• Dave picked up the remote and turned up the volume on the TV.
News reporter: "Breaking news today as a group of young boys have mysteriously disappeared while playing near the Georgian Crest, a small creek at the foot of Blood Mountain." Dave turned off the TV. Dave read on wikipedia the other day that Blood Mountain was not too far from his house and it was one of the largest mountains in Georgia. A legendary treasure is rumored to rest upon the mountain top. The Iron Tusk, an old sword used during the civil war. A sword that old could easily be worth a million dollars. The phone rang and Dave picked it up.
    "Hello, said Dave."
    "Hey Dave, its me, Jason."
    "Oh hey dude, whats up?"
"You here the news on TV?"
"Yea dude some kids are missing."
"I think I know what happened."
    "...Why? were you there?"
"No, but. ...Ever heard of The Mastodon?"
    "The What?"
"The Mastodon. Its a legendary creature. It lives on Blood Mountain and it guards the Iron Tusk."
    "Dude, seriously?"
    "What?"
    "You believe in that crap?"
"Yea, its real dude. I saw him."
"No you didn't, its fake god damn it!"
"No its not Dave. I saw him, I saw the Mastodon."
    "Jason."
    "Yea?"
    "Are you high?"
    "No, dude."
    "Are you drunk?"
"Not at the moment, no. Why?"
    "Because your making no sense."
"Dude, How does this make no sense?"
"So, your telling me that this thing is real and you've seen it?"
    "Yep."
"Alright dude i'm too busy to talk about this with you right now."
"OK dude, talk to ya later."
    "Peace man."
Dave hung up the phone. He wasn't really busy, he just didn't want to talk about the Mastodon.
That night when Dave fell asleep, he dreamed of Blood Mountain and the kids that went missing. He dreamed of the Iron Tusk and the Mastodon. Just then he woke up to some loud barking. It was his dog, Troy. Dave jumped out of bed and looked out the window. A big dark creature was running away. He noticed the window was smashed and a rock was lying on the floor. Dave went outside to look around. Nobody was around. The creature he saw earlier was gone, but it left some footsteps. They were huge footsteps and disappeared after a couple of feet.
"What the hell... I'm too tired. I'll deal with this in the morning."
Dave went back inside and tried to fall back asleep. All he could think about was what Jason told him earlier. Then he noticed Troy was gone.
