• Sport's Essay
U.S. swimmer/martial artist takes gold at 2012 Olympics. Swimming and
karate as for being hobbies not sports, but in this essay I will try
to change your mind. Swimming, is it a serious sport or summer social
event? Karate, is it intense self-defense or ancient war techniques.
And lastly I will talk about both and what it takes to be semi-good at
    each of these sports.
Swimming, is it a serious sport or summer social event? Well, look at
Phelps he is one of the world's best swimmers. If you watched the
summer Olympics you would have seen that Phelps won eight gold metals.
There are also the Olympic swim teams. Even though a lot of people
underestimate the sport, obviously a handful of other countries don't.
Now from the sport to the style, there are four very complicated
strokes. There is freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and lastly
butterfly stroke. Freestyle which is the easiest yet still difficult
is very hard to get it to become perfect.
Now let's talk martial arts, intense self-defense or ancient war
techniques. Sam K., Ben W., Raymie L., these three people are some of
the most amazing young martial artists in America. The people I listed
have been in the martial arts for several years and could take on and
beat many black belts that I know. And you see Taekwondo in the
Olympics too. They don't throw many hand techniques, but it is still
cool to watch. In Tang Soo Do (my karate) there is at least fifteen
basic techniques, add jumps, spins, hops, and steps and suddenly you
    have a lot more techniques.
In my last paragraph I will talk about me, my schedules, and what it
has to take in the martial arts and swimming. I am very dedicated to
both these sports. The three I mentioned earlier in my karate
paragraph are like my best friends. So I too can kick some black belts
butts. My schedule is packed soooo tight. Normally Monday-Friday I am
busy until five o'clock, at swim team practice or practicing karate.
Both swim and karate take strength, in all its forms. In swim you use
a lot of upper body strength, lung power, oh and a decent amount of
leg muscle. In the martial arts we use a lot of leg muscle, endurance,
and some but not a lot of arm muscle. In both though it takes lots of
concentration, determination, and a little bit of luck.
So with that I hope you understand my point. If you weren't really
paying attention my point was that Swim and Karate are both sports. I
personally believe this because I am on swim team and have been in the
martial arts for several years. Therefore I think Swim and Karate are
sports. Hope you enjoyed it and have been turned by the fact that
    these are sports.
