    Chapter 2

Grent pushed ahead, trying to act strong. Mariah was falling behind, busy watching their backs. Grent was somewhat sad. Any other time, he would have been happy beyond measure. He was walking through a forest in spring with the only girl he'd ever cared about. Doesn't change the fact that if we're caught, we'll be killed. This sucks. Mariah jogged to reach Grent, and smiled at him. "Dont worry. We should be at Malindel in a few days." Grent sighed. He would much rather be at a town not being monitered by the bounty hunters, but Mariah wanted to go there, and he would follow.
Mariah poked him in the shoulder. "Stop that. We'll get there in no time. And before you know it, we'll be able to chuck fireballs so huge that the bounty hunters wont come near us for all of the gold in the world." Grent grinned, thinking of a huge fireball chasing the scarred man.
His smile went away, hearing something far in the distance behind them. Mariah must have heard it too, turning around. Grent grabbed Mariahs shoulder, pulling her into the woods with him. Mariah grabbed his hand, and Grent looked back at her, tears streaming down her face. Oh god.. She's holding my hand and crying, so I shouldn't feel so happy that shes holding my hand, but... She's holding my hand! Grent could have smiled, if he wasn't so afraid of the scar-faced man.
The kept on into the woods for hours, not stopping except for once to drink at stream. Grent was getting worried. "Mariah, we need to make a stand. Or at least find somewhere to hide." Mariah shook her head when she heard Grents second idea. "No, he'll be expecting us to hide. When the trail goes cold, he'll come back with his wolf and use it to smell us out. We DO need to make a stand, though." She started pulling a rope out of her pack, more of a purse, but still large and strong enough to hold rope and a few other items. She tied a knot using one end of the rope, creating a makeshift loop trap. "See, as soon as he steps inside, we'll pull the rope, flipping his dog into that rivelet." She threw the rope up to a strong branch, trying to position it so it could be used as leverage. "Perfect! And now, we wait..."
