• I touched the grass as the wind blew my hair in all directions and looked up to see the sky filled with ominous clouds ready to flood the fields of my new home and first farm. I thought and thought of the many problems that I would have with my step mother. Sighing, I remembered back to when Papa was alive. His sincere smile and hopeful laugh made me glow and every way. The glow now was dark and lonely. Breaking the silence was my step mom, Linny.
"Mia! Stop sitting there and bring your stuff to your room." As I stood up, I could make out a human object in the forest right past Linny's black truck. The object was small and and had eyes that glowed like a full moon. It swayed in a teasing motion, almost floating. As grey fog approached the object it disappeared, leaving no trace of any life there. I shook my head in disbelief, shivers going down my spine. What ever that was, it was no human.
"Lenny," I said as I approached her,"did anyone live here before us?" Lenny nodded looking straight into my eyes. "This is a very nice place and we should be thankful we have it." She looked away and mumbled a few words before shooing me away. I jumped in the truck and grabbed my purple suitcase. I dragged my suitcase out of the truck and into the house. When I entered my room, it was filled with an old mattress and a big bookshelf with what looked like hundreds or thousands of books. I threw my suitcase on my mattress and sat on the couch next to the bookcase. Next door to my room was my 6 year old step sister Holly.
"Mum, Mia!"she screamed. I ran to her room and on the floor next to her was a snake as long as the bed. It hissed and turned when it saw me. Right behind me was Lenny. Lenny screamed as loud Mia did when she saw it. Outside her window was a boy walking up to our house. I ran out of the house to him and told what was happening. We ran inside and he ran into Mia's room with no fear showing. The man was short and looked about 15, the same age as Mia. Lenny shivered as the man gently picked up the long snake. "This girl won't hurt a fly ladies." he said. Lenny ran to Holly and hugged her tightly. As I glanced at the boy. He looked at me with his green eyes and smiled. "Would you like to keep her?" I looked at Lenny and with out a second for me to say yes, Lenny said no.
"I'll take her to my place." The boy said, walking out of the room. He stopped at the door and looked at me."My names Trent, I'm your neighbor down over there." He pointed to a house about half a mile away. I nodded and said," I'm Mia and this is Lenny and Holly."
He shooks hands with us and told us his number incase of another snake issue. "I better get going now." He nodded to us and left. While Lenny and Holly went inside, I stood there not knowing what to think of him. He was handsome and strong, but his touch made me feel...unusual. He was so confindent and brave. I must see him again! "Tomorrow," I whispered to myself. "I will see him tomorrow. He must know many secrets about this strange land that I need to know. I just must!"
