My eyes shot open so fast that my head ached for a minute, my breathing came in short pants (painful ones at that.), and a chilled sweat was planted firmly on my face. I pulled Kioko, my over sized stuffed bunny, and smashed her against my chest trying to calm my shivers which were so fierce they shook my entire bed.
Tears stung at my eyes as I remembered that day, the day my mother died before my eyes, the day I turned thirteen her life ended, and my dad was found five miles away with a bullet in his temple. Both hearts gone silent.
I heard my door slowly crack open, and the faint sound of steps and someone approached my bed. Britt’s hand softly brushed my face. “Hey,” she whispered kneeling in-front of me, “I heard you scream, is it the dream about mom again?” her voice was thick with concern and worry.
I tried to answer but instead sobs rushed out instead and I squished Kioko closer to me. The tears I’ve been fighting finally started to fall.
“Hey now!” Britt said wiping my tears, “It’s going to be fine.” She smiled even though I knew it was fake.
“Why? Why was it our family that had to get destroyed? Its not fair!” I gushed in one big sob.
“I know honey, I know.” She said soothingly. I could hear in her voice, when it cracked at the end, that she was on the edge of crying
The moments past in Simi-silence, only my quiet sobs and Britt’s attempt not to cry could be heard. Soon my eyelids started getting heavier till I couldn't keep them open anymore. I let out a loud sleepy sigh as my mind started to get hazy and I slowly entered into an unconscious, but yet somehow not relaxing, state.
I just barely heard Britt say, “Sleep tight Kid-oh” then I gone.
“Rose...” something whispered in my ear, “Come on Rose you’re going to be late!” who is that? How do they know my name? My eyelids lit up, someone or something had turned on a light that wasn't there a minute ago. A hand then shook me, making my head jerk back and forth like a bobble head. “Come on Kiddo! School buses don't wait forever!”
My eyelids fluttered then opened, revealing the blinding ceiling light filling my vision with little black dots and Britt’s face as she leaned over me. My head ached, I rolled on my back and groaned.
“Please tell me its not Monday.” I sighed.
Britt threw something on my chest, I was to tired to see what it was. “I would but if I did I would be lying.”
“Joy.” I slid off my bed and examined the clothes Britt had picked out for me slid to the floor.
It mostly consisted of black...black jean jacket (cute), black belt with a heart buckle (decent) and... A black mini skirt...( was this a sign she wanted me goth?) but then something bright red caught my eye. I slowly pulled a bright fiery red tank top out of the happy-color-lacking pile of clothes... Britt wanted me to where this? This!
I sighed and just put the clothes on, not wanting to waste the energy on picking out another outfit. I fumed through my hair, wondering if it would look better up or down. I watched myself in the mirror, black circles under my eyes, my friends would defiantly notice. I glanced down at the unopened concealer that lay on my dresser. I hated makeup with a strong passion, but it would help cover up the under-circles and save me an interrogation.
It must be hard huh? Living this spoiled life but not able to have the one thing you want most.
A cold shiver tickled down my spin....who said that?!
I’m not a who, I’m more of a what.
“Who- I mean what are you?” I mentally sighed when my voice came out weak and trembling.
Me? You really have to ask? If we share the same conscious how can you not know who I am?
I looked back up at myself in the mirror, covering my mouth to try to stop myself from screaming.
Do you know who I am now? I froze when my reflection talked. Her red eyes staring at me, those red thirsty eyes, the ones my mother had in my dream, but this time, this time the red eyes are mine... The smile on her face grew, revealing the same hungry fangs, my dream seemed to be transforming into reality before my eyes.
Thats right Rosalie, I am you, and you are me.
I shook my head, NO! Thats not me, its not, its a stranger ... or something! But it cant be me!
My legs reacted faster than my mind, they ran, ran out of the room, ran as far away from that mirror. I practically jumped down the entire staircase.
“Rose? Rose, what the-” I didn’t stay to listen to what she was saying, I really didn't care.
You cant run from me Rosalie, no matter where you go I have to follow.
