of the two guys down there is definitely wearing the Diver. He’s the kid we’ve been searching for!” The officer replied, “Excellent! It’s a good thing we’re able to detect dimensional anomalies with this gear or we would be on a wild goose chase.” The young trooper then exclaimed, “Sir! I think they’ve spotted us. They’re trying to make a run for it.” “What?! They’re not escaping this time. Men! Get to the bikes and chase them down…and trooper put that sniper to good use,” said the officer, “Alright, let’s move out!”

~Back at Camp~

“Damn it! We’ve been found out. I can hear motors starting up in the distance,” said the Fisherman, “It won’t be long before they reach us.” “Who? Omega? How did they find us?” replied Daniel. “How do you think kid? Just look at your wrist. Omega knows everything there is to know about Divers, there’s a pretty good chance they have technology that can track them down,” explained the Fisherman, “Let’s just get a move on before they get too much of a head start on us.”

However, as soon as the group returned to the jeep, they were horrified to find that the driver had been shot in the head. Rachael winced as she turned her head away as the Fisherman frantically looked around for any nearby ground troops. “Must have been a sniper,” he said since his quick search found nothing. “Quick kid, get the driver out of there and take the wheel! You know how to drive right?” “Well, I was going to get my permanent license today if I hadn’t been teleported into another dimension, but yeah I know how to drive,” said Daniel a bit sarcastically. “This is no time for jokes kid, just stand back for a second,” said the Fisherman as he unsheathed his sword. In a few quick swipes around the roof of the jeep, the top fell off leaving an exposed area for someone to stand up. “I have a feeling we’re going to need the extra space here in a minute. Now get moving!”

Wanting to argue with the fact that he hated being ordered around by someone who had just tried to kill him, Daniel put his differences aside for the moment and did what he asked. Rachael as well, pulled out her pistol and made sure it was loaded with enough bullets to last the upcoming fight.

Not too long afterwards, preparations were complete. Daniel hopped in the drivers seat, Rachael in the passengers seat, and the Fisherman looking ever so heroic standing up in the back. The Fisherman then said, “I’m going to need a little time, so start moving now. If they arrive before I’m done, I’m going need you to use that pistol of yours girl.” Both Daniel and Rachael nodded in agreement and he hit the gas pedal and the sped off back to the base at top speed. “It’s gonna be a bu-u-umpy ride back there,” Daniel said as he tried his best to keep the vehicle under control at such high speeds.

Not even one minute into their high speed trip, Omega motorbikes could be seen gaining on them. “I was hoping I didn’t have to use this, but this is kind of a desperate situation,” the Fisherman said as he held his cloak out to one side of him. He then mumbled a few words to himself almost like chanting a spell. “This cloak has seen your actions and has chosen the weapon that will decide your fate.” At that first phrase, the inside of the Fisherman’s cloak became like water, with small ripples that formed because of the wind passing by. “With this sword as bait, allow me to bring forth another weapon of justice!” At this second phrase, the Fisherman unsheathed his sword and plunged it into the open part of his cloak. However, it didn’t just rip through the other side, instead, it disappeared into it. “Dimension Cast!” And with a few moments of fishing his hand around his cloak he smiled and said, “Gotta bite!”

During this time however, the Omega Troopers had caught up to the speeding jeep and were firing a few random shots at the vehicle, unaware of what the Fisherman had cooked up for them. Firing a few shots of her own, Rachael looked back at the Fisherman between clips to see what he was up to. “Jump in anytime! We’re getting overrun here!” she said as she loaded another clip into her gun and took aim. “Ask and you shall receive,” said the Fisherman as he finally revealed what he had ‘caught’ in his cloak. A space-age looking gatling gun that automatically screwed its tripod mount into the floor of the jeep. A bit stunned at what she saw, Rachael put her pistol back in her holster and motioned toward Daniel to just keep the jeep steady as if she knew everything was going to be taken care of now.

“Looks like me and this old cloak still think alike after all these years,” said the Fisherman as he flipped a few switches and clutched the firing controls tightly. “Going hot!” he said as he firmly pulled the trigger and let loose a flurry of what looked like concentrated balls of lightning. Each direct hit from the shot, completely consumed the bike and its passengers in a high-voltage electrified mess.

With motorbikes suddenly malfunctioning and trooper bodies smoking due to the electric shock, the trio was pretty confident that they were in the clear. However, a final motorbike with a solo rider began to accelerate toward the jeep, dodging the Fisherman’s greatest efforts to shoot him down. “This one’s different…” he said under his breath as he continued to concentrate on bringing down the lone trooper. However, it was in fact the commanding officer himself and after he got close enough to the side of the vehicle, he leapt into the air toward the jeep and yelled, “Try to shoot me now Fisherman!” Now in a battle ready stance, he stood ready to fight off their last resistance. However, a single ‘BANG!’ was heard and the officer was shot down in mid-flight. Both Daniel and the Fisherman turned toward Rachael who had just fired her gun. She then cleverly said, “Ask and you shall receive right? Hehe.” “Indeed…” said the Fisherman as he sat down in the back as they continued their journey back to the Resistance’s HQ.

~Meanwhile at the Omega Syndicate’s HQ~

“Computer…what is the status of our Observation Team? Have they made contact with the target?” said Agent R in his usual dark tone of voice. “Indeed they have sir,” replied the computer, “However, only moments after contact, the entire team was wiped out. Their life support beacons are all offline.” Then leaning his fist against his full-face mask, he let out a slight chuckle and said, “Heh, good. It was wise of me to send out that traitorous bunch in order to test the kid out. I will not have mutiny among my ranks!” Then pressing a small button on the giant console in front of him he said aloud. “Humans have proven to me time and time again to be unreliable. Computers are so much more…” Just then, a loud mechanical sound rose up within the shadows behind Agent R and illuminated a bright red light signifying that it was online. “…effective…hehe… Hahaha! HAHAHAHA!!!”
