DH, Monday 22 Nov 2004, night

I'm just sitting here at the computer, listening to my father and brother talk. It is times like these that I just want to curl up in a ball and hide. When they start having a serious conversation (politics and economics) things turn negative quickly.

I'm not saying that they get angry at each other and start to yell. What I mean is that their views of the future are so depressing that I fear for the future of the nation.

China is going to outstrip the US economically in the future. We need to find some new market because we won't be able to get back the jobs that are being outsourced. Soon we'll just be a second-class power with a large army. Bush and his cronies are bringing America to Hell in a hand-basket. (I agree with that last one.)

Sometimes I just feel like I need to optimistic to make up for all of this negativity. Bush will be gone in four years. We need another super-power and it might as well be China. We will find those new markets. We will bounce back because that is what Americans do best.

So let's just hope for a rebound. There's not much more I can do at this point.
