Just a place for me to give off my rants, and for you all to listen.
Okay, so recently, I just heard that Xbox 360 is coming out with a downloadable timer so parents can set a time limit to how long their kids can play games. Now, while this is all good and morally-correct, I have quite a few problems with this that I just want to address.

First of all, why buy a timer that shuts down the system entirely? Not only will it screw up the kid's game if they're trying to save, but it could shut down before the kid could even save at all. Don't these people know how incredibly hard it is to play some RPGs, or how long a lot of those cutscenes are, and how far apart some save points could be? I don't like this for the fact that it could waste a LOT of time on the kid's part.

Second, why not set a different timer, like a kitchen timer, as a REMINDER rather than a rule. That way, the kid can hear it and know he'd better save at the next point, but it won't completely fsck up his game if he can't reach the save point in time for the thing to go off. Two birds with one stone, if you ask me.

Third, why the hell would you limit fun? What if your kid's having a crappy day, and just wants to play games? What if he has no homework and it's raining outside? Why limit his fun? Video games themselves aren't nearly as bad as parents think. If people just educated their kids and taught them right from wrong, games wouldn't have such a cruddy reputation with parents. I understand TOO much gaming is bad, but come on. A timer to shut down the entire system? I know I'd start hating my parents if I had to continually play one part of a game over and over because the timer went off before I could even save.

Fourth, the kid should have limits, I agree, but I think the parents should talk to the kid about a time limit and reach an agreement rather than use something that would make the kid want to throw his system out in two days. And hasn't MicroSoft thought of the possibility of the kid disabling the timer by finding/using his parent's password, if one's required? I think the timer is a really unnecessary feature in the 360, but that's my opinion. If anyone has anything to add, please feel free, but don't flame. After all, this is a rant. I'm supposed to go totally nuts on something I hate.

razz That, kiddies, was my rant for the time. See you later.

I'm surprised my brother hasn't complained about this. It definitely is unnecessary and unfair. Brings up some memories... anywho...

When you said video games aren't as bad as parents and adults think, that reminded me of how often video games get blamed for people becoming violent. I don't see video game obsessed kids starting wars or anything. What did they blame violence on before video games? Kids have always been like this. If there's any increase in misbehaving and such it's the parents fault for not teaching the children better. But kids will always fight, it's their nature. No one will ever agree with anyone else all the time.
