Beyond The Heart

I open my eyes to the endless landscape of air and ocean. Below me is a depthless ocean of the clearest water. I can see the ridges that populate the lowermost reaches of the ocean floor. Above me hangs a grand spiral of white clouds that encircle my position. My heart tells me that here is where I should be, the only problem with that is, I have no clue where here is. Does my heart wish to be here, in the middle of nowhere?

My scattered thoughts are interrupted by the soft sound of air. I look a few feet in front of me, the water at that spot is swirling around. As the moments pass the movement of the water becomes more violent. I find it harder to stand as the small waves shake the water I stand on.

Without warning a rapid gale hits the area, knocking me off my feet fast. My back doesn’t touch the water, as a thin layer of wind keeps me up. I feel the wind constantly moving in a circle on my back. I push myself up with my right hand, and like the air on my back, a gust of wind keeps my hand from touching the water.

Somehow I cannot register the actuality that is the wind. This dream is weird, but I am able to realize that it is a dream. But things are wrong in this one, I can feel the wind perfectly. I’ve had this dream before, but the gale has never come until now.

I raise my head to look in front of me. I find out that I am not longer alone. A slime figure in a black cloak proudly stands before me. I cannot see his face, for the hood is up and closed. My heart is telling me I know him. My heart tells me many things, things I find to be deceiving.

“Dominic.” His words seem to transcend his form. The words that escape his mouth echo to nowhere. “Where does your heart lie?”

Where does your heart lie? What the hell is this guy talking about? I open my eyes to find myself in some unimaginable place, standing on open water, having a guy in a black cloak asking me where my heart lies. I mean, what else can get weird here?

“You think this is not real?” He asks me. This is kind of funny actually. I form a small smirk on my face. I can tell he’s disappointed in that. I feel like he’s forming his own smirk on his face. “I guess this is beyond you heart.”

He lifts his head up more, but I still cannot see his face. He slowly raises his hand in the air. I cannot see his skin, his hand is covered in a black glove. He snaps his fingers and the sound carries on endlessly. I can hear a large rumbling sound. The man in black points down, I can see stone rising up near the ridges. The stone rises faster and faster. The sound and the rumbling grows, I am concerned.

I jump a little once the stone levels with us. I look around to see buildings surrounding the area. This place looks familiar, maybe too familiar. Water drips off the previously submerged buildings.

“What is this?” I ask, hoping to get an answer from the man. He looks around, scanning the area.

“Looks like your city right? You surprised?”

“Cant say I am.”

“Well let me make you surprised.”

I don’t know what he means by that. Well, I don’t know much of what’s going on as it is. He steps off the small stone ledge he was standing on and begins to walk towards me. He stops a few feet of me, once again raising his fingers to snap. He snaps, that sound once again echoes. This time no stone, only a gust of wind that encircles him. ;The wind focuses on four spots around him, forming a slim pole shape. I can slowly see what they are becoming. In a flash four elongated lances appear, their color is of the purest white I have ever seen. The lances hover in the air, being supported by the constant flow of air that encloses him.

He dashes at me with freighting speed with his lances pointing straight at me. I’m not sure I can even blink before he reaches me. I throw myself out of the way of his lances, but one scraps my arm. I hit the stone street hard, I can feel how cold it is. I quickly pick myself up and begin running away from him. I turn my head to see him not chasing me, he only lowers his head. I continue running until I hide behind a familiar building, I see a long alleyway. I know that it‘s easy to be caught in a dead end alleyway, but it seems like the best choice right now. I lean against the wall and start panting. My body slowly slides to the stone ground. I hold the cut on my left arm tightly, I can feel the blood slowly crawls down my arm. The pain is sundering compared to the fear that grips me now. I am convinced that this is no longer a dream.

I want to run away, but my legs are frozen still. My mind is wrapped around the thought of death. I start to think of my. I fear losing it, even just the thought encases me with distress. Am I really this weak? Do I really deserve to live like this? I stand up with a intense conviction. If I die, then I will die standing tall. My arm hurts even more now that the fear is gone. I look down to notice that the wound that I thought was minimal was actually deeper than I thought. Honestly, I’m surprised my left are is still attached.

I wonder when the hooded man is. He did not follow me, is he waiting for me? I wonder what his motive is. I slowly make my way into the corner of the building. I look at the exact spot where he was standing, but he is gone. I hear a small, sunder gush of wind. I feel a hand grasp my shoulder.

“I sure hope I doesn’t find you here.” The man says, not really directing it at me. Ok, now’s he’s messing with me, jerk. He says it in such a way I almost forget he’s trying to kill me, almost. I jump away from him, hoping to get some distance with him. This time I wasn’t going to run, not that I could run. I can’t really fight him either. He has weapons, I don’t.

“Who are you?” I said to him, hoping he will talk rather than kill me.

He took a step foreword with his lances still beside him. He reached for his hood and pulled it off. I could see his face, but I don’t know his name still. I don’t remember his name. He is several years older than, but his face shines with youthfulness.
