Beyond the Heart

Dominic opened his eyes to the vast and endless landscape that lay before him. The unison of air and water gave off a sunder feeling of life and death. Above him, the skies encircled him with spiraling clouds of pure white. He stood in the eye of the silent storm that hung overhead. Below him, the vast ocean of clear water holds no waves. Luscious algae covered the ridges that resided on the bottom of the ocean. No words could describe the power that the sight held for Dominic.

His heart told him that this is where he wants to be. This obliviously confused the young man. Why would his heart want to be in nowhere? This is clearly a place of nothingness, a place where time held no grasp. Is the heart really this misleading?

The oath of sustained silence the world has pledged was broke by the faint whisper of wind. Dominic gazed down at the water, which had now started moving. His eyes moved upward to a small spot in the water that was pushing up and down, causing the tiny waves in the water. Over time, the small spot grew large and become more violent. The young man found it hard to stand on the water. In an instant, a huge gust of wind pounded against the water, knocking him off his feet.

Dominic found to his surprise that his back did not touch the water, but instead fell upon a thin layer of calming wind. The circulating wind provided shelter from the cold waters that he was standing on. Dominic placed his right hand on the water to lift himself up, but his hand was greeted by the same prevailing wind. He slowly pushed himself up, being able to see what lie in front of him.

A slim and stern figure in a long, black cloak stood before him. His head is lowered, his face is unseen. The water had stopped pulsating, so both Dominic and the enigmatic man stood still on the water. My heart tells me I know this man, but I do not know his name. My heart tells me many things, things I find deceiving. Dominic’s thoughts were interrupted by the man’s words.

“Dominic.” His words seem to transcend his being. The words that escape the man’s mouth echo from nowhere. “Where does your heart lie?”

Where does your heart lie? What the hell is this guy talking about? I mean, what else can get weird here? Dominic’s thoughts were perfectly normal for anyone, too bad nothing was normal here.

“This is one weird dream.” Dominic stated.

“Oh, you think this is a dream?” The man raises his head only a fraction to see Dominic‘s reaction to his words. . These words sound humorous to Dominic. A small, but proud smirk arises on his face. The enigmatic man sighs, disappointed in Dominic’s response. The man stays still, his hands reached out over the water. His head rises upward, but remains concealed by a constant shadow. Four continuous pillars of flowing wind appear around him.

“Maybe this is beyond your heart.”
