• Rachel sat at her lunch table where she always sat. As usual, she was by herself. She closed the book she was reading and put it back in her bag, not sure what to do now. She looked around at the students sitting at their tables, talking to their friends and sighed. She was never accepted at this school, no matter how hard she tried.
Then Derek walked into the cafeteria. Rachel looked up at him and smiled, even though he wasn’t looking at her. She had always had a crush on him, but he never noticed her. Even after she introduced herself, he just saw her as a nothing.
She sighed at him one more time then turned away. She reached into her bag to grab out her book again but pulled out something else. It was a letter that she received that morning. She didn’t open it when she got it because she was late for school. She noticed the little purple heart on the bottom corner and frowned. Who could this be from? She opened it and slid the letter out and let the envelope fall into her lap. Her eyes widened as she read it.

    Dear Rachel,

Hey, it’s Kelly. I know we never spoke much, well at all really. But I just wanted to let you know something. I’m really sorry about leaving you out. Excluding you in everything. You were so nice to me and I just took you for granted by letting you carry my books and do my homework. I regret it and, once again, I’m sorry. But I saw the way you kept looking at Derek. And they way your eyes would brighten when I spoke about him. I never mentioned this to Derek, I figured it was you’re job to do that.
Don’t put it off too long, and don’t bring my death into account. Just make yourself noticed. I thought I would write this letter to let you know how to get him to notice you. It’s not hard really.

Just when Rachel was starting to get into the letter, the bell rang and she felt sad. As she closed the letter and slipped it back into the envelope and said I silent prayer to Kelly. Rachel always knew that she was a nice girl.

Jason smiled at his fans one last time as he walked off the stage.
“Brilliant performance, Jason. Now, let’s talk about your next signing...”
Jason let his manager ramble on while he continued to pace through the heap of backstage people congratulating him on his performance. Once at his dressing room door he paused and turned to his mother.
“Tory, I would love it if I could have some privacy in my own dressing room.”
She looked at him then at the door then back at him again.
“Oh honey, there isn’t anything you can show me that I haven’t seen before.”
He stared at her as she made that I’m-totally-serious-face at him. He jerked his head back and rolled his eyes.
“Well, if you want we can...”
But Jason had already closed the door on her.
He sighed and walked over to his mobile phone, which was in front of his mirror. It said that he had one voice message. He dialled the number for is message centre and put the phone up to his ear.
Jason... it’s Sean. I know I haven’t spoken to you in awhile, but I’m your brother and I need you right now. It’s Kelly... she’s dead. I’m going to go to her funeral. I don’t know when it is but I’m on my way there now. If you had any feelings at all, you would do the same.
And then he hung up. Just like that. Jason stared at the wall for a moment, then walked out of his dressing room to tell his manager where his next performance is going to be.
