One of Them - Chapter 1.2
-
She made her way over to a stack of crates, and climbed atop them. Steadying herself, she grabbed onto the roof of the bakery and hoisted herself up. Carefully she balanced over to the main market's wall, and strode along it, hoping to scope out something to do.
Nothing came into her view as interesting. She kept a steady, pace until she got to the first corner stone in the octagonal market's walls. Deciding not to waste her breath any further, she sat herself atop the gargoyle statue that spewed water into a fountain below.
Mira stared into the blue sky and watched clouds pass by. It was days like these she wished there was something more to her life. An excitement, maybe a purpose. She was growing evermore tired with each passing day living at the 7-111 headquarters with having nothing better to do than mindless hobbies and running errands.
Someday I'm going to get out of here. She promised herself, as she had many times before. I'll see all those places Travis talks about in his stories. I'll make my own story to tell.
A breeze tussled her mahogany hair around her, as if to reassure her one day her dreams would be a reality. Sadly she would have to return to her disappointing reality soon.
Better go back to get the bread. She said to herself. Mira wasn't quite sure how much time had passed while she was day dreaming.
She pushed herself off of the statue and began to make her way back. Mira looked down at her feet to make sure she wouldn't fall, she couldn't help but to notice how high up she was. A good seven feet in the air. Travis had told her many times that the market was old, at least one hundred years, and the walls weren't stable enough to gallivant around on.
Mira was small though. Less than five foot four and one hundred pounds. The walls had never crumbled beneath her before.
Just as those thoughts passed her mind, a chunk of the wall beneath her fell to the ground. Mira tried to steady herself or grab onto something, but nothing was going to stop her from tumbling to the concrete below. She closed her eyes as she fell into the open air.
Then, instead of feeling bone shattering impact, she felt a strong pair of arms around her.
