Crow's Beauty
The cool breeze of the afternoon brushed over Crow's feathers as he glided through the air. He beat his wings gently, his eyes scanning the cemetery grounds for any sign of that beautiful life. He chuckled at the thought. "Life in the cemetery," he laughed as he cawed out his claws stretched out his claws to perch himself on one of the graves. He sighed softly to himself, his eyes glazed over with a melancholy look.
"Where has she gone?" he whispered to himself, leaning back against the high cross grave and giving his eyes to the everlasting gray sky. Crow didn't quite understand why he, of all the others in the Council of Life, had to inhabit such a dead place. Also, he never understood why the ones in the Council had two forms instead of one, like most animals.
It was true. Crow had a second, human form that was obtained by being chosen for the Council of Life. All creatures in the Council of Life had two forms. But even if he could they could be human, they still wouldn't be seen by human eyes. They would still be seen as their true selves. Animals.
Crow sighed and spread his wings. His feathers dispersed as arms sprouted from them. He stretched his neck up, his feathery head growing into a human one. The rest of his body slowly reshaped along with him. Ebony hair fell in front of golden pools of life. Pale skin draped with a long, open charcoal shirt, revealing his smooth chest. And long legs hugged by tight black cloth, his torn up feet peeking out from the hem.
He ran a cold hand through his ebony hair. Suddenly, he heard another voice echoing through the graveyard. A sweet sounding voice. A spark of hope lit inside of his heart. He dashed through the cemetery towards the delightful sound of another's voice. A smile spread across his face as he saw her. The beauty that had graced this dreaded place oh so many times before.
He slowed to a halt behind the angel statue she sat beside. He peered around the large angel to see her. Her light brown hair stopping just above the shoulders, tucked behind her pink ears. She had bright blue eyes that shimmered like a pool of glistening water. She wore a black jacket with long sleeves that past her finger tips. Hugging her legs were jeans that widened at the feet where strange looking shoes were at.
"She's so beautiful," he sighed softly. He watched as she read what humans called "a book." He watched her eyes dart across the page. A thought entered his head for a moment, but he shook that thought out. He didn't want to think about depressing thoughts.
"You know I can see you, right?" Crow looked down at her. She was looking at him. Right at him!
"Can she see me?" he asked out loud. The young woman giggled and stood up, brushing herself off.
"Of course I can see you silly," she said placing her invisible hands on her hips. Crow's eyes went wide. He fell backwards off the angelic statue and onto the ground, a wave of surprise pillowing the shock. The young woman knelt beside him and smiled at him. "You okay?"
Crow opened his eyes to see the beauty's face an inch from his. He nodded sheepishly and sat up, leaning his weight on his elbows. The girl stretched out her hand for him to take. He looked at it and hesitantly accepted it as she pulled him up from the cold ground.
"My name is Cora. What's yours?" she asked. Crow looked at her incredulously.
"My name is Crow." Cora giggled a bit and smiled.
"What a funny name. But I like it," she said, stepping closer to him. He kept staring at her with wide and curious eyes. Her smile was warm, like her eyes were. For once, a feeling of hope sparked inside of his heart, but the flame grew. Crow smiled.
A true smile for his beauty.
