Have you ever noticed how the smallest things can make everything better? You're having a horrible day until someone says or does something that makes you realize that the day wasn't a total waste. It might be a small compliment, or just a common courtesy. Sometimes it's just that they noticed that something was bothering you.
I remember when a time when I was in eighth grade. I don't remember what was bothering me, but I do remember what made me feel better. My history teacher, Mrs. Furano, came over to my desk and asked me if everything was alright. She was worried about me because I hadn't been smiling as much lately. When someone notices things like that you can't help but feel better.
Today, I was feeling horrible. I was exhausted and I still had that drugged feeling that nighttime cold medicine leaves you with. I was starting to feel better by the end of the day, but I was still a little under the weather. When I got home I learned exactly how little it takes to cheer me up. Izumi brought home a box of fund-raising candy with three of my favorite types in it. After a Twix I was feeling a lot better.
So now I'm watching soaps, and relaxing at the computer. Life isn't doing so bad. I don't have much homework and I only have a half-day of school left in the week.
Thank God for serotonin.
