• Chapter 2:
    The Funeral

"May she always rest in such peace...." Said Jessica's mother kneeling over Marie's coffin that was awaiting to be buried. She sprinkled rose petals over the glossy wood then put her hands together in prayer, tears rolling down her cheeks from the loss. She stood up and backed away from the grave to Jessica, who was crying through her red bangs. The coffin was slowly lowered into the grave and reletives threw flower petals in as it went. Jessica sobbed and waved goodbye as the last hint of wood disappeared into the hole. Two men started to shovel dirt over the coffin then packed when they were done. The tombstone read "Marie Luicel Johnson 2004-2009". Everyone said their goodbyes and started walking down the hill to their cars, sniffing and sobbing. The day was gloomy and overcast, fitting for a funeral, and as Jessica and her mother drove home, it began to rain as if the sky was sobbing too. Back at home the two looked at photo albums of Marie from the past, when Marie and her father were still alive. Jessica and Marie's father had died in a car crash a year ago, and it was worked out that Marie would be buried next to her father, so she could always be close to him like she wanted when she was alive. "Mom," said Jessica while they were sitting looking at an album "Do you think Dad and Marie are happy together, y'know, up there?" "I'm sure they are..." said Mom, a tear rolling down her cheek onto the album. Jessica couldn't get to sleep that night, she could only think about Marie, her pretty hazel eyes that always looked up at her, and her orange curls that where so much lighter than her red ones, and her baby blue blanket she carried with her always, she had since she was baby and it never left her sight since. Jessica turned to the opened door of her room, outside was her mother's study, or orignally, her father's study. She thought she saw a flash of baby blue through the hall as she looked out to the study.
