Into the storm
I sat in my room, the storm raging outside. It had been raining and thundering for days on end. No one ad any idea when it would end. There had been innumerable casualties due to fires and floods. My house had been unaffected. It was the only safe place in the entire state. I looked out my window into the unending blackness of night, only interrupted by the occasional lightning strike.
I looked out at the playground across from my house. I saw a figure sitting on a swing, unmoved by the raging storm. I wasn't sure why but I had the sudden urge to run out to them. I threw on my coat and shoes running out the door. As I came closer to the figure I could mate it out more easily. It was a girl, small, young, and unmoved by anything happening overhead. I came up slowly behind. Cautiously and slowly I tapped her the shoulder.
"Little girl? Little girl what are you doing out here in this storm?" I asked worriedly. She turned to face me. Her face was gruesome and disgusting. It was half black, as though it had been struck by lightning. I soon realized it had. She didn't speak. Her small blue dress was ripped in some places and she was covered in dirt and mud. I took a step back. She looked up at my face, her small eyes completely black.
I took another step back, and she took another step forward. She reached out and grabbed my arm. Her hand was ice cold, and her skin felt sticky and rough. I ripped my arm away, stepping back again. I began to turn. She looked almost angry. I started to run, and she did the same, chasing my to my house. I ripped the door open and slammed it. I heard a sickening crack when it close.
I had closed it on her arm. Her arm moved trying to grab the door handle to open the door. I moved the couch against the door running into the office room and shutting the door. I turned off the lights and locked the door. The only light came from lightning every once and a while. I knew I was just putting off her getting in and finding me/ I didn't know what she would do when she did, but I didn't want to find out.
